@Londonrainwaters I think it's just you. I think he looks like he's enjoying the music. but then again, maybe that's just me. lol He did seem a bit strained in the first part ( part 1 of jbj) but after 'lively' he got happier, I think. His comments about the pigs always make me laugh. It brings such "pleasant thoughts" to MY mind. *grins Love his way of expressing things. ;)
@spotsycool Now COME ON, you can`t really call this nonsense music, can you? Although I agree his annoyance is even much more evident in part one I just can`t believe he really really LIKED this; after all he`s a musician himself....Oh, well, why am I writing it all again, just look up my comments on the JBJ-video recently uploaded by slaphead6000 (can`t post the link, sorry!) if you`re interested. :)
@Londonrainwaters no, I wouldn't call it music, just like I'm sure he wouldn't, but the whole point of this particular style is fun. I think that after awhile, his sense of humour kicked in and he realized that nobody really was interested in the quality of the music or the musicians, all they wanted was entertainment; and after he'd changed his approach, his attitude changed. He saw it for what it was: low quality music that entertains. It wasn't worth sulking over, so he just went w/ it. :)
@Londonrainwaters Well, I entirely agree with you there...the show WAS incredibly boring. which is a pity b/c it probably could have been interesting had they done it differently. I know, I love watching his expressions..he has a very demonstrative face...even when he doesn't mean to, and it's quite fun to watch! xD
...AND THEN CAME THE SWINGING SIXTIES =NO WONDER!!!! IS THE BBC ANY BETTER TODAY?? NOT MUCH=JUST LISTEN TO RADIO 2 FOR A WHILE AND YOU SOON REALISE ITS THE SAME OLD PEOPLE IN CHARGE
Isn't it amazing the way they used to speak back then; so far back (the accent I mean). The trouble with JBJ was that they would invariably have people on who didn't like pop music at all and could never understand the lyrics - in part 1 they didn't like Poetry in Motion; couldn't understand it and here we are 50 years later still playing it. A couple of years later The Beatles broke and those accents went out.
Good god what did they do to the audience ?they all sat there like they been tranquillised, seems a pre requisite for being part of this show was to have the enthusiasm of a melon.
Still a nice trip back into a completely different world, got to laugh at the woman stating that the Adam Wade song would be a good party number!!! that got to be some part...bring your own coffin!!!.
I agree with the comment that they all look like tailers dummies, more like German concentration camp prisoners..........you will not show emotion or you will die. sit perfectly still, and no-one will get hurt!!!!!!!!!
This is wonderful - I remember the show well! I never knew David McCallum was on the show (did they have different panel members on each show????) How well spoken everyone was in those days - that's something I miss today in these days of verbal garbage and grammar-mangling. Mind you, seeing how old the show looks makes me feel positively ancient ;-))
Thanks for posting this. I remember the programme but can't believe the stilted, robotic responses of the panelists. Total contrast to the over emotional, cry at anything current day TV participants. Both extremes are a bit laughable. That said a priceless piece of my childhood, thanks.
Thanks for uploading this - a real piece of visual history. I was born in 1981 and am very interested in 60's television in general. It was amazing how polite everybody was, no whooping and clapping and interrupting every 5 seconds. I can't decide whether this made it 'drier' television or a more 'pure' form of television based on truth and not celebrity. Do you have any more episodes to show us perchance? x
JESUS CHRIST!! No wonder we were kicking the shit out of each other on Brighton Beach. All it wants is Noel Edmonds to present it.... AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!
The comments on this are laughable - thank God for the Beatles! (yawn). The Pinky and Perky record has a Bill Haley style beat to it - something that the Beatles didn't do- and they couldn't if they tried.
Another comment implies they've never heard of Adam Wade! He was a big star in the early 60s - OK he sounded like Johnny Mathis but he still made some great records.

Ha ha ha! David's expression is priceless and that woman actually tapping her toe to the song(obviously ENJOYING it)is more than a little scary! This proves what a WONDERFUL impact The Beatles had on British music(and music in general)!
After November 1963, I always liked to hear the closing credits to Juke Box Jury because I knew what was on next...Doctor Who!! Ha ha, But then, I was only 6 yrs old!
Great to see the beautiful Jill Ireland again, rest her soul, but amazing how wooden both she and her husband seemed on the panel. Actually none of the panel seemed relaxed or confident compared to people on TV today. I guess they were all nervous about having to be themselves instead of performers.

@spotsycool Well, well, but the show itself was dead boring, the songs were not just low quality but TOO
silly to cause anything else than nausea (also if nobody said it loud), and so the only fun there is is the fun
I`m having when I watch David`s demonstrative expressionless face or his forced smile, it`s delicious ;)
Still, he was simply too good for this kind of trash......

That was Punky - split the band in the Hamburg years. They lost their way after that, hamstrung by Perky's ambition to get on the Royal Variety show.
