I've never seen him playing live, but I've always dreamed to play some of his songs. He is a legend, and as soon as he'll come to Berlin, or as soon the wind blows me off to Great Britain, I go to see him. I should have done this with Bert Jansch as well, but as he had died last year in October, there'll be no chance anymore. Better holding up a lighter in a concert than putting a candle in the window … Gordon, you are one of the voices of my life, I like your style and I want you to know it!
I saw him play a few times over the years and I saw him play at Thornbury near Bristol a few years ago and he was playing one of his other pieces that he plays like this using loop effects and different sounds and I spoke to him after the g...ig and suggested that he use a Line 6 variax guitar to get the different sounds that he needed and he said that he owned one but had never thought of using it for this purpose and I just found this on youtube, looks like he took up my suggestion
WOW! truly inspiring piece..Anyone knows the tuning of the guitar or is it standard tuning? I'm seeing Gordon in 3 days at a theater here in Malta.. really looking forward to it!
The Variax is plugged into a Boss Loop Station RC20 and a Boss ME-50. It then goes through a Yamaha Mixer to a Passport 150 PA. The 1st patch is acoustic, 2nd is reverse delay to sound like strings, 3rd acoustic, 4th octave +1 to give high pitch, 5th octave -1 to give bass effect, 6th processed overdriven guitar. The timing track is played first to give the timing for the whole piece, this is done with a delay as shown. Hope this helps

A magic YouTube moment. Watch it once and put your guitar on eBay,or watch it twice and be inspired.

It is in standard tuning using various ME50 voicings and a RC20 loop station. See 'BOBGCW' below...
