@tool5150 dtm cars are purpose built race cars made to resemble a production car. They are not based on any road car, they have a different chassis and a different engine. The driver sits in a different spot in the car, way further back and almost in the center. They have a different wheel base. They have flat bottoms. @jraybay It would never beat the Formula 1 car, thats just not possible. The F1 car has much more HP per kilogram, compared to the Veyron, its just too heavy. F1 cars accelerate much faster and their top speed is far over 400 km/h aswell. On the quarter mile, the Veyron had not a chance because of its weight. However, F1 Cars are made for drive on tracks, and not on a straight quarter mile. :)
@CwalkinZoom Well no the veyron did beat a formula 1 car actually it travelled 267 mph recently but achieved it's speed on pavement and ran more than a mile. The formula 1 car achieved almost full speed in like 3/4 of a mile. If the veyron could just wind itself up all day it would beat a formula 1 car in top speed. But a quarter mile yes the formula 1 car wins . The veyron doesnt face as much aero drag, open wheel drag, and the possibility of launching itself in the air.

Veyron owns F1 car for top speed with normal configuration since the F1 car is geared optimally for speed round a track, typically a top speed of 200mph before it bounces off the rev limiter. Acceleration is of more importance than top speed. Change the gearing and remove the rear wing and it's a different matter.
@Squawkerd depends what track though.. they have different configs for different tracks. if the car is configured for monza they easily hit 360+ in a matter of seconds, it's not that much of a stretch to do an extra 40kph with unlimited road avaliable but i take your point.

@Squawkerd yep. braking is as important as aceleration, and cornering is more important than both. formula one excels in all of those over veyron by a HUGE margin. it's not even funny. f1 makes any road car look like a budget weekend car when on track. they can achieve up to 3.5 lateral g's in cornering, while top tier road cars like enzo (which corners slightly better than veyron) gets only about 1g.
without the wings a f1 car could reach over 450km/h with ease, i read. on a 2 liter engine.
@muulka theres one specific corner, can't remember which track, in which f1 cars get 8G. its insane to watch, doesn't even look real.
and for road cars "well above 1" actually floats around 1.3 and is very situational. still can't hold a candle to f1 cars and even karts get more G than that on corners :P

I once got mine up to 45mph going down the Hermitage in Bridgnorth - the space / time continuum was actually distorted. I was 5 yrs younger when I reached the bottom. Even the mighty Norris thinks twice before pulling his Grifter out of the garage. He gets his Chopper out without a second thought.

@RFresh41 Just because has won two times with a worts car to the kaiser, and never has been beaten by a team mate, just because he improved all the cars he drove, including hamiltons (and hamilton learned from him everything, copying all his strategys and methods), and just becausee all the drivers on the grid had agreed that. Its easy to win when you are hamilton and start racing in mclaren, you dont know what does mean to fight (like alonso hwo started in minardi)

@Mikefrusciante Please save the Hamilton hate. It's not any easier for Lewis Hamilton because he started in Mclaren and has remained there. Where does it say that it's mandatory for all rookies to start in a lower class team?? Lewis had great credentials to his name coming out of the lower "feeder" series and won the gp2 championship his first year, he earned his ride and has made the most of it same with Alonso however he went a different route to where he is now. Why bother with the past?

@jraybay It would never beat the Formula 1 car, thats just not possible. The F1 car has much more HP per kilogram, compared to the Veyron, its just too heavy. F1 cars accelerate much faster and their top speed is far over 400 km/h aswell. On the quarter mile, the Veyron had not a chance because of its weight. However, F1 Cars are made for drive on tracks, and not on a straight quarter mile. :)

@CwalkinZoom Well no the veyron did beat a formula 1 car actually it travelled 267 mph recently but achieved it's speed on pavement and ran more than a mile. The formula 1 car achieved almost full speed in like 3/4 of a mile. If the veyron could just wind itself up all day it would beat a formula 1 car in top speed. But a quarter mile yes the formula 1 car wins . The veyron doesnt face as much aero drag, open wheel drag, and the possibility of launching itself in the air.

@jraybay haha your mental... Michal schumacher himself said that a formula one car would do 500km/h plus if the mechanics adjusted the diff and wings and you just let it rev in a straight line.. The aerodynamics of a a road car do NOT compare to a formula one car... the veyron has like 4 times the cross sectional surface area.

@mpdp85 I could care less what Michael schumacher said, we're all quite aware that a f1 car could go faster but it's not as straight forward on a salt flat compared to the veyron running on pavement with much more grip which is what happened when they did their tests.

@jraybay Ahhahaa, The Veyron tops out at 406km/h... And takes the best part of a minute to get there....... An F1 car gets to 300km/h in 8.6 seconds... and gets to arround 360km/h in the space of about 10 seconds on some of the fastest tracks in the world. Do you not think that if you actually let it go in a straight line it would not get to 406+? If you think a veyron has any chance of beating an F1 car in acceleration OR top speed, you are delusional.

The veyron has only a slight horsepower advantage, is 4 times heavier, and can not match the f1 for aerodynamics, or gearing. NOT.A.CHANCE. .

Veyron owns F1 car for top speed with normal configuration since the F1 car is geared optimally for speed round a track, typically a top speed of 200mph before it bounces off the rev limiter. Acceleration is of more importance than top speed. Change the gearing and remove the rear wing and it's a different matter.

@Squawkerd depends what track though.. they have different configs for different tracks. if the car is configured for monza they easily hit 360+ in a matter of seconds, it's not that much of a stretch to do an extra 40kph with unlimited road avaliable but i take your point.

@Squawkerd yep. braking is as important as aceleration, and cornering is more important than both. formula one excels in all of those over veyron by a HUGE margin. it's not even funny. f1 makes any road car look like a budget weekend car when on track. they can achieve up to 3.5 lateral g's in cornering, while top tier road cars like enzo (which corners slightly better than veyron) gets only about 1g.
without the wings a f1 car could reach over 450km/h with ease, i read. on a 2 liter engine.

and for road cars "well above 1" actually floats around 1.3 and is very situational. still can't hold a candle to f1 cars and even karts get more G than that on corners :P
