Schopenhauer's definition of genius: A person who has more intellect than will (as opposed to the common type who has more will than intellect) allowing for objectivity of mind, a vision of things beyond individual interest which can extend even to their detriment.

Is'nt the use of intelect an act of will? Maybe there is an assumption on the part of Schopenhauer that willpower is necesarily selfish? I think it can be used to both expand or contrict the sense of self and hence effect ones thoughts as impartial or myopic. What do you think?

Yes, the USE of the intellect is an act of will but I believe the intellect or more definitionally the essence of consciousness is unconscious and devoid of will. Schopenhauer did believe that the will was necessarily selfish and that its destruction was the ultimate boon. The excercise of the intellect through will has the capacity to see things subjectively and objectively yes but again I believe the essence of the intellect trancends will.

I guess this proves that even actors think every once in a while.
