I don't know. I think he wrote for a generation that is long dead. His philosophy of enthusiastic interest in others was well composed for the society in which he lived, but does it work for the more cynical and self-centered people of today, who do not have such a positive vision of society and their own futures? Does Dale's enthusiam strike modern Americans as naive? Is a certain amount of indifference needed to influence the egotistical modern American?

I can't listen to this voice, I can barely concentrate. To be fair you can buy this audio book on amazon or on CD for less than £15/$30. I chose to buy it.

This was a great idea, but it is difficult me to listen to. I feel like I have to focus as hard as I would if I just read the book. I can't listen to this while doing some homework or driving. I'm sorry but thank you anyway!

@thedragonknite007 i dont think that someone free and honest could be afraid of social situations (at least not much, noy in a insane way). If one is free, honest with one self, know that errors are part of life and is doing what he really like in life he doesnt care about theses things. Friends and other many things come naturally. And one cant win friends because friends are not prizes.In my opinion these advices are more part of the problem than part of the solution

Yesterday I bought the book Pathways to Success ( a combined edition of How to win friends & Influence people and How to stop worrying & start living)

And after only reading the first 20 pages I must say it is pretty good. :) Gotta get back to reading.

@BookSharer I think putting computer voice to this is great . I got so used to listening to the real voice in car that i miss stuff... I guess it was difficult to write so much but maybe u learned by writting... i am thinking to translate this into my language too:) . Do you still have it text format ?

@jruizdemena I think you will find that is the whole point, to b free and honest. But we also all grow up in a vicious world which effects our perceptions of reality and so can distort our out look. Anyone with ulterior motives will be found out soon enough. We can see good works, so we choose good, it's testimonial. Like less stress improves your DNA peptides (from decaying).

@jruizdemena actually perhaps a third, that we have them naturally if we are like that, but with the evidence that it is the best way to be as well. For the fakers, they will be found out, and will lose out in the end, even if they might have a short term gain, till they are found out.

@jruizdemena some people are actually free and honest but incredibly afraid of social situations, this is perfect for people like that. It gives people the confidence they otherwise wouldn't have, and believe me, being socially awkward and afraid is an incredibly bad problem and can lead to things like depression and financial troubles.

@coldworld5 yet so many others appreciate it. It is matter of getting used to the voice. If the accent is far different from your native voice you will have difficulty, like any new accent. This sounds very clear to me and others. Listen to it till it makes sense, and give your mind permission to learn, and it will work for you.

it's creepy to hear a computer voice....

but you get used to it. With over 30 years in computers, this is the best voice I have heard about a year or so ago. It does have it's flaws, but we can work those out with our intelligence as we get used to page numbers etc. Much of this is done automatically, so it only requires a few hours of my time. TO make it perfect would not be realistic as the time taken to prelisten etc... I hope you enjoy them as many have. Just remember it will become second nature if keep an open mind to hear.
