Yes!We must let the Bible explain itself. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed with everlasting, or eternal, fire (Jude 7), and that fire turned them "into ashes" as a warning to "those that after should live ungodly." 2 Peter 2:6. These cities are not burning today. The fire went out after everything was burned up. Likewise, everlasting fire will go out after it has turned the wicked to ashes (Malachi 4:3).

Doesn't Matthew 25:46 say the wicked will receive "everlasting punishment"? (Matthew 25:46)
Notice the word is punishment, not punishing. Punishing would be continuous, while punishment is one act. The punishment of the wicked is death, and this death is everlasting.

Unquenchable fire is fire that cannot be put out, but which goes out when it has turned everything to ashes. Jeremiah 17:27 says Jerusalem was to be destroyed with unquenchable fire, and in 2 Chronicles 36:19-21 the Bible says this fire burned the city "to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah" and left it desolate. Yet we know this fire went out, because Jerusalem is not burning today.
Isn't the work of destroying sinners foreign to God's nature?
"As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die?" The "eternal hell of torment" theory originated not from the Bible, but from misguided people who were (perhaps inadvertently) led of the devil. And, incidentally, no one will be in heaven because he feared hell. People are saved because they love and obey Christ.
An eternal hell of torment would perpetuate sin and make its eradication impossible. An eternal hell of torment is not part of God's great plan at all. Such a horrible theory is slander against the holy name of a loving God. The devil delights to see our loving Creator pictured as such a monstrous tyrant, and he alone can benefit from such teachings.
The Bible uses "Gehenna" or the "Valley of Hinnom" as a symbol of the fire that will destroy the lost at the end of time. The fire of Gehenna was not unending. Otherwise it would be still burning southwest of Jerusalem today. Neither will the fire of hell be unending.

xgalba00, get over yourself. Demons were once angels, but they rebelled against God. God created Hell, which was originally simply a punishment for demons. Yes, that means that Satan is not the true ruler over Hell; God Himself is. It wasn't until after the sin in the Garden of Eden that humans against God were to send themselves to Hell as well. I emphasize the point again: God doesn't "send" people to Hell, unbelievers who've many times heard God's Word do it just fine on their own.
xgalba00, you can limit your list to simply Lucifer (aka Satan, aka the Devil, etc.) and the hordes of demons (fallen angels) which followed him in his rebellion against the holy throne of God, and therefore were cast down. These beings were not created "to assist you in eternal Hell". Demons suffer in Hell every bit as much as the souls of man. Just as it is due unrepentant sinners to suffer the eternal judgment of God, it too is due those fallen angels, as both have rebelled against Him.

It denotes an eternal separation from God while undergoing the eternal wrath of God as justice for offending an eternally good God. Jude 7 is describing the ferocity which which God's judgment falls on the unregenerate. What makes you think that all the verses dealing with eternal fire, and wailing and gnashing of teeth, etc are anything less than literal?

Because that's the perfect justification, isn't it. What "loving" being is so tyrannical as to punish eternally those that don't believe in him. I'm not perfect, yet I myself would forgive them on grounds of ignorance. To say that he is, and that punishing is better than my method is the perfect defense, and you only say those things because it says so in the Bible. @zekls1 Yes. As long as you have allowed Jesus Christ to save you, no amount of sins can keep you away from Him. However, the apostle Paul points out that this doesn't give us freedom to sin whenever we want. Granted, we will make mistakes, but we are not excused from at least trying to do God's will.

Except for one thing; God never approved of any action related to the Crusades, which was an inexcusable and horrible event that contradicted God's Word. Therefore, any killing done by a bunch of fools who dared to call themselves "Christians" was not any fault of God. The church can be faulty, not God.

Secondly, what you need to understand is that all men, you included, have offended God, as we have utterly rebelled against Him. God is the perfect Judge, therefore MUST pass judgment upon the guilty, lest He be a corruptible Judge. When Jesus Christ died, He took upon Himself the judgment from those who follow Him. Outside of Jesus all that is left is the wrath of God

No, indeed! It is simply a parable used to emphasize a point. Many facts make it clear that this is a parable. A few are as follows:
A. Abraham's bosom is not heaven (Hebrews 11:8-10, 16).
B. People in hell can't talk to those in heaven (Isaiah 65:17).

Yes!We must let the Bible explain itself. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed with everlasting, or eternal, fire (Jude 7), and that fire turned them "into ashes" as a warning to "those that after should live ungodly." 2 Peter 2:6. These cities are not burning today. The fire went out after everything was burned up. Likewise, everlasting fire will go out after it has turned the wicked to ashes (Malachi 4:3).

