  • Beautiful! This is my favorite work by Satie...

    Thanks for sharing your talent!

  • Bravo! Absolutely beautiful performance.

  • @TheDMunir94 Thank you so much!

  • Most beatiful music in the World!!!

  • Ich habe es auch mal gespielt :) Aber um Längen nicht so gut!

    Respekt :)

  • A little too fast for my taste, but well done.

  • @MyNameIsBucket Fair enough---glad you enjoyed it nonetheless.

  • @MyNameIsBucket Really? I usually play this a lot faster than this. I know the original instructions specify it's supposed to be Andante, but I just like it a lot more when it's quicker. Les Gymnopedies, on the other hand, I'm always being told off for playing too slowly!

  • this is why i play the piano

  • Wonderfully played. Found this in a book of Satie I've got. Definitely going to learn it now. :D

Oh, and for everyone asking where to find this online: look it up on IMSLP. (IMSLP is wonderful for finding any public domain sheet music. So...a lot of piano repertoire. Google it; youtube doesn't want me to post a link.)

  • Excellent!!

  • @Room335sb Thanks!

  • along with this song, i've learned so much about this man of who iknew nothing about.....probably because as someone else mentioned,he was looked at as odd, but he's one of the most facinating composers i've ever discovered. he was something special

  • @kuntriopia He certainly was!

  • My goodness there's so many magical notes in this piece, each seem to tell their own story. Beautifully played, must be very satisfying to play some of those golden parts

  • So glad you liked it. :)

  • @PomBare And over a year on and I can finally play this with some satisfaction. I've uploaded it if anyone wants to see. Not as good as this though ^. I don't know how you played it without hitting a wrong note. I couldn't manage to play the two pieces together and still managed to make several mistakes.

  • A forgotten, or rather a never discovered masterpiece. Thanks for uploading

  • Thanks for listening.

  • Nicely done!

I want to play it too. Do you think I could find the sheet music for this song on the internet?

    Thanks

  • This is just beautiful. I want to learn how to play this and Gnossienne no 5. People who can play like this are truly inspiring to me.

  • Thank you so much!

  • Number 2 is amazing :)

  • It's my favorite too. :)

  • Erik Satie wrote a lot of odd and wierd pieces of music but it's nice that all these wonderful pianists practice and perform Eriks music for us. Eriks music shows that he looked and noticed the things around him. His music shows that he didn't particularly ascribe to everyone else's "program". He did what Eric enjoyed.

    Gracious, Chi Chi

  • So glad you appreciate him---many people just look at him as odd. Thanks very much!

  • Maybe when he lived, people thought he was odd. These days he's more accepted than anyone I think. Nevertheless it's still my favourite of the pièces froides.

  • @dannydemanny He's still looked at as an odd duck of sorts, I think. He's very broadly accepted, but his weirdness (thankfully) hasn't depreciated with time.

  • Wow, great. Now, I should get myself to learn these finally! :-)

  • Post 'em when you do!

  • Can't find the scores! Does someone know where to find them?

  • Bueno, felicidades caballero, esta versión es mucho más congruente con el espíritu de las piezas frías, ese talante un tanto melancólico y elegiaco de Satie.

  • Thanks, I thought you might like it!

  • Yes - very good. Better than the previous version.

  • Thank you!

  • one of the best recordings of this piece on YouTube - I love these pieces, I wrote a piece inspired by them.

Thanks for posting, keep it up :D

  • I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'd love to hear your piece.

  • Really nice, I'm studying these wonderful and haunting dances. They're not as easy as they seem to be at first... but they're lovely and you just can't stop playing them. Go for the third now! Thanks for posting.

  • I'm hoping to work on the third soon---post your versions!

  • where did you get this sheet music from?!

I'm in love with these pieces

  • I think I got them from an online sheet music archive as an undergraduate. If you do enough snooping around online, you'll find something--they're public domain at this point, I believe.

  • Et la n° 3??? Sinon c'est tres bien a par la fin de la n°2 a jouer plus lentement. bonne continuation.

  • wow, i totally got goosebumps :]

    love it

  • Thanks so much---I got goosebumps the first time I heard these performed, as well. They're such haunting little pieces.

  • Thanks for posting this. I had never heard of these pieces until stumbling across your posts. Well played! I like your singing, too. Look forward to future posts.

  • Thanks so much for the kind words!

  • Good job! Thats my favourite satie piece to play. I think the tempos good too.

  • They're very enjoyable---sort of hypnotic, in a weird way. I'm glad you liked it!

  • Wonderfully played, really compliments. It reminds me the sea waves... I'm wainting for the third one, the most cryptic of the three Danses de traverses.

  • Thanks! I'm definitely going to put the third one up, it might just take a while. :)

  • Great, just great, y agree: at a slower tempo the pieces are greater, I would like to learn piano, to play these pieces, my favourite composition of Satie.

  • Thank you! These are my favorite Satie pieces as well.

  • really nice....but I think you have to do this pieces faster...However your interpretation is great! good job! :)

  • I've gone back and forth on this quite a lot. Some pianists (like Aldo Ciccolini, for one) play these very quickly, and others play them pretty slowly. I've just found that the slower versions tend to bring out the texture better.

Since Satie didn't write any indication of tempo, I guess it's up to all of us to see what works best.

Thanks for the input---I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • love satie, sad that he isn't so popular ... very nice

  • I think he's finally starting to get the recognition he deserves---hopefully, more people will continue to hop on the Satie wagon!

    Thanks for watching!

  • That is a very nice interpretation of both of the pieces. Lovely!

  • Thanks so much---I can't wait to hear yours. :)
