Between gophers and parry dogs, why do people use such high caliber weapons, beside for longer shooting, I just think it's a little too much fire power to take out such a small animal.

@richgator1 find prov. land or a farmer with fields and ask if they have gophers and then ask if you can hunt (email is really easy to start a dialogue and if they are fools then its a no lose :) ) it helps to be very formal and open about everything you want to do the guns you want to shoot your WIN# your PAL# blah blah. im in the process myself at the moment but I live in calgary lol. good luck!

This Gopher calculation, Paying around, I figured that you would have to kill between nature and man approx 8,000 Gophers over a period of 10 years JUST to end up with the original 50 Gophers that you started with. with these pests i dont think it matters much, but when you get into larger game i prefer a compound bow. i feel a good hunt is more than pulling a trigger. you need to get out there and stalk, to get familiar with the animal you are hunting. it gives you massive respect for the animal, and it also gives you a huge sense of accomplishment after taking game that youve worked so hard to stalk and shoot. give it a try. its definitely worth it.
how much rise do you get out of the 55 grain bullet in your model 70. when i tried that load i had about a 6 inch rise from 50 to 100 and about a 12 inch rise at 200.
In Alberta, if you have gophers, you will also have badgers. The badgers really destroy a field with their digging. I shoot a tremendous amount of gophers and get paid very well by farmers. Usually use a .22 rimfire CZ but when the females are pregnant in the spring I use a 222 or 220Swift to eradicate as many as possible. She will have from 5 to 12 pups so get them before they whelp.

answers to the questions: 22's are not as fun I reload so its not that bad and it's great fun twice a year. The pigeons shit on everything and carry alot of disease. And there are too many pigeons at this secret location.

in the first year, 1/2 of these gophers have 2 litters of 6 gophers
Each consecutive year, 1/2 of the previous year’s population has 2 litters of 6
BUT, during EACH year; 50% of the year-end total will die (either by illness of from other predators) AND another 25% will be killed by man
In ten years, how many gophers will there be.
