On 3DS virtual console they released the NES version instead of the Gameboy one so you a gain the higher NTSC resolution but lose the bonus features. Probaby because 3DS has no printer support making the bonus printer content useless on 3DS.

@MegaSlickdude My suggestion is to get a gameboy advance sp. It plays both GBC and GBA games, as well as original GB games except it adds colour to them. The hardware build itself is great and the backlit screen ensures you can see what you're playing.

I had also forgotten this game has many things you can use the Game Boy Printer for, and you can trade high scores through the infra-red port to eliminate all of the low high scores. They really put a lot of extra stuff I didn't appreciate 10 years ago the way I do now.

Damn I'd forgotten what a masterpiece this game is! I had it back in 1999 and sold it, just rebought it today. I'd forgotten about so much! I even forgot this game has world maps. I reset it back to factory (start, then select+A at the pipe screen) The challenge mode has a ton of replay value, looking forward to unlocking You vs Boo and the Lost Worlds again

But if I were you, I'd maybe think about getting at least the basic Gameboy Advance (horizontal one) and the gba pokemon games like either pokemon firered or leaf green. This way, all your invested hours training your pokermon will be worth it, as there are ways you can get the GBA pokemon to current and future Nintendo DS pokemon games. There's unfortunately NO support for the original Pokemon games' Pokemon in the current DS games :(

@19grand Idk, I mean, if your old NES stopped working, it was nice to have the All Stars version on SNES, not to mention being able to save your game. And having it on the handhelds is a pretty cool idea to me. We could never have dreamed of being able to play a true port of SMB on the go back in the early 90's.
