  • amazing coordination, great mix, sick ghost notes. This gets an A+

  • @PoeticJustice05 I think Travis was just intrigued by the rhythms in this song, and wanted to see what he could do with them. I don't think he was looking at trying to play in a hip-hop style. I bet he could easily emulate many different hip-hop beats, but that wasn't his goal. Once again, I think he was just focusing on the rhythms and syncopation...just for fun, or practice, or whatever.

  • you look really young in this video

  • Nice stick flick at 1:42!

  • What's the title of the track?

  • this is leaps and bounds better than the original!

  • someone who likes hiphop and djent? finally, i dont feel alone anymore

  • travis u do dipp Koool!

  • I think Travis should do an update on this video. He could totally kill it even more now then he did back then. It would be beautiful.

  • nigga who?

  • Metal version with down tuned 7 strings would be great.

  • i think you should do a re-take of playing to this song, because your playing style has definitley progressed and changed by far.

  • you've come a long way mr. orbin... hair and all..

  • Travis Orbin, not Barker.

  • I'm no rap fan,, but I can't understand for the life of me why some rap mogul hasn't offered to snatch you up with some multi-billion dollar recording/ touring deal.. Yep,, I said mulit-billion..

  • @DouglasK703 He doesn't have the right feel for Hip-Hop. He doesn't play the right way, not a lot of feel, just some technical stuff. Those Hip-Hop guys are big on feel.

  • @PoeticJustice05 you realize this was 5 years ago right?

  • @Spacecowboyy Yes, but you can gain feeling. You either have it or you don't, and even in his latest videos, he's not that kind of drummer, he's a technical guy. You either have the groove or not.

  • @PoeticJustice05 you must be kidding... if this drum cover doesn't groove, i don't really see what you want...

Orbin is probably the most talented up-and-coming drummer at the moment. For example, I don't think Royster (which is also one of my favourite drummer) will be as categorical as you about Orbin, because what he plays is really really tough and creative AND groovy.

  • @Aroun88 it doesn't groove because he approaches it through a rock/metal feel, which doesn't fit with the song. For example, using the crash symbol to drive the groove is popular in rock and metal, but NOT in hip-hop. It doesn't fit, neither do most of the grooves or fills he uses. He uses too much double bass, and it just doesn't have any feel. I listen to a lot of guys, I play drums, I know what feel sounds like when I hear, there is an intangible part to it, and he just doesn't have it.

  • @PoeticJustice05 Groove's a very subjective concept. For ex, the pattern driven with the crash is a very tasty groove for me.

Rock/Metal can groove, especially modern styles like Djent. Orbin plays this with his own style, there's no link between the non-respect of the usual hip-hop standards and the groove.

I play drums, listen to a lot of guys too, but I make the difference between ungroovy feels and a feel I don't like. You don't like Orbin's feel but he grooves

  • @Aroun88 Groove and feel go hand in hand. You can't groove without feel. Rock and Metal can groove, but they each have their own approach, as does hip-hop. A metal approach doesn't work for a hip-hop song. As far as the crash part, that's like something Travis Barker would do, it doesn't groove, it's too much high frequency for hip-hop. Hip-hop is down and dirty, the more down and dirty you are the better, meaning lots of tom and bass interplay, lots of hi-hat, lots of ghost notes.

  • dude shutup, theres no way you can chirp this vid@PoeticJustice05

  • @eyobg16 There are parts that work, but there are a lot of things that don't, at least for this style of music.

  • @Aroun88 If you want to see what I want, listen to Benny Greb play, he has out of this world feel. His grooves, his timing, his licks, even just the way he hits the drums, he is the benchmark for feel.

  • @PoeticJustice05 I know Benny Greb but my benchmark for groove is David Garibaldi.

Watch more especially "Screaming Headless Torsos", "Comfort", "On The Virg" videos of Orbin for feel, smoothness and groove.

  • 2:15-2:18 orgasm

  • @andrew12398 orb-gasm

  • You're so ridiculously talented...

  • gay z

  • I give you props bro that whats tight for sure that jiga song has a sic beat

  • dude nicee trick at 1:41 how long did it take you to do that?!

  • Comment removed

  • @drummerfreak715 lol oops read it as 1:14 instead of 1:41 :P yeah the whole thing is really really good but I especially liked 1:40 2:15-2:18 and that he copied the rapper with the double bass :P

  • You are a Machine

  • 2:51 "What."

I'll tell you what. You're awesome.

  • Sick! :D

  • no groove.. no music..

  • @shorebrak i hope that's sarcasm...artists express themselves objectively...if they were to express themselves subjectively nothing would ever change because they'd have a single preferrence...subjectivity cuts you off from other sources of inspiration, and can also make you an arrogant person when confronted with change or extreme difference...so you should always listen with a objective mind, otherwise you'd miss out on so much more...like animals as leaders and chimp spanner for instance!

