@Tonithenightowl I agree. Despite the fact that I still remember all too well the pain I felt when a boy I had a crush on didn't return my interest, I also feel that we probably weren't meant for each other.
@revacohen Amen to that lol. Pitney songs were balm to the hurting heart, he had great song writers writing just for his style and voice. And he could deliver. He melted the hearts of teen girls in his hay day and when they became grandmothers he could still do it. I regret never seeing him in person. He's sorely missed but his legacy is alive and well. :o)
Wow, how great is Gene Pitney. His voice is like a bell chiming- clear and straight forward. This song along with Town Without Pity are two of the greatest angst songs of all time and both sung by Pitney. IMO a tremendously underrated singer. Can't think of anyone currently with this style. What person under 40 would know who the hell Pitney is? A real shame Gene is no longer with us. RIP Gene. Some of us still remember how great you were and maybe with the magic of YouTube others will find out.
@IanHunedoara8 If I had heard this song as a teenager, it probably would have been my teen angst song, too. As, I had stated earlier, it's weird how those memories don't go away.
@pauldrake2511 So have I. I still remember the boy in high school I had a crush on, but who didn't want me in return. Funny how memories like that don't go away.
I just heard this one this morning, and it brings back so many memories. A great song, by a awesome artist! Sorry his life was cut short. Thanks for posting this.
Seemed like this song was a staple back then. An imortal in my mind.

@hodoboc However, good thing we didn't end up with those we thought we couldn't do without. :o) I know for myself it was a blessing.

An absolute brilliant work of art.
Oh, the bumps of goose . . . the pain . . . the joy . . . the memories . . .
We salute—and we Thank—You, Gene.

My favorite is probably Only love can break a Heart; but then I enjoy everything Gene sang. Such a clean sound!

It's a good song, but I fancy Neil Sedaka's version better.

Probably my favorite Gene Pitney song. He had such a unique voice.
Truly in an elite class of singers, along with Roy Orbison and Del Shannon. And both left us much too soon. May they RIP.

There's nothing like a song about good old-fashioned unrequited love. I would hate to be a teenager again.
