Healthcare is such an absurd topic to be considering this way right now. Our nation is nearly insolvent, we can't afford a new health care program. How many people it covers or how good the quality will be are totally moot points. We have 11 trillion in debt, plus unknown liabilities to the tune of trillions at our central bank, the Fed. We have a near 2 trillion deficit. Most people don't seem to get it, we NEED to reduce quality of life issues a little, because we've finally run out of money.

I am glad to see that there is an effort to help seniors with the costs they incur in the donut hole. I've been working with Medicare D on the PBM side since it was the drug discount program and every year the drug spend gets higher and the hole gets bigger. I keep hearing "I can't afford this" from the customers - so many seniors do not have meaningful drug coverage with this program when they are on so many meds. I hope that congress doesn't whittle it down to nothing.

In the Virginia Tax Review, Burman says VAT could do it all! Pay for Healthcare Reform, balance the budget, and exempt millions from the income tax!
