  • crank the gain on this amp next time you make another demo of the engl gigmaster ,i may get the combo if it got tons of gain but 1 12ax7 in the pre amp hum ,but hybrid amps generate gain well with a solidstate power section ,

  • does this amp have tons of gain

  • Nice try. Sound great.

  • seriously, you have to practice more.

  • So.. This was only a quick recording with a crappy photocamera mic, I'd wanted be the first one.. In a few days/weeks there comes one with much better quality, hope you like that..

  • @LovingTheFooFighters how diffrent does this sound from my engl svage 120, looking to buy this for home practice or home recording on 1 watt or 5 watt?

  • Guys like you don't seem to understand shitty playing obscures the sound.Sorry

  • Hard to hear what's going on in the demo to be honest, but it definitely sounds like an ENGL.

How is the clean headroom? Is the amp a bit of a one trick pony or can you get some nice sounds fiddling with the EQ and gain?

  • How much does that amp cost?

  • @geicowithdagheko1 In North America it's $750 you could pick up a used Thunder or Screamer for that price

  • @bornburied Here in Europe it goes about some 500 euro's, not much for that amp.

  • @LovingTheFooFighters I guess you were responding to another gigmaster vidoe. The price for the head in NA is $750 -way too much.

  • @bornburied supposedly the Gigmaster is very good and it's price is more than reasonable for what it offers considering it still has the Engl tone and is half the price of just about any other amp they make with exception of the E530 rack mount

  • @brandon5pennies It has 1 preamp tube so the rest is modelling.ENGL's in general are overpriced considering the competition thats out there so sorry it's still not worth it.Your welcome to your own logic to rationalize your own spending though.

  • @bornburied

    sorry thats incorrect 'preamp ECC83S and poweramp 2 x EL84, '

    so its all tube.

  • @franki68 Try reading all the related comments to the person who I was addressing. My comment is directed to the preamp which is modeling. The power section is all tube that's it.

  • @bornburied

I did read all the comments,I still think that an ecc83s is a tube, hence the pre-amp is tube driven and not 'modelled'

this is off the engl spec 'the ECC83 (12AX7) tube produces a very warm and soft tone with plenty of punch in the preamp section and delivers a great distortion sound with rich sustain'

'15 Watts output power, 2 x EL84 power tubes delivers that specific very typical tonal character '

    So I am confused,why is an ecc83s not a tube ?

  • @franki68 As it reads the "ENGL spec" is a bit ambiguous and does not truly specify that the tube is used in the preamp.

One ECC 83/12AX7A in the preamp section would barely have any overdrive, but yet the amp has plenty of gain .Whats producing it then? Elves?

The tube is being used as the phase inverter for the EL-84's since they require strong current to be driven.
