I have an iMac shit that's fucking 6 or 7 years old, but the only real reason I have it is because it's simple to use. Unfortunately it's about as good of a gaming computer as my toaster.

Great video. Excellent points! My pc's are refurbished, purchased with money earned cashing in scrap metal. I put Linux on it, cost is about 10 cents for a dvd to burn and download time is next to nothing. I like Linux, I want control of my pc.

I agree that a person that knows what they are doing can customize a PC to be more powerful for less money than a MAC. But, Apple builds their units so that all the hardware and software work VERY well together. The iMac's advantage is how the user interacts with the software. My wife knows nothing of computers,yet has been able to navigate the iMac tremendously easier than my PC. 99% of people are not tech savy like you and I and Apple has taylored their OS and hardware to that demographic.
im not butthurt, but the macbook air only has 2 gigs of ram because it only NEEDS 2 gigs of ram and will run just as fast (faster even) as this 17" HP beast im running.
its not just gaming, pc is better at any kind of realtime rendering. Mac is strictly workstation which means anything that isnt workstation related its not going to do very well. But pc is a general purpose computer so it can be optimized to do anything. Its more dynamic and less expensive. Thats also why pc users are more versed in software and hardware because they have to figure things out on their own.
ive got i7 2600/gtx580/gtx550ti(physX)/8gb1600mhzRAM/z68 mobo with all the gaming peripherals needed. the only thing it does better is games. anything else, mac does it better. Seeing that youre a gamer, you should be a PC. More teenagers would probably prefer PC's

He also was saying that its a lot cheaper if you ARE going to spend over a thousand dollars on a computer. Think about it, someone who just wants to edit videos/music wouldn't need a 3000 dollar computer.

Are you aware of the class action lawsuits that Apple swept under the carpet for tens of thousands of quality control issues with iMac and Macbook video cards and LED displays? Resale value is a silly concept that should never apply to computers. It basically means that you buy a Mac one year, then sell it the next and fork out money for a new Mac, which is something that quite a few Mac customers (ironically) brag about.

Well first, that's not what happens. I've checked resale value on Macbooks and if you think you're going to sell off a $2499 17" Macbook Pro for $200 less than what you paid for, then you're getting bad info. Secondly, computers are supposed to last, if you build them right. That's the main problem with Macs. Obsolete straight out of the box with 16-24 month-old hardware. While the PC landscape keeps leaping ahead in paradigm shifts, Apple holds back to price-gouge.

I like the fact that my computer holds some value. Not everyone can afford a new one and buying a refurb or otherwise "used" computer makes sense in my book.
That I agree with. And....despite everything I'm saying, I'm not knocking Macs as computers, for they're great at what they do. I don't think they're going to max out in power over what a PC can accomplish, but that's like comparing a Ferrari to Lamborghini anyways. They're fine cars, both of them. I just have this incredible frustration with Apple for being shady. The no-virus myth, the build quality myth, the price tags. It's probably what's caused me from getting a Mac.

Also, Mac mem is so expensive because it is ECC buffered SERVER MEMORY which will cost a good 600% more than standard desktop mem for a computer which will be most likely be used by a moron that doesn't know how to computer. My tiny refurbished 2005 HP Compaq has a larger processor and more space for RAM (I, personally, have no need to go above, what, 2.5 RAM?) than the new 2010/2011 Mac my friend has.

The fact is simple: Windows, specifically 7, blows any and all versions of OS X out of the water. PCs nowadays are built with high-end processing power, physical memory and hard drive speed and space. Mac computers almost meet those standards but then decide to bring their price to usually anywhere between 150- and 350% of an equivalent PC computer.
The bright side is that they look pretty. Is that worth $2,000+ more to you?

It doesn't take a lot of tinkering to run OSX on Windows. All it takes is VMWare or other parallels software and voila.....instant access. As for legality, I fail to see how that factors into anything.

