Although I found Ranka to be a rather detestable character throughout the entire series, this song is definitely one of the things that I can't not hate her for doing. Frankly (and this is to be expected due to the immense time gap), she sings it much better than Minmei does. It's nice that Frontier took the time to give some of those old songs a modern flare. Minmei's singing wasn't the best, and I'm not sure the English dubber knew how to sing at all really. I suppose I've heard worse...

When he get's shot the one chick says sth like "He's so cute when he get's hit." and the other answers sth like "Yeah. But he should try to be hit less often. This is a training match after all." For those comparing Ranka and Minmei's versions, I feel that's an unfair comparison despite singing the same song (minus the tweaking Ranka's version has). Bear in mind that both versions are reflections of the music of the day and age their respected series came out. I like Ranka's version because it has a peppier beat, but Minmei's is more nostalgic in terms of what the song's lyrics are about. While Ranka's makes a good upbeat song, Minmei's seems more, shall we say, romantic.

The original Macross seires took place from the year 1999-2012. Like I said, Minmei and Ranka were born about half a century apart and the same can be applied to their versions of the same song. No there is no season 2 for Macross Frontier but 2 movies are going to be released in Japan based on this anime. "Macross Frontier-The False Diva" and "Macross Frontier-Wings of Goodbye".

Macross Zero and Plus are just older prequels based on the Macross anime universe with completely different characters.

I actually really love Robotech. It's really no different from the original Macross, either. But really, it's just such a large part of my youth that I can't bring myself to even dislike it! I also bought the DVDs when they first came out, and honestly... even watching then, I enjoyed them immensely.
