There is of course that fantastic Royal Crown® Cola ad he did in "Movin' with Nancy (Sinatra)." He is fetchin' in a matador outfit and the jingle is way cooler (incredibly sexy actually) when HE does it...
@Breaherable. In retrospect it's a huge tragedy, but back then it was a matter of transmission rights policy. The artists and performers were paid contractually for the initial broadcast and *maybe* one repeat. After that the rights lapsed and the films/telerecordings were destroyed (literally taken off the spools as coils and chopped into segments that were too small for somebody to put together again) and then put in the rubbish to make room for new spools in the program storage library.
Like some other people here I too have been waiting in the hope that some period Rob E.G. footage might find its way onto YouTube. I still live in hope but I must say I've really enjoyed seeing all the great still shots that you've posted along with this clip. Thank you very much for the trouble you've taken to do that.
I agree with all of you that there must be some videos of Rob E G (and others from the period) out there. It seems to me that you need a trained archivist or specialist to visit each of the major tv stations and trawl through their archives. It would be something Screen Sound (National Film and Sound Archive) could legitimately underrtake. Once it's gone, it's gone.
Yes I agree with pyrofella I have been looking/searching on web for Australian content from this era I grew up in eg, Brian Henderson's National Bandstand, J OK 6 O'Clock Rock and other same shows, but find it hard to believe there is few videos etc from this time, someone out there must have a stock pile of great music, it would make a nice change to have this represented late at night instead of the rubbish and the mind numbing american ads aussie music fan Kiayah
@Marthious I heard a few years ago that an employee of channel 2 stole stacks of 6 o'clock rock tapes, and when he found out there was an investigation he supposedly destroyed them. I know, stinks!
As a youthful 14 yo I remember Rob E.G. on Johnny O'Keefe's 6 O'Clock Rock shown on Channel 2 back around 1960, someone must have recorded stuff from those days?
@Breatherable The ABC destroyed all of the Six O'Clock Rock recordings. Those few bits that remain somehow missed the axe. Was standard practice back then to chop "old" program films with and axe and put them in the bin.
I have 3 Rob E G LP's in my collection... He was an amazing lap steel player who had hits such as Whiplash - Si Senor - 54321- Railroadin' - Sleepwalk and many others... It's a pity there isn't other videos of him around..
Does anyone have Robbie Porter's Gemini Woman to upload?

@Claudius131 What an incredibly short sighted approach to Australian music history, 6 O'Clock Rock was part of the dawn of Aussie Pop music.