  • @shorebrak and if you only like rap or hip hop i listen to plenty of that(mainly hip hop cause rap is like what modern pop is to madonna, there's no soul in it anymore) like living legends, heiroglyphics, common, DJ fresh, cypress hill, deltron, busdriver and sunspot jonz!

  • Damn!

That double bass with his voice is killin'!

Such an inspiration man. I love you dude. Such tremendous playing and musicality with everything that you approach, it's all music. Whether is Screaming Jam Funk, Pop, Hip-Hop, Metal you know how to approach it with such beautiful ideas and views. I definitely have you in mind when I transribe Jazz solos. Like the ultimate dude.

    Much Respect and Love, man.

  • you have a dent in your left arm. did you have surgery? or were they making sure you wrere human?

  • @jbold5 He has a djent in his left arm.

  • @Arnevet looool

  • @Arnevet bahahahaha nice

  • easy 1:42, Tony Royster would eat that flip fill for breakfast

  • @pngdrummerboy But tony royster has no soul

  • @Invocati you're seriously kidding right? wow

  • @pngdrummerboy Ofcourse......... i'm not

  • @Invocati he does but he dosen't show it alot of times but Thomas Pridgen that kidd is a beast so much soul drumming is his life look him up

  • Travis Orbin > Travis Barker

  • you are undoubtedly an excellent technical drummer, but for me this is too much for the song by miles....

  • If I watch anymore of your videos I'm gonna have to go buy a second remote RH-2000

  • great feel

  • its people like this that make you wanna stop tryin at life haha, how could anyone compete?? haha

  • I love this.

  • @glovester dude, drummerguy626 is a retard and probably has the ego that he's better than orbin lol

  • 2 hihat lol... nc

  • holy shit this kid tears it up, so skilled with all limbs, awesome!

  • what?? is that even him?

  • @drummerguy626 haven't seen Orbin lately, have you? :P

  • @aandwrootb33r yes i have, and they look edited too.

  • What do you mean by editted

  • @drummerguy626 how does it look edited?

  • hey whats this song called?

  • @macben17

You could try reading the info.

  • I like it, its crazy good.

  • dude playing for jay z would probably be way more profitable than periphery or SEA. But good thing you have integrity. Good job brotha!

  • Tony Royster Jr. already has that job. :P

  • Nice!

  • well u definately made this ur own

  • Love, at the beginning, where you do the hi-hat alternating syncopation. It's obvious you have fun when you play. My biggest weakness is rudimentary. L:KDSjf You've got strong rudiment control and tight wrists. Again, fantastic job especially with the poly rhythms between feet and hands and some of your backbeating and the times you utilize it. ...is that a Microsoft ZUNE?! lmao.

  • i got the same snare... it sounds like hell! by the way amazing job there ;)

  • i threw up at 2:15

  • Thats crazy!,...very good!...are you a ambidextrous person? ! if there would be 10 stars,...i would give u one,....CHEERS!

  • Are you kiding me..Jay's drummer better be on the lookout!!!! Go Boy!!

  • Jay-Z's drummer is Tony Royster Jr!! I'm not taking any sides, both Tony and Travis are amazing drummers

  • ur a machine at drums. O_O

  • Because thats wat he feels comfortable with?

  • to show skill and to be original

  • who cares how the drums are set up!!!!!!!

  • Whats so weird about his setup?

That he has a second hi-hat pair? You must not watch or see many drummers and look at their setups.

  • and here i thought i would never see the Orbinator with short hair.. WOW

  • Fuckin insane bitch! I can't help but notice the hat line though.

  • Fucking nice

  • Dude, thats some fresh shiit! Good job, brutha.

  • F U

  • wow !! F U ..those are some big letter's !!

  • Yup! FU

  • you're a fucking idiot.. mangini himself is HIGHLY impressed by this kid. let's see YOUR shit.

  • you should play around on ''I'm on a boat'' you would tear it upppp!!!

  • ur so good

  • Comment removed

  • yeah cryptopsy does blow haha

  • this shit is sick

  • hey cryp66 or whatever its called APPRECIATION OF MUSICAL TALENT fuck you dude music is music whatever it may be mother fucker has talent. lemme see you do this shit.

    lawl boring my ass

  • love the feel!!! totally happening!!!!

  • this is straight beef!!!

  • CLASS!

  • Great skills, love Orbin.

But this shit is fucking BORING. Sorry, but fuck it is.

Of course I'm not a fan of hip hop/rap or whatever this is classified as.

  • this is so sloppy compared to how solid and clean he is now.... he has come so far and he was already amazing.

  • hes not sloppy at all, thats the video quality.

  • It's not sloppy, it's just the video quality. No mics.

  • Reminds me a lot of Terry Bozzio's linear groove stuff - he's even got the Bozzio grimmace down at 3:09, just needs the 2 china stacks above and in front ! Loved the high speed Portnoy-style fill at 0:43

  • 1:41-1:43 + 4:05-4:08 great stick work

  • Sky Eats Airplane is now a better band for getting you.