Unquenchable fire is fire that cannot be put out, but which goes out when it has turned everything to ashes. Jeremiah 17:27 says Jerusalem was to be destroyed with unquenchable fire, and in 2 Chronicles 36:19-21 the Bible says this fire burned the city "to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah" and left it desolate. Yet we know this fire went out, because Jerusalem is not burning today.

It was used many times in the Old Testament for people or events that did not last eternally. Like being a servant forever, Jonah felt he was in the great fish forever, Samuel serving the temple forever or the rest of his life. A loving God does not torment the wicked for eternity. The bible says the wages of sin is DEATH.

xgalba00, get over yourself. Demons were once angels, but they rebelled against God. God created Hell, which was originally simply a punishment for demons. Yes, that means that Satan is not the true ruler over Hell; God Himself is. It wasn't until after the sin in the Garden of Eden that humans against God were to send themselves to Hell as well. I emphasize the point again: God doesn't "send" people to Hell, unbelievers who've many times heard God's Word do it just fine on their own.

xgalba00, you can limit your list to simply Lucifer (aka Satan, aka the Devil, etc.) and the hordes of demons (fallen angels) which followed him in his rebellion against the holy throne of God, and therefore were cast down. These beings were not created "to assist you in eternal Hell". Demons suffer in Hell every bit as much as the souls of man. Just as it is due unrepentant sinners to suffer the eternal judgment of God, it too is due those fallen angels, as both have rebelled against Him.

It denotes an eternal separation from God while undergoing the eternal wrath of God as justice for offending an eternally good God. Jude 7 is describing the ferocity which which God's judgment falls on the unregenerate. What makes you think that all the verses dealing with eternal fire, and wailing and gnashing of teeth, etc are anything less than literal?

If hell is real, and eternal, and painful, theoretically would it not be the greatest sacrifice possibly imaginable if one person could single handedly wipe out the human race thereby preventing any more souls from entering hell? Because that's the perfect justification, isn't it. What "loving" being is so tyrannical as to punish eternally those that don't believe in him. I'm not perfect, yet I myself would forgive them on grounds of ignorance. To say that he is, and that punishing is better than my method is the perfect defense, and you only say those things because it says so in the Bible. If the Bible really is the word of God, of course he's going to portray himself in a good light!

However, the apostle Paul points out that this doesn't give us freedom to sin whenever we want. Granted, we will make mistakes, but we are not excused from at least trying to do God's will.

Hell is for those who trun from him and have chosen darkness and exile over his guideance and love. A self imposed Hell, if you will. I think that believers have closed mind. But their minds will expand in this century. In 2050 when they will ride space elevator to the orbit, they will personally find out that there is no space daddy or angels - naked men with wings in the sky.
Also prolonging of our lifes through genetics, creating of artificial life via nanotechnology will change their mind.
Zeitgeist is moving slowly but moving.
No need for alien ancient god when we can brilliantly explain everything by our human science

So lemme get this straight, God will throw me in Hell forever just because I didn't wanna follow some stupid strict rules about marriage and sex? That's absurd. I thought as a spirit you fly, move fast, teleport, be powerful, do anything; so why would you be powerless in Hell, and why would end up there without actually trying to get there?
None of it makes any sense, unless God deliberatley sets it up that way, FORCING you there unless you accept him.

There is no spirit or soul going from your body after you die or any other magic tricks which generate money for sellers of books dealing with horoscopes, spirituality, afterdeath experiencies and bibles.
Chemical bonds in your brain cease to exist and the impulses of trillions of neurons stop working without oxygen, shutting your so called soul faster then your computer. Many atoms become free after it to create new chemical bonds. Same is with animals and plants - no soul magic.

@alex16091988 The Crusades were a stupid human mistake. They had nothing to do with Christianity because God said "Thou shalt not murder." This isn't God's fault; WE made that mistake.

@reaperman2010 i didn't say god was to blame for the crusades but they killed in his name so he partially is to blame but mostly the church is..... thing is humans cannot comprehend a god that does not take sides and judge people until we can stop judging the people around us. I think that we were created to be free but most people do not understand what freedom means and focus just on themselves and usually don't care about everyone else, until we change this there will always be hatred and war

Except for one thing; God never approved of any action related to the Crusades, which was an inexcusable and horrible event that contradicted God's Word. Therefore, any killing done by a bunch of fools who dared to call themselves "Christians" was not any fault of God. The church can be faulty, not God.

Secondly, what you need to understand is that all men, you included, have offended God, as we have utterly rebelled against Him. God is the perfect Judge, therefore MUST pass judgment upon the guilty, lest He be a corruptible Judge. When Jesus Christ died, He took upon Himself the judgment from those who follow Him. Outside of Jesus all that is left is the wrath of God
