I am an atheist & I don't see anything wrong with athletes doing prayers publicly. Who are we to tell people whether they should pray publicly or not? This is a free country and faith or lack of it is a personal choice. He's taking that bible verse completely out of context. "Shut thy door and pray to thy father in secret" Meaning close your eyes, bow your head, and have a personal conversation with God. No one else. If Tebow was praying in front of a microphone every Sunday than this verse would be relevant.

If any of these guys who (for some reason are asked for input on this subject) actually watch football (both college and NFL), Tim Tebow isn't the only player that prays on the sidelines and in the endzone. I think you could attack a large majority of the players in the NFL for praying or pointing to the sky after a big play. Hence my reference toward The Crusades etc. In order to partake in the horrendous torture that took place in those movements, you need the sincere belief in what you are doing is right, despite the immoral, disgusting nature of it. This shows how little people people actually know about religion. If Tebow is praying for a touchdown he is praying for the wrong thing. The bible plainly says he will not help you with things you have the ability to accomplish on your own. Clearly Tewbow has plenty of ability to throw his own touchdowns. God is not going to grant the team a miracle touchdown. But praying for things like being strong in difficult situations makes sense.

If any of these guys who (for some reason are asked for input on this subject) actually watch football (both college and NFL), Tim Tebow isn't the only player that prays on the sidelines and in the endzone. I think you could attack a large majority of the players in the NFL for praying or pointing to the sky after a big play. Second thing is, God Forbid an NFL player set a good example for the kids that look up to him. Tebow is ONE of the most unselfish players I have ever seen in the NFL.

Lewis Black put it best: "If it's going to be the funniest joke in the world, it's got to piss a whole lot of people off -- preferably billions of them." So yes, you can say that Maher was trying to be offensive, but only because he was mainly trying to be funny, and offensiveness is usually part and parcel of that.
