It's from the "One Hand Clapping" sessions, isn't it? However, that's a nice version of the song. I really like it! ( I think it's even a bit better than the original version...)
Personal opinion - Wings' use of the Moog was probably one of the most subtle and tasteful ever. Don't get me wrong - I like ELP and Yes' use of ittoo - love prog rock - but I really love how it was used on Band on the Run. I listen to this over and over and over.
Paul never allowed people to stray from what was on the record, thats why Henry McCullough quit. Mccartney wanted perfection (though that doesn't explain why Linda played keyboards)
I think the sol sounds pretty cool- and Jimmy was a good guitarist with Wings. I doubt many people Jimmy's age could be that creatvie and skilled- he was only 21 and had no real lessons he just go out there and worked with some of the greatest musicians and when he did they got hits
There are a few licks in this song I never heard Chuck Berry play.
The guy plays better than most of those who nit pick could manage. And we ALL know it. So let's shut up or put up eh? If you can do better, let's hear it.
I don't get what you mean, powergirl. Can you elaborate?I've always loved the solo, too. I am musically inept, no ability at all, but I wanted so badly to play this solo.
@MrJetfire59 I wanted to play this solo as well, but didn't have the ability. Still I want to tell people that it is simple in a good way. I am just neutral about the whole issue. I love really complex things like for example Hendrix's Villanova Junction instrumental...but don't have enough years left in my life to learn those guitar improvs in that song. But here, just stating my years of thinking about it.
@openroad88 exactly. The solo is something that could've been played in the early Beatles even, but doesn't require anything more than mastering the most early, basic rock sounds...doesn't mean it's bad or not worth doing at all...just food for thought.

ha....tasty soul bits on the lead if you don't understand the brilliance of the late
Jimmy' McCulloch's playing ya simply don't like true rock n roll.

This is brilliant!

For all of you non-players and obsessive critics: There ain't NOTHING wrong with that solo.
If you think there IS, you are simply a fool who fails to understand the conventions of Europeon pop music.

Hey let's not diss the guitar solo... not the most technical ever .. but oh so tasty and fits the song so well... in other words damn near perfect.

@wightvanman Right on, right on!!

@wightvanman its a bit sad that people seem to think that music is 'better' if its faster and more technical..
not the least when it comes to guitar playing.

Oh yeah, the solo is fantantastic, but once you master a few rock fundamentals, the techniques involved are first lesson Chuck Berry.
It doesn't make me like it any less, I was describing a first hearing in 1975 all the way to now and my opinion.

I wanted to play this guitar solo so bad when I was kid, but now as an adult I realize that it is a classic bunch of riffs all put together.

@powergirl901 It's still tasty as hell though. It's not how many notes you can jam in a measure but how they fit the song and relate to each other.
