great cover man! dude have u any idea of how to play this song on guitar bu make it sound like your mandolin?? iv got a guitar but no mandolin, and im in love with everything about this song.....if youve any idea be greatly appreciated!
@shanleman Yeah, on acoustic guitar I play a G chord and on the 2nd string go from D to C# to C to B. The chorus/bridge is C / Am (alternating E to G on the first string). Does that make sense?
@Stocky76 ok so you start with a G chord, then move the finger on the 2nd string up to the d string for the second chord, play c# down at the fourth fret, back up for the c chord and then the b chord? then for the the chorus/bridge im not really sure, are you playing a c chord or am?? sorry dude im a complete novice, appreciate the help!
@shanleman When I say D, C#, C and B I'm talking about notes, not chords. The first chord is a G with your third finger on the second string on the third fret (G/D). Then G/C# - a G chord but with your first finger on the second string on the second fret. Then G/C - a G chord but with your first finger on the second string on the 1st fret. Then a normal G (with an open B note on the second string).
For the bridge/chorus it's two 4/4 bars of C and then two 4/4 bars of Am.
@Stocky76 got it i think! seriously appreciate taking the time to help me out man, cheers! check out 'set list' - live album by the frames from a few years back, reckon you'd like it. Best Irish live rock album ever.
The Birthday Party have a different song called The Hair Shirt, from their 1980 self-titled album (It is by The Boys Next Door but was later reissued under the name The Birthday Party). The song is on the Hee Haw EP from 1980 and as part of a full-length compilation (also called Hee Haw) of The Birthday Party's earlier work released in 1988.
its a great song ! the held note on "Waaaaaaaves of conversation" is astounding ! very similar to the "vibraaaaaate" on the rufus wainwright song called ... er... "vibrate" . This cover version is shit tho !
I wonder if the original has been posted here? I miss this on the radio, my cd broke when I used my sister's carrying case. Ugh. been scouring manila just to find a cd of this album green
I understand. POP Song 89. Wow. Not to mention that even if the CD doesnt' sound as good as the cassette (sorry that was long ago I got to compare) the vivacity and verve, wow, I can cry and dance with that one there. The only other songs that touch are Superman, Nightswimming, Leaving, and even Half the world away. Orange Crush and wait, my ancient memory is getting rusty and won't move...
Automatic For The People is the common one and that's fair enough - I'd give it a close second. It's just that many detest Green. Maybe they think it's when they sold out or something. Green is in Kurt Cobain's Top 50 albums and I think it lead the way to alternative yet major label albums like Nevermind.
I know that is 100000 times harder than it looks. Congratulations.
