  • what I see in this video, is that you are beautiful. Thanks for the vid :)

  • so true :(

  • If you think that Indians shouldn't change their God given gift of dark skin to have lighter skin then western people shouldn't be changing their God given gift of pale skin to have tan? Either way they both use cosmetics ,which may be harmful to skin, to change.

  • But on the other hand I don't think tanning is any more intelligent than artifically lightening the skin.

  • People often want what they can't have.

  • We all want what we don't have.

If someone uses tanning it's okay but if someone use's fair and lovely it's bad. Why?

  • This just proves my idea that the negative aspects of HUMAN CULTURE is not East vs West -Racism -Pornography -Homosexuality -Greed and Corruption -Lack of family values and Oppressive family values -Backward Superstitions and stupid rituals and ceremonies -Pedosexuality All these things exist in both the East and the West To Easterners that claim "Western Culture" is "bad", look in the mirror. The East does it just as much, the only difference is that it's taboo and done in secret Hypocrites!
  • i agree with that some Indian people consider u more beautiful if u have lighter skin which is ridiculous, but i disagree with u about the cream b/c if there can be creams and lotions to to make u skin more tan then why cant there be creams and lotions to have more of fairer skin.

  • Can I ask you something do you think it is disgusting for Westerners to find dark skin more appealing using tanning creams etc or just the other way around? BTW your stunning on both sides of your face LOL

  • ur gorgeous!! first time ive seen ur video, beautiful!

  • The whole fair skin thing with Indians, it has everything to do with internalization of views influenced by British Colonialism. I wish that we move past that mentality, but sadly you can see that even in western culture this is true. Black women are constantly lightened on some of the top fashion magazine!

P.S You have really pretty eyes!!

  • @ruruross But atleast in western countries, colorism is not as blatantly accepted and encouraged as it is in Asia(including South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the middle east). Lighter skin is widely seen as being more beautiful and appealing in all these regions of Asia. It's a legacy of Colonialism for sure.

  • the left side is alot more sexier...forget the indian colonization enslaved mentality

  • There was a indian drama on star plus and it was about two sisters. One was paler and the other was brown. And the pale girl gota marriage proposal and the browner one, who was prettier in my opinion, was rejected cuz she was brown

  • Thats sooo true!! And its made worse by bollywood cuz all the actresses are really fair and all the villains and servants are brown

  • omg your superrrrr hott wasssssup!!

  • great video with a good message - btw your beautiful! :)

  • Actually it isnt straight hair everywhere in india. Im from the south and its all about curly and thick. funny isnt it? All this stuff bothers me. people should be able to be beautiful no matter what.

  • I would love to go to India in america I'm always picked on because I'm pale but really going out and getting a tan all the time can't be any better than using those creams that pale your skin

  • i love your video! i was going to do one too =) & totally agree with the "fair skin" thing. its so unnecessary.

but love what you did :D <3

  • the discrimination against dark skin isn't only in India, its everywhere in Asia. Last year my family and I visited Bangladesh for my cousins wedding. And guess what my aunts first question was about the bride? Is she light? That was her first question. And the same question was being asked by the brides mother about the groom. Maybe some places in Asia aren't so obsessed with light skin, but the majority is. I think beauty comes from within, and I totally agree with you:)

  • your so cute especially when u say i'm i'm i'm

  • great video! being darker skin toned I totally get/have been through what you're talking about. The Fair & Lovely commercials in India are also so wretched. They only break the self-esteem of dark skinned girls implying that lighter is beautiful.

  • Ur very beautiful..!!

    .

  • sub & scribed!

  • ur so pretty! :)

  • love love love!!!

  • And the sad thing is that many british asians also believe that the fairer you are the prettier you are

  • @shazxxxxxxx16786 I know lady, I dislike it when some elders speak about potential marriage arrangements and one of the first questions they ask beside occupation, family background etc is "are they dark?" I'm like does it matter.... a marriage does not work or break down due to either parties skin color, nor is it based on skin coloring

  • you look so pretty here!

  • @afroze4all Try watching the video properly and actually listening then perhaps your brain will process the information for you to understand! You used the wrong word nuisance (look up its meaning) in that particular sentence. For you to say I have no knowledge displays arrogance you don't know me! I'm actually highly educated thank God! You shouldn't make assumptions or assert your own insecurities onto others

  • This quest for fairness is ingrained in their culture and inculcated in girls from a very young age. It is harder to appreciate what you have when you don't fall anywhere near the beauty ideal of a certain culture. I agree that Indians should celebrate their complexions no matter what they are. Biologically speaking, you are better adapted to that environment if you have darker skin.