My friend, the only reason Apple has made it "illegal" is so they can continue to force overpriced Mac hardware down the public's throat. Ironically, this is the easiest thing to see if shown to someone. Case in point: RAM. Apple charges $750 to upgrade 6GB to 16GB in a Mac. Does that seem justifiable to you? If not, then you can understand why Apple denies OSX the "legality" of running on separate hardware. It would never hold up in court mind you, but even so....
@MaestroDraven - I agree!!! They do overcharge for their ram - that's for sure. I think their hardware isn't that overpriced in general if you look at all you get - more USB ports, firewire 400/800 and bluetooth built in etc. You can get cheaper hardware in the Win world, but those laptops are absolutely flimsy feeling to me. As for it not holding up in court (their bundling of software/hardware) it already has. They sued Psystar and won. They can no longer sell PCs w/Mac OS X installed.
True by Psystar was making money off of it, don't forget. For the average user, it wouldn't hold up. The end user, I mean. I mean if that was the case, then technically the defendant could ask why similar hardware (PC and Mac) means that if you upgrade your Mac, you wouldn't get sued.

They offer 10,000 RPM Hard drive, they offer redundant power supplies. The mac pro doesn't offer any of these things, it is literally a middle of the road desktop with a Xeon in it that apple decided to call a workstation. The dell does have 2X the performance of the mac so why can't I say that ? ON-SITE PARTS AND LABOR, must I say more?

@TheMasterofganja Let me remind you windows machines can dual boot linux which is the most popular server platform on the planet (so popular in fact apple actually runs their india server on red hat) And the only reason PC's can't boot OSX in common place (outside of hackintosh's) is purely because of apples regulation of the software. It windows wasn't open mac's wouldn't be able to run it either, it's noting macs can do that PC's couldn't given the opportunity.

The only reason why people get viruses on PC is that they suck at computers. I once let an 11 year old kid use my PC laptop and his dumbass clicked on those scam messages on your computer that says "Download This" when if you click on it, you get a virus. Probably one of my biggest regrets ever.

I agree that a person that knows what they are doing can customize a PC to be more powerful for less money than a MAC. But, Apple builds their units so that all the hardware and software work VERY well together. The iMac's advantage is how the user interacts with the software. My wife knows nothing of computers,yet has been able to navigate the iMac tremendously easier than my PC. 99% of people are not tech savy like you and I and Apple has taylored their OS and hardware to that demographic.

its not just gaming, pc is better at any kind of realtime rendering. Mac is strictly workstation which means anything that isnt workstation related its not going to do very well. But pc is a general purpose computer so it can be optimized to do anything. Its more dynamic and less expensive. Thats also why pc users are more versed in software and hardware because they have to figure things out on their own.

Resale value is a silly concept that should never apply to computers. Well first, that's not what happens. I've checked resale value on Macbooks and if you think you're going to sell off a $2499 17" Macbook Pro for $200 less than what you paid for, then you're getting bad info. Secondly, computers are supposed to last, if you build them right. That's the main problem with Macs. Obsolete straight out of the box with 16-24 month-old hardware. While the PC landscape keeps leaping ahead in paradigm shifts, Apple holds back to price-gouge.

@MaestroDraven - Not going wild, BUT a one year old Mac is fine w/me. Don't need it to be brand new. It all depends on where (eBay) you buy it. Same goes for the BMW. And to get the most resale from either, you have to take care of it - no stickers/scratches. You'd be surprised what you can get. Just gotta be smart about it. I like the fact that my computer holds some value. Not everyone can afford a new one and buying a refurb or otherwise "used" computer makes sense in my book.

The fact is simple: Windows, specifically 7, blows any and all versions of OS X out of the water. PCs nowadays are built with high-end processing power, physical memory and hard drive speed and space. Mac computers almost meet those standards but then decide to bring their price to usually anywhere between 150- and 350% of an equivalent PC computer.
The bright side is that they look pretty. Is that worth $2,000+ more to you?

