This video really demonstrates how difficult it can be to see a tsunami coming at you. It's no wonder so many people are killed by them when there is no warning. I mean, if you're looking for some big wave out there, you're dead before you realize where the danger is actually coming from.

Tsunamis aren't just big waves. They're dangerous because the water just keeps coming like a flooding river, sometimes for many minutes.

Yeah, the tsunami "wave" in this video is probably only 8 or 9 ft. In other areas like Khao Lak the wave was 33ft and it came in as a big breaking wave. And of course people aren't stupid - they were all at beach resorts and most of the dead were good swimmers. The water just moves too fast and is full of too much debris. In other areas the waves were 100ft high - its easy to understand how people died there.

There is one clip on here everyone must see titled "Tsunami Thailand (Koh Phi Phi) - 2004" by YT user Karpalain. It is shot from one side of the hotel where there was a tidal surge. The Tsunami actually hit on BOTH sides of the hotel! People ran from the tidal surge for safety, only to run into a 30 meter high deadly rushing wall of water coming from the beach on the other side, where 700 people were killed instantly.
