There are nearly infinite resources to create energy. But capitalism purposely uses oil, coal and other resources that ARE actually scarce, ONLY for profit and control.

Abundance of what, energy? Markets and subsidies have give us plenty - when is the last time you went w/o power.

Clean water has to be treated and pumped and while we pay, it is not expensive. Desalinization is an expensive alternative that would cost much more than the current system.

We use oil and gas for our cars because they give us the most bang for our buck. Alternatives are unreliable, more expensive, and lacking economies of scale.

I read much about science and technology and the consensus on geothermal energy is that it is a viable alternative to fossil fuels in some places, but not a panacea. The largest geothermal project I am aware of is being developed in Iceland and is seen as an expensive gamble. While it might work to meet some of the countries energy needs, it is not a sure thing by any means.
