First off, I am Canadian, not American. The reason someone always brings it up is because the "Q" is the traditional siren of North American fire trucks (used since the early 1900s). When you hear a Q going, you instantly know that a fire truck is approaching, whereas in Europe the sirens are all similar, so a siren you hear there could be a cop, EMS or maybe the fire brigade. Not only does the Q sound amazing, but as far as I know, it is the only completely manually operated siren out there.
So whats wrong with not distinguishing which emergency service it is? Regardless you have to pull over for any of the emergency services. Yes I agree this Q siren is nice but thats your thing Canadian and or American... So can Europeans not be entitled to have their own thing when it comes to sirens aswell?
Nothing is wrong with not distinguishing between them, it is just a cool to be unique from everyone else. I never said Europeans couldn't have their own thing, I was just showing you the North American perspective to answer your question. If you guys have something totally diff, than thats great!
I know man, and I don't mean to be smart... but the amount of bitching on all the fire videos between fellow firefighters is sad...over stupid things vols. v's professional etc. we all do the same thing right? Personally I'd get those q sirens for our rigs tomorrow but I think they'd be out of place or wouldn't seem right because our rigs are so much smaller.....
i totally know what you mean, some people just are out looking to start a fight, others just have to large of an ego. Ya the Q is great but I see what you saying that because of its history on our huge N. American apparatus, it would seem very strange to put it on smaller rigs, not to mention everyone near you would probably get confused and think it was an air raid siren... I'm personally working with the guys at my station to get the Q for our town rigs, but its a long process.
even if the european sirens sound similar, it's still possible to hear if it's a fireengine, police or EMS (at least it's like that in Germany and Norway)