My friend, the only reason Apple has made it "illegal" is so they can continue to force overpriced Mac hardware down the public's throat. Ironically, this is the easiest thing to see if shown to someone. Case in point: RAM. Apple charges $750 to upgrade 6GB to 16GB in a Mac. Does that seem justifiable to you? If not, then you can understand why Apple denies OSX the "legality" of running on separate hardware. It would never hold up in court mind you, but even so....

I think their hardware isn't that overpriced in general if you look at all you get - more USB ports, firewire 400/800 and bluetooth built in etc. You can get cheaper hardware in the Win world, but those laptops are absolutely flimsy feeling to me. As for it not holding up in court (their bundling of software/hardware) it already has. They sued Psystar and won. They can no longer sell PCs w/Mac OS X installed.

@CMI1986X64 When you say 3k Im assuming you're referring to the Mac Pro desktop which is a "Workstation" grade computer, not a gaming rig. If you go on Hp or some other shit companies website and look at the workstations they are in the 3-5 thousand dollar range. I can tell you are completely ignorant when it comes to Mac computers, the days of "under-performing" are over. Apple makes some of the fastest computers out there, with sandy bridge i7s and thunderbolt, PCs are left in the dust.

@TheMasterofganja who makes it so i would take their word for it. Mid 5 series card, nothing more nothing less. The high end is a 6990 which is literally 3X faster than a 5770(all the same still not a workstation card). How does a GPU not increase system performance?? It offloads visual workload from the CPU allowing the CPU to focus more of it's resources on processing application data. Seriously man, you sound like an uneducated idiot who has steve jobs dick too far up his ass to think strait.

No it never becomes trivial, especially in a "workstation" where one would presume you are doing "work" I never said having a 6990 makes your computer 2X as fast, you said that asshole. The problem is that PC users generally have never used a Mac exclusively for any period of time and 99.9% of Mac users have used Windows exclusively. You think everything comes down to numbers, well numbers arn't shit compared to reliability, build quality, security and stability; this is where Windows fails miserably. Lion is eons ahead of Vista 7.

@TheMasterofganja Regardless of our feelings towards one another, we have gotten away from the real point of this discussion which is your statement of "mac pro is a workstation" (which it really isnt when you consider the technologies and components it lacks) And "PC workstations cost just as much if not more than mac pro" ( I have already shown you that not only is the PC less expensive, it actually offers 2X the performance of the mac pro with a much better warranty)

Nevertheless, PC workstations are stuck with Windows, the mac pro can legitimately run any OS. You really need to stop with this "2X performance," its just complete bullshit. You truly don't know anything of Apple if you are saying anything has a better warranty and/or support, the Apple store will help you with anything and if they can't they will replace it for free.

@TheMasterofganja No "workstations" offer "workstation" grade parts Like "workstation" grade GPU's such as ATI Fire Pro or Nvidia Quadro. They offer 10,000 RPM Hard drive, they offer redundant power supplies. The mac pro doesn't offer any of these things, it is literally a middle of the road desktop with a Xeon in it that apple decided to call a workstation. The dell does have 2X the performance of the mac so why can't I say that ? ON-SITE PARTS AND LABOR, must I say more?

@TheMasterofganja Let me remind you windows machines can dual boot linux which is the most popular server platform on the planet (so popular in fact apple actually runs their india server on red hat) And the only reason PC's can't boot OSX in common place (outside of hackintosh's) is purely because of apples regulation of the software. It windows wasn't open mac's wouldn't be able to run it either, it's noting macs can do that PC's couldn't given the opportunity.

Most gamers only care about they're graphics card's because all they do is game. Few gamers really understand the fundamentals of system building and hardware integration/optimization. I will always have way more hardware that is properly configured to an OS that is tuned to take advantage of the hardware its on and be just as light and stable as OSX (before you start talking about "average or most" PC users keep in mind the PC/Mac market share and the fact users like me easily equal or outnumber overall mac users by a bit)
