  • just great words, a real heartbreaker...great job on this <3

  • Nicely done. I know this story too well ;) ~ Raz

  • Really nice story David, it's very sad, I'm suprised it didn't come of your own experiences. Nice rhyming too, they don't look too forced :)

    Cute kitty! :) hehe

  • bob dylan is back...and the writing is good as well...is this inspired by a real experience? like the twang...

  • Thanks...nope. Thank goodness, I've never had a woman slice my heart to shreds like that....this was like a movie I watched happen in my mind.

Thanks for the "twang" comment...comes naturally!

  • a southerner?

  • Yup

  • this yankee is a fan!

  • At 2:35, your cat wakes up like 'what have I been missing?' lol

  • I know! Felicia Renee is very unimpressed with my singer/songwriterness! hahaha

  • Very nice, David! 5 stars for you! Thank you for all of the heartfelt messages and comments. They really mean a lot. You're a really special Youtube pal!

  • Thanks. I so believe in your material. You write and sing so well.

  • Mate, you get better and better everytime.

  • Thank you so much! Sounds like a Robison tune, doesn't it? This song is one of "Angry's" kids....Thanks for the comp on it!

  • Well written song, need to shop these ideas around you do!

    Peace

    Julia

  • David, I think I listened to this but for some reason I didn't comment. Probably because I was blown away! This is an amazing song. One of your best. There are so many songs written about women who have been wronged. It's nice to see things from a man's perspective!

  • I think this is one of your best efforts David. Thanks for sending it to me. I might have taken a while getting to it otherwise.

  • What I tried to do was take the time and tone the vocals so that the song sinks in slowly and grabs the listener that way.

This is an emotional song. He's watching the death of a dream and he can't bring himself to walk out of it.

You have to really put yourself in his place to make it effective, almost like an actor. That hurts, as you can see at the end of the vid.

  • David, this is such a wonderful song! Your lyrics are always so great! :) -Tiffany

  • Ahh, I see the common thread now.

  • This one's tough to sing...and to watch. It's an emotional song that can make me cry if I let it. I've lost out on a lady love or two, but never like this, not "in my face" like she's doing him...and I wish she'd just be woman enough to tell him it's over, but she

is keeping him around, just in case. That happened to a relative of mine and it was

    rough on him.

  • I think that to get such a compliment from someone I admire and respect as much as I do you...oh wow, I am just blown away!! Thank you so much....

  • such great lyrics that we can all relate to, if we have lived and loved enough in our lives!

  • I try to create situations in my songs that are "down to earth". That's what I more or less like to hear, myself.

Most or nearly all the time, though, my songs are not autobiographical. Few of the things that happen in my songs actually have happened to me. I just get ideas from what goes on around me.

Say, like, when a buddy of mine will have this great marriage and tells me about it. Next thing you know, I get a song like "What Would I Be?" lol

  • Hi David, This is an awesome song, you did a wonderful job on it. I really enjoyed listening to it. Keep up the great work, my friend. Thanks for sharing. Take care and God Bless! 5*****. Your friend, Sandra

  • I felt so blessed to be given this one. It is a very powerful song and it wrote itself. I really allowed myself to get "in character" with the song's narrarator. That was hard, watching her slowly break him like that. These kinds of songs are draining...

Look in the background and you can see my Felicia...at one point, she's yawning. Some audience you are, honey! lol

  • Life is full of so much loss, anguish, and pain===this is an excellent song, man=====keep on singing, that's what you do *****

  • Thank you for encouraging my singing...I so love to sing, Billy. (I always enjoy and appreciate your vocals, too, they're great).

What I tried to do in this was put myself in the song, so I'm really emotional in it, kinda like I'd be if she were just crushing me. For some reason, she won't be a woman and just "call it 'over'"...maybe she's gonna 'keep him on retainer', just in case. Real crummy way to do somebody, Billy...especially a good guy like the one in this song.

  • My friend if I had the appropriate resources, I be in the studio tonight with this song...This is just as good and possibly better than any of the lyrics being performed on radio stations across the country today. I'm serious brother,...it's all about the show! Mark

  • And you know what was funny about this song, Mark? It looks like it would be hard to write but the lyrics pretty much poured out...it was like watching a movie when the words came to me.

I feel so sorry for the guy in this song. He tried to do right by her, and all the thanks he got for it was to be cut to pieces.

  • I believe you hear in your heart where you want this song to go and I can hear this in your performance. I really think you've got some really good lyrics and this is a song I wouldn't mind trying my hands at. Some really good lyrics mate! Peace,.....Mark

  • Yes, and thank you for appreciating what I have been blessed with. As to the contest question, you know, I never thought about it until you suggested that. You mean it really made that much of an impression? Wow!

  • pretty good stuff. ever think of entering a song contest?

  • Excellent lyrics David ... very touching, sad. Pretty song.

  • Oh I know. Those kind of songs write themselves in me occasionally. I find that it's better for me to release them because they're just too powerful to stay inside me. They are also very draining to sing and play. For a song like this one to be sung most effectively, you have to do like an actor does and become the character a little. I really tried to put myself there where he was, watching the joy of his life stomp him in the dirt. Sadly, things like that happen.

  • Yeah, lol, that's the hazard sometimes of posting a new song: sometimes it comes across that you don't have the song together.

The song's next to last line is intentionally not sung and a little out of meter to emphasize the narrarator's pain. If you notice, I'm having to blink back tears at the end. I really felt sorry for the guy.

Thank you so much for complimenting my vocal. That surprised me.

  • Very good reply! Mark

  • At times it did seem like you dint know the lyrics, but it does not take away from your great voice. You can sing.Thank you for sharing.