  • Though I know you are coming from a good place, your inarticulate beauty pageant rant about "being happy with what you have" is somewhat ill-received because it is very easy to say when you have grown-up in a sheltered/privileged life. Indians have an inferiority complex when it comes to people with lighter skin due to colonization and class struggle. You can't even turn on the TV without seeing at least one commercial for a fairness cream.

  • @sunnylovesit1 seriously girl i couldnt agree more on the skin tone discrimination in india. when I went to India i felt the same, and i was quite disgusted by it. I heared some stories about girls getting bullied by boys or something.... Its a shame coz tanned skin is a blessing and yeah british indian would understand what i mean :)

  • @Shaz5T1 So you had similar experience as I did I know what you mean lady. Thanks for engaging in the message behind the video :)

  • i feel the same way... when i was in HS i dated a paki guy.. his mum met me randomly one day and the only thing she had to say was that i was too dark.. it tore me apart, i started using fair and lovely, saffron treatments, and anything i could get my hands on to lighten my skin. eventually i got wise and that whole "light skin is beautiful" thing just SICKENS me

  • @aestheticglory nice to hear you don't like the idea of fairer skin being somewhat superior to darker skin. I'm surprised his mum wasn't like (que Bollywood sound effects) what my son is dating... (thats just a typical cultural taboo). Anyway don't ever let another's negative thoughts and comments affect you I know its easier said than done but, really people who use their mouth to be hurtful towards others are not worth dwelling over. :)

  • @sunnylovesit1

yea.. his mum didn't know we were dating.. well she wasnt suppose to.. but his sister knew.. and i knew his sister and.. his mum found out but pretended like i didnt exist lol but i'm jus glad its over! lol but my heart goes out for girls who have to be subjected to that !!

  • I feel exactly hoew you do i went last november

  • Hi girls i live in spain and people die to look darker!!! Perhaps people that try to look lighter want to do it to get the same skin tone on your face???

  • i dint wan write too much but it was awesome :))))

  • well for you its easy to speak. You are FAIR AND LOVELY!

  • @666hackss I am not implying anything about myself, just to look beyond someones physical appearance. Easy for me to speak....?? I don't think you fully understood the important message behind this video

  • Hi sunny, I don't think the obsession to be white is Indian alone. Pretty much all asian especially colonized "non white" countries have this problem...be it Thailand or malaysia or nepal. Indians go "mild" compared to the extent that some of my friends have gone to..surgery and peels and everyday masks. Its not normal but it's their normal.

This obsession with whiteness is diluting in Indian youth but growing more in the other asian counties. It's sad and it might take decades to see any change

  • @myliferomanticcomedy trust me, obsession with lighter skin is still BIG in India...when they cast actresses in the good innocent girl role, they choose the lighter skinned actress while the darker skin actresses play the role of the sexy temptress. A B list bollywood actress brought this topic up about how she constantly struggles to get meatier roles because she's not as light as KATRINA OR KAREENA. skin lightening products is a thriving billion $ business in india

  • @myliferomanticcomedy Even to this day(in the year 2012), there still are advertisements in magazines and newspapers looking for a FAIR SKINNED bride or a FAIR SKINNED groom. Bollywood stars(male as well female) peddle skin lightening products but justify it by saying "it's not a skin lightening product. it's for evening you skin tone". BULLSHIT. lol. I'm Indian myself. It's sickening. We have to do better as a people! Of course, not all Indians think like that but MOST do.

  • And I have noticed that (even though my teeth are something I am not comfortable with) when I smile.. I feel beautiful so you are absolutely right!

  • I've just found your videos from your Desi Tag.. and they are great! You are so genuine and lovely :)

You remind me a little bit of Sunita from Corrie :L :) Beautiful!

  • It's pretty sad. The reason why South Asians want to be fair skinned and have slim noses is because of the people that took over our countries and/or had influence; The British, the Turks, the Arabs, the Dutch etc. These people were fair or white, had lighter eyes and so on but they also had such high positions in our societies. So of course they appeared to be superior and everybody looked up to them...to this day, the image of wanting to be them still exists.

  • @Bollywoodgurl I don't think that's true at all.

Northern Indian people already looked fairly similar to those supposed 'Invaders', so your point is rather flawed.

  • @Akshaizo I'm talking about India as a WHOLE. Next time, I'll name states so people like you don't start nit picking about who is fair etc :-)

  • Nice to read your comments people.... its this type of discussion/views that can hopefully make people think these perceptions of beauty is not what we must all look like and conform to. Lets focus on an individuals personality traits rather than appearance. You can be regarded as a 'beautiful' person but have not the nicest of personalities so lets focus on being a better person than looking a certain way :)

  • you're so genuine i love it !

