AND, your referral to "cults" is humorous as you stop in the middle of your activity to talk to your unseen, unseeable, unproven, unprovable, inert deity. Talking to invisible "friends" lies in the dead-center of the definition of "delusional."
So you would fully support menorahs in the courthouse? Islamic prayer carpets in public school hallways? Wiccan pentagrams on schoolbuses? They're not physically hurting you, and they are as much public property as this lawn.
Further, why not make the creche less revisionist and replace those silly Northern European models with dark-skinned/black models? These would probably be closer to the reality of the times.
let me make this clear -- the fact that other groups want to put signs up is not my issue -- the fact that process was not followed and it went straight to "We will sue" threats is what upset me --- If they had followed process and been denied and another group approved - then that would be a legitimate argument --- but just trying to sue and starting a stink without following process is not right --
ok~ yes im aware gluttony is a sin and im working on loosing weight~ unlike some who are working on being kind~ also in the video i said it wouldnt both me if other religious groups put up displays ~ this video is about the lack of self sensorship~ in essence if you do not like what others do~ dont participate or watch their videos~
Okay, Is there a link between obesity, which is 80% in America, and Christianity, which is also 80% in America. Wonder if any test have been done on that?
@BandOfAtheist -- good thought -- i do not know -- not all christians are overweight though so I think it has more to do with McDonalds than religion - but I give you gentleman of year award -- not......
haha, but religion DOES cause physical harm to my brain, lol. Therefore it is bad? But govt CANNOT favor one religion. A court house is very much a govt building and public property.
Let me say this about the nativity scene. I don't believe in Jesus but I have a lot of compassion for Joseph, who is supposedly Mary's boyfriend. He symbolizes the millions of men whose wives/girlfriends have cheated on them.
you show a good example of pinheaded christian. It is not an issue of freedom of religion. It is an issue of separation of church and state. Go to read the constitution.
@ganggan I am not a pinhead - in this county taxpayers are allowed to petition to put displays on government property that their monies pay for --- no other group petitioned to put up a display - now another group is mad because no one in their demographic petitioned for their particular belief system --
im sick of Assholes. With there militant asshole try to push There Bullshit down every bodies throat. And im not talking about the religious. Im talking about assholes like you. And no im Agnostic. But i hate assholes of any color. And most of you people are one of them. Nothing stopping Muslim from putting up something and the same goes for any other religion. But putting up sign saying "god dosnt exist" is just childish. I dont call this a major violation of church and state.
Well I think you need to get some perspective, no matter how angry it makes you. What if the tables were turned? What if there was a colorful, seasonal picture that said "Evolutionism"? Everyone would get mad at them for trying to convert them, or something. If the Nativity scene was on a church's property, I wouldn't want it to be taken down... but a courthouse, of all things in the United States, should not favor a religion.
@purplelady21 First off let me apologize for my previous remark. It was inflammatory and does nothing to address the real issue at hand. Being a reactionary and allowing emotions to get the best of me is truly not my style. That said I think the best course of action in a situation like that in Athens, TX is to ban ALL religious displays on government property. It is a bad practice to mix religion with government and historically has never had positive results.
Great video, but once correction. Our founding documents read we have freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. Big difference. The atheist quote it the wrong way which is with the From. Once again, great video but thats a big difference
@MrVladteples There is an Establishment Clause and Freedom of Religion Clause. The United States Government can not show favor to any one faith or religion and must remain completely neutral. They also can not do anything that inhibits private people from practicing their religion. So, a government can't show favor towards one faith (nativity scenes, Allegheny County v. ACLU or make a church employ people they don't want to, Church of Latter-Day Saints v. Amos). It's a simple standard.
@MrVladteples thank you --- i take it as freedom of religion allows one to not have a religion - hence freedom from religion -- that is where i get that
I think some of the issue is that it is on city property which would imply the city has a preference to the Christians. If it wasn't on the city they might have less of a fuss. I agree with you just don't pay attention to it, the suing is just BS. If it isn't hurting you then just leave it be. As far as cults go I think anyone could call religion a cult...in a way all religions are cults of a sort. Though I do understand again what you mean about cults.
