That might be the best promo I've ever heard. Taz was to scary and angry what Flair was to cocky and funny. The FTW angle might have been the best thing ever done in wrestling.

And even though it's all a show, Taz was right. He had more technical ability than everybody he called out, and he probably would have whipped somebody's ass for real if he wanted to.

Truth about Taz: Taz was looking for an outlet from wrestling because of his mounting injuries. He could not/nor wanted to compete a normal wwe schedule, nor was he BIG enough star to be allowed an leniency. Thus enter the world of commentating. Awful or wrestler or not, a lot of the creative team wanted Taz to have the belt and even Vince McMahon regretted his decision to not book him at least once(during the whole business fiasco with ecw/wcw) with the world title.

Actually its true. During that time certain members of the staff wanted smaller guys to get over, so fans would except them as legitimate main event attractions. If memory serves correct it was Taz, Kurt Angle and someone else who were in talks. Obviously Kurt Angle got the run, but Taz was in talks among circles. Paul Heyman was irrelevant at time, considering the fact he just had business relationship with Vince McMahon at the time and not a direct employee of WWE.

Taz was in New York (his home town) when he debuted and Kurt Angle was playing a chicken shit heel. After his debut, fan interest diminished.
