@jettadude736 yep, Kevin Nash booked himself to end Goldberg's streak and become World champ then booked Hogan to beat him for the belt a week later
12 months later, Chris Benoit, Booker T, Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner, Sting, DDP, Bret Hart, Macho Man and Sid Vicious had held the belt though since Hogan's win in the Fingerpoke of Doom incident (which i still personally think is more entertaining than Foley's first World title win in WWF that same night)
Hear me out: Had Ronnie Magro not been occupied with Jersey Shore, I could really envision him as the next Taz! Think of it: built like a brickhouse, knocks people out with one shot, deadly stare. It all adds up!
@DreDaDon16 you can diss the others you named, but AA Arn Anderson u can't diss bra. because of AA and his shoot on bobby eaton is why this guy can do what he is doing in this video.
Hogan even in his prime couldn't hang with Taz. I honestly wished WWE didn't ruin him. I know his neck injuries forced him to retire but i honestly believe Taz should have been a World Champion in WWE/F.
i don't remember this one besides ppv i didn't get to see ecw untill 99 but watched the ppv from 96 on and taz was my hero, i even tried to wrestle to be like him but got hurt bad( torn a stomach muscle picking a guy up) but i was built the same big legs strong back and hiPs but ya he was very inspirational and his wrestling was even better thaN HIS PROMO'S , wasn't all talk. ftw
That might be the best promo I've ever heard. Taz was to scary and angry what Flair was to cocky and funny. The FTW angle might have been the best thing ever done in wrestling.
And even though it's all a show, Taz was right. He had more technical ability than everybody he called out, and he probably would have whipped somebody's ass for real if he wanted to.
im not exagerating or over reacting when i say this...that had to be the fucking best promo i have ever seen in my life and in wrestling history...taz was the shit and he still is the shit
I have to agree with everyone that this is the one of the best wrestling promos. It even beats the nonsensical Ultimate Warrior promos lol. If ECW was still around and I mean the real ECW I would watch wrestling again. Mcmahon really shit the bed on that one.
Truth about Taz: Taz was looking for an outlet from wrestling because of his mounting injuries. He could not/nor wanted to compete a normal wwe schedule, nor was he BIG enough star to be allowed an leniency. Thus enter the world of commentating. Awful or wrestler or not, a lot of the creative team wanted Taz to have the belt and even Vince McMahon regretted his decision to not book him at least once(during the whole business fiasco with ecw/wcw) with the world title.
@xgooglex This is really a moronic statement. Nobody in WWF wanted to give Taz a run with a world title ever. With the exception of Paul Heyman of course. You are a moron if you think otherwise.
Actually its true. During that time certain members of the staff wanted smaller guys to get over, so fans would except them as legitimate main event attractions. If memory serves correct it was Taz, Kurt Angle and someone else who were in talks. Obviously Kurt Angle got the run, but Taz was in talks among circles. Paul Heyman was irrelevant at time, considering the fact he just had business relationship with Vince McMahon at the time and not a direct employee of WWE.
God I fucking miss the real tazz! Going to wwe was a mistake cause they bitched him out! I was a hulkamanic as a kid but no way in hell can he fuck with tazz!
@KruelAidMan wake up, you clown. wrestlings a performance art. it wasnt just Taz's size. it was due to the fact that in ECW, he was protected. In WWF he was shown to have very little talent. In ECW he used dangerous suplexes and submissions that relied on his opponents doing 90% of the work. In the WWF the likes of the Rock, Austin and Undertaker werent going to bump for this little orange cunt. you might not like it, but its fact.
@KruelAidMan lol i ironic thing about that post is I'm about 7 inches bigger than Taz so I wouldnt have to act the big man around him. Also, he's an awful wrestler. Always was. And the way you talk is hilarious. You type like a wrestling commentator. Stop being a mark.
You type like a wrestling commentator, because your using cliched little soundbites such as "did Taz choke you out". You do know this shit is a work, and that Taz hasnt choked anyone out in his life? And im sure he'd freely admit that his commentating career surpassed his wrestling career by a million miles. he earns a nice sum and has actually commentated longer than he ever wrestled.
