If I happened to apply your logic to let's say the Armenian civilization then I could accredit Armenia of being even older then its known to be. And take credit for the invention of the chariot, sickle, and other Hittite accomplishments. Seeing as how the Hittites fully assimilated with the Armenia by the 7th century BC, that would give Armenia the right to consider themselves as the descendants of the Hittite civilization.

"Azerbaijan" was a name given to the region not to identify an ethnic peoples living there, but to simply name the region. First of all, just because there are ancient caved cities in Azerbaijan does not make you an ancient civilization, for you are not descended nor directly (culturally, linguistically) related to those people. Let me give you an example: Let's say a people from say ummmmm.... I duno maybe Mongolia, migrate to the Italian peninsula and erase the Italian identity.