  • i consider myself i decent drummer but this is a whole other level. shits amazing i wouldnt even know what to do behind that drumset its almost ambidextrous or however you spell it. nicely done damn

  • good song good drumin

  • 2:53

  • fuckin brilliant!!

his shit relly complemented the song, he wasnt just using it as a click track for some solo!!

im subscribing the fuck out of that shit!!

  • 2:12 just amazing

  • Those double hi-hats are crazy, very intuitive. Awesome cover btw.

  • :O

    whoa!

    nice stuff!!!

  • That Double Kick on the two high-hats.. That's crazy talk.. Never really seen or thought about that Before!!!!

  • Your triceps, they're mighty!! Awesome drumming, wish I was as good as you!

  • AWZM!:D

  • Look at those cut triceps!

  • Drumstix49...I want to see this video you are going to make.

  • lets see it then

  • can we see your video?

  • We're all awaiting! =)

  • have yo uever tried to play to an electronic track? its not easy at all. Travis does a way better job than ive seen most people do, and the fact that his drumming in this is extremely complex, makes it even harder. I think what we all want, is for you to make this video. I'm pretty sure you CANNOT do anything this guy does. If you can, I'd like to see it.

  • this comment is mad old but were still waiting on that vid

  • @Drumstix49 i thought i was alone..

to be fair he has gotten a shit tonne more solid in the last 4 years since this was posted. i love his drumming now and i bet if he redid this is would be 10 times better. keep it up travis!

  • drumstix have you seen his other videos? he could do grooves around you.

  • His timing is excellent, the video goes out of sync, I am willing to bet you couldn't play any of the grooves he created for Periphery, or any of his new work with SEA. Even if you could play the parts, judging by your attitude, you wouldn't have the creativity to create anything like Orbin's parts.

  • i would enjoy taking you up on those bets, give me a month until i finish my next video.

  • i agree that he is out of time sometimes, i mean often slightly before or after, metronome work dear drummers, he is good tho

  • if you're gonna bash him, why not insult something that he has problems with instead of the two things he's best at?

his timing is perfect, he keeps the hat going on every count and his fills are beautifully creative.

you electronically create shitty rap beats

he can jam along to this perfectly while inserting his own creative fills and beats, without using a midi sequencer to play for him

  • jealous?

  • holy shit! my eyes have just been blown outta my fuckin head!!!

  • fucking AMAZING!

i just wish i didn't go out of sync xD

  • this guy is going to make sky eats airplane sound so nasty

  • what do you know jackass? its fucking travis orbin. not fake.

  • That's a bizarre set up. 3 hi hats?! lol

    Good stuff though.

    Sick song.

  • I hate this kind of music. and Usually these videos suck. But you fuckin kick ass. I love the style. Damn dude. Nice work.

  • you actually made rap sound good. orbinator ftw!

  • that was awesome!

  • whats the name of the song?

  • Nigga What Nigga Who.

  • awesome dude

  • yeah travis barker right guys?

more like the most overrated bitch in the biz

check my shit out after watchin this tight shit

  • That.... WAS AWESOME! ★★★★★

  • I think we're all in agreement here that you rape the shit out of travis barker. MAD PROPS

  • very interesting

  • Haha, Travis Barker is a musical retard in comparison to this. Just listen to Periphery.

  • The Orbinator >>>>>>>> Travis Barker

  • travis orbin > travis barker

  • Really good job, man!!

Are you left-handed or just awesome with your left hand as well??

    Very creative.!

  • He's just very good with both.

  • fuck barker its all about the orbinator

    fo real .

  • holy shit, that was SIIIICKKK! good job man

  • who fucking cares if he's never been in a plane crash?! it's not like that makes u a good drummer is it... travis barker sucks dick compared to this guy

  • haha yeah !

  • better than Travis Barker

  • Huh.. Travis Barker ain't shit.

  • much respect. You can call yaself a musician. not just a drummer.

  • in case you guys didnt notice, gross is a word for good haha, so everyone that gave me the thumbs down you suck!

  • as a drummer I must say... GREAT JOB BRO !!!!

search my band INNERPHASE , hope you dig it. peace!

  • man thats fantastic

there are too many people these days particularly metal drummers can only do one style but its great to see that you've really paid your dues as a drummer

    fuck tho

    too tight for words...

    peace dude

  • This makes me want to use 100% pure flesh justice in a homosexual fashion!

  • Hip Hop sucks, but you're a great drummer!

  • Don't listen to the fools that say you should leave Hip Hop alone, music was made by man not machine. That double hi-hat work is insane, i would give anything to drum this good people.

  • damnn travis this some dope shit here my g...shits mad ill

  • oh by the way, what kind of china is that? :)
