  • lol from the small version of the picture (at the part that shows related videos) i thought the pic was about a german general from WWI sitting front of a desk with a huge map with ink and pen

  • @Reatbuster ... okay I stared at my picture for WAY too long now and still don't see it LOL

  • @faylinameir I have bad eyesight :P I mean it was just a moment there i saw and i clicked right afterwards thinking it was from a movie or something - since there aren't many movies about WWI i was curious - but whatever

  • *pink, not punk.

though pink is certainly a punk color

  • To get the freshest ginger for the nice punk color, just grow your own! Ginger is super easy to grow from the rhizomes (the parts we eat. technically not roots). I'm growing my own and it is spreading nicely

  • @dionkar336 agreed, although I don't have the ability to grow my own =( still a few years from getting a house, although my new apartment does have a patio. The place I was in when I shot this video was in the heart of downtown omaha and literally no green anywhere LOL

  • @faylinameir

Sorry to hear that. But a patio is certainly enough room. Just get a long rectangular grow box and let the ginger fill it up. You won't be able to harvest excessively large amounts, but for personal use, it will do nicely. Bring them indoors during their dormant winter phase to protect the rhizomes. Anywho, thanks for the video, I can't wait to try this on my young ginger!

  • Just want to say.. your recipe was great!

Done exactly! you can't go wrong.

Rice vinegar or rice wine no difference.

To all out here ,pink or white it doesn't matter, what really does, is the taste and texture.

She is right about the color, very young ginger it will turn pink.

Don't worry about the trolls with their negative comments they have nothing else better to do with their lives, when there are peeps out here looking for genuine info.

    I strongly recommend this recipe!!

    Thx again!

  • @HIMEESE Thank you very much! =-) I'm very glad you liked it, tell all your friends about my channel, more videos coming especially after the new year!

  • Can I use plastic container instead of glass jar???

  • @izharcj yes however be careful of the type of container you put it in, make sure its a heat safe container, preferrably BPA free, and you should use a container you dont care much about, in case it stains. If you have NO glass containers, try saving a jelly jar or something with a tight fitting lid to use later, its a good tip, hope you'll try it, lemme know how it goes!Q =D

  • it's pronounce gah ree and the "pink" ginger you're referring to the one you see in yoshinoya is red ginger

  • This video answered a lot of questions I had. In the past I simply went to my local Internation Food Market to purchase pickled ginger, but today they didn't have it. So instead I just bought some fresh ginger to pickle myself. Not sure of the proportions of ingredients I searched around and found you. Didn't know about the salting. Now to the task at hand and make my pickled ginger. Thanks.

  • @VinnieSutra let me know how it goes :D

  • @faylinameir It came out great. I'll use a little less salt the next time for my taste. I split the batch in two and added a couple of cloves of smashed garlic to one. Wow.

  • I lost the tip of my finger and the side of my thumb using a mandoline. Never again ... lol.

  • I added your site to my bookmarks:D yay for healthy food:D arigatou^^

  • @hikarushidou どういたしまして =^.^= (you're welcome!)

  • HI:D OMG i missed Japan and wanna make 'Gari' and here I found this video:D thanks

but i have a question? I dont have rice wine vinegar in my country what should i use? we have grape vinegar, pomegranate vinegar, apple vinegar and cherry vinegar?oh and balsamic (which i dont favor actually) ? which one should be better?

  • @hikarushidou oooo now thats a tough one for me to answer because I've never used grape, pom, or cherry vinegar before. Apple Cider vinegar has its own flavor but out of all that you listed it would PROBABLY work the best. Unfortunately you might just have to try it and find out through trial and error. If you have access to it, try to just use white distilled vinegar, it would be the prefered close second.

  • I made it today...

  • @icommand lemme know in a couple days how it tastes =) I have had mine in the fridge for 2 1/2 weeks now and it still tastes good!

  • Well documented!...If you really want to turn the Ginger pink, an easy solution is using Grenadine Syrup!

  • @rodotubu yes this is true too :) I've also seen people use the liquid from cherries, although dunno how that would work either. Annato might work if you used like a pinch since it has its own natural flavor.

  • Great instructions! :)

  • @AsianCookingmadeEasy thankies =)

  • Before anyone gets stupid and says something, YES I have a big bruise on my face, no one hit me or anything, and honestly I'm not sure what its from, I just get random bruises from time to time. Its a 1000% better today then yesterday and the end of the video was shot about 15 minutes ago.

  • @faylinameir I think you may worry a little too much :) 99.99% of people who would search for "picking ginger" (like me) wouldn't even notice :) And thank you for the vid :)

  • @Fantic1980 you're very welcome, the comment was mainly directed towards dumbasses who just troll videos and the people in my "real life" that actually watch these vids =)
