To you ppl at the bottom of this comments thinger ma jig ( I hope you kno what I mean) free shaping = clicking for smaller steps towards a behavior goal.
Ex: to Free shape your dog to turn their head to the left: wait until they move their head slightly, then click, then only click when they move their head slightly to the left, then a little more, say to a 10 degree angle then 20 30 and so on until you get to the goal. This often takes a while though but the dog remembers better when they act
Great video Emily glad to see the shaping version of this behavior. I do like how you said to use luring to make the process go faster but wait and see if the dog will repeat to behavior. Fantastic video and way to go Trish I was very happy to see how quickly she caught on.
@Staceybob that's incredibly easy to train. just teach your dog to target a mat, tell him to down whenever he targets it on cue and soon enough he'll generalize that and down on the mat whenever you ask him to target. click for longer and longer periods of down stay on the mat. then move the mat under your chosen chair, cue him to mat target and give him a treat when you're done with the stuff you're doing on the chair.
@mysecretscankill I assume it's to let your dog try to think for itself, rather than be told what to do. It probably helps for when you're trying to teach more complicated behaviours that your dog may need to infer what to do.

This is a GREAT training video. The trainer really knows what she is doing. Using clicker training takes some practice, but it is worth the effort.

Now what would be awesome, is if you could tell them to go under a chair whilst you're sat on it, and cue them to lie under it :D

@ShadowandPatches Thanks, I know it's easy, I've already taught my girl to do it. I que 'go under' then 'down' and she'll lie under my legs now.