  • I totally agree with you...you are such a beautiful girl.Love both the makeup you have on ur face.

I am an Indian too and lived in India for 22 years. Now I live in US.This complexion, height and slim thing in India just bugs me a lot

  • i guess the thing is just that something which is unique is special .... so lets say everyone on the world have blue eyes just few people would have brown eyes ... maybe then people would prefer to have brown eyes because its special? i dunno ... but what i want to say is that i guess its the same case everywhere on the world ..on regions where people are naturally tan the preffer to have fairer skin and regions with naturally lighter skin tone like to have tan skin

  • i think the message behind the your whole video is very nice and thoughtfull ... so sweet actually :)i agree with what you said of not beeing concious about skin colour or looks. But on the other hand you know there are just certain trend all over the world and having a fair skin is supposed to be prettier just like in africa they prefer thinner lips or in the west they try to fake tan! its not such a big issue :S

  • You know, one day, when i was searching through the papers for an advert that i remembered seeing, i came across this in the matrimonial section. 'bride wanted, any caste, must be fair - albinos ok. contact so and so'

    It made me think.

  • Actually I don't know about the height thing in the north, but in the south, petite girls are considered beautiful. petite, fair with long black hair. I'm tall, tan, with short hair that i cut off last year. :-/ yeah, good for me! :-D

  • It's a sad fact but a fact none the less. What's even worse is that it just like you said, it stems from hundreds of years ago of caste system ideology and the Dutch take over and in the Americas the Europeans enslaving. Yet that time has passed and we definitely need to let go and cultivate a less primitive way of thinking of beauty and accept each other. Sorry for the long winded comment! Love your videos!!

  • The craziest thing it that juvenile way of thinking is in every culture. I am multiracial, consisting of Black, Latin,Native American, Caucasian to name a few lol and here in the states the its still used. I would say that I am you're skin tone and I would get picked on by Black girls for that, or it was assumed that I thought of myself of being better. Latin girls same thing, they didn't say anything to me since I am darker, but they would go and dye their hair blond to appear more Caucasian.

  • You are soo pretty!!

  • im indian and i dont understand why do whiter people want to be darker???? honestly im happ with my skintone and i think other people should be to also i dont think whiter complexions look unhealthy they look good so do tan skintones! people shoukd really stp being picky!!! but u knoe its a fact tht what u dnt have you will always want it! so whtevr but just whtevr ur doing shldnt harm u like to much sun tanning is really bad for you but people still will do it!!!... btw nice video!!

  • Very good video! I understand what you re saying. I am german with almost white skin and my husband is indian.

The first thing `some of his friends said about my photo was: "Oh, she is so white!" I think that`s so stupid. They don`t ask about my character or what I am doing just about my skin colour!

  • @Claraellenmama oh no that is not acceptable, what a awful comment to make about another person. Regardless of the color of a person another should NOT pass comment on their thoughts on some else's skin color. unfortunately I'm not surprised, I am aware this does happen in particular where there is a couple either of different ethnicity or just different skin color. As long as you and husband are healthy and happy thats all that really matters. I wish you both a wonderful life together! :)

  • I had/have similar experience with being criticized or feeling shamed of being dark. I have darker skin than most Korean girls/women. Living in the West, I have felt freed from feeling embarrassed of my skin tone. Now I appreciate my dark skin. Sometimes, I partake in the guilty pleasure of sunbathing, which feels divine

  • i completely agree with you. there is also a white perception of beauty (big eyes, small nose, fair skin) that is embedded in asia that is extremely unhealthy for us as a whole. i personally think that both skin tones are beautiful but find that tanner skin "looks healthier" than whiter skin. when its too light it tends to look really pasty and almost sick looking because our skin's yellow undertones dont glow like that naturally.

thanks for this video sunny, keep it up! :)

  • @inkfantasy Thank you. It is good to know that I'm not the only one who disagrees with this archaic view of beauty based on skin color! Hopefully as time goes by it will eventually be eradicated (or maybe thats wishful thinking) either way we should just be grateful for what we do have whether it is a lot or not very much, and stop judging people on appearance.

  • I agree with your views, its amazing how attractive how asians people have this fascination with "fair skin".

  • @bosschickita I'm happy to hear you agree with me. The views on beauty I experienced while in India are so archaic. Lets do our best to help people realize that these views are not right!

  • @sunnylovesit1 Its not only the indian culture its the pakistani culture aswell i had a very similar experience when i went to pakistan. all the women use fair and lovely cream. Beauty there is all about all the things you said and also long hair, big eyes the list goes on and on. Its really very sad. x
