Dude, Distortion is an effect. Distortion isn't a natural guitar sound. In my opinion, I would say Distortion makes things easier, it certainly hides a lot of mistakes in solos. Try playing any solo without your distortion, I'm sure even the most famous of guitar virtuosos make some mistakes on it.

Bro how long have you been playing guitar? How many styles do you play? I'm not going to sit here and argue with you over something idiotic as effects being cheap. Every style is different, not cheaper/harder, it's just different. Im sure every guitarist can agree with distortion hides mistakes. Sure you have to mute the strings when you sweep pick, but try sweep picking on a clean channel. I'm sure muting won't sound so clean then. Go ask your guitar teacher or w/e lmao

Distortion does hides some mistakes but wanna-whatthehellever is right that it does make the strings more sensitive. But I agree that it depends on the style you play. And yes distortion hides mistakes. But it brings out alot of mistakes too. It could bring up something that you never realized while playing clean. and vice versa

hahaha... man you are cool, I just bought a small MG15FX marshall amp that has some incorporated effects and didn't know quite how to use them, it has reverb, delay, phaser, flanger and chorus and didn't know how to get the most out of it, but now I'll check what can I do. do you have any comment on the boss ME20 or the Digitech RP-355? Take your amp,

set it on the dirty (overdrive) channel, turn the GAIN to 8, the VOLUME to 2, the TREBLE to 7, the MID to 1, the BASS to 8

And then play around with it. Tweak it to suit whatever sound you want.

Guaranteed that's pedal distortion. Anyone using the amount of effects he is (look at that pedal board!) wants to be able to switch from clean to distortion, as well as adjust the distortion, from the board.

Plus, with effects like Phaser and Flanger it's important to be able to run the effect into the amp before the distortion.