@ianhitman Yeah 'cause something lasting for longer means that it's better by default. It's totally not like Taz retired young due to injuries or anything.
@KruelAidMan get your facts straight. Taz didnt retire due to injury. He got told by WWE in 2000 to become an announcer. he was still wrestling on and off for a few years while he announced. he even held the tag belts with Spike just before the brand extention. And of course if your a constant draw with amazing longevity, your better. because that means people are willing to continue to buy into you. but since you a blithering idiot who eats internet bullshit.
@ianhitman So I guess that Jesse Ventura must've also retired to become an announcer rather than because of medical inability to wrestle, since he commentated, then wrestled a few more matches before becoming a full-time commentator.
Taz tried out commentary while he was too injured to wrestle full-time. When he realised he was too injured to wrestle anymore, he became a full-time commentator.
And that last statement of yours isn't even a sentence, you grammatically-deficient waste of cells.
@KruelAidMan why do you continue to make things up? Taz debuted on the announcers desk in 2000 and was commentating on and off until he went full time in 2002. The Ventura comparison makes no sense because he was a big star before he became an announcer. Taz became an announcer because he wouldnt be classed as an independent contractor and would be offered a better contract struture than a wrestler would. But your such a mark for this little bingo hall abysmal wrestler, that your blind to it.
@ianhitman I'm totally sure that if Taz had never gotten injured he would've chosen to retire in his early 30s. Yep. He wanted to become a commentator that much.
And why don't you go froth over Cena & Orton, those talented "big stars" who never wreslted in a bingo hall?
@KruelAidMan do you not understand? when your under contract to vince mcmahon, and he tells you he has no plans as regards to you as a wrestler, and he asks you to become a commentator, you do it. it's common knowledge that WWF buried him and put him on the announce desk. Taz went from being a midget wrestling infront of 1000 people once a month to earning a high 6 figure salary and calling wrestlemania main events. i know which i'd rather be.
Taz was an amazing promo. He doesn't really get his props in the big time wrestling picture, but he was so real in his promos. He and Heyman were an awesome duo.
From a 1990-2000 time frame, their was five people, who were gods on the mic. They are Flair, The Rock, Austin, HBK, Mick Foley, Taz, Scott Hall, Nash, Hogan, and Scott Steiner. They were awesome. Would you agree?
@lettersfromaboy - That's 10 people, not 5. And you forgot about Arn Anderson. I would put him above half the people you mentioned. When AA talked, you listened. And he didn't have to raise his voice to get his point across.
@JKTube well, why did they put him on the announcing desk in 2000, he returned in 2001, they put him back on during the Alliance angle in 2001, then he returned to team with Spike Dudley in 2002. They put him on the desk because his gimmick wasnt believable in the WWF. Nobody saw him as a badass because of his size and indy level gimmick. And he couldnt cut a big time promo. Tazz only retired because an announcer is a WWE employee and not an independent contractor. He makes more money announcing
@ianhitman Taz retired for good because of neck surgery. He had injuries mounting up prior to that, so they reduced his ring time by making him a commentator.
They put him on commentary because nobody believed in his character?? Nobody blinked an eye when Taz gave Kurt Angle his first loss. Look up Taz's WWE debut, and listen to the crowd chant "WE WANT TAZ!". Size doesn't matter.

They put him on commentary because nobody believed in his character?? Nobody blinked an eye when Taz gave Kurt Angle his first loss. Look up Taz's WWE debut, and listen to the crowd chant "WE WANT TAZ!". Size doesn't matter.
@mankyller was put on the announce team long before he retired. Taz was tag team champions with Spike Dudley after he was originally put on the announce desk. Taz was in New York (his home town) when he debuted and Kurt Angle was playing a chicken shit heel. After his debut, fan interest diminished. You actually think anyone on the planet would take a little dwarf like Taz making Steve Austin submit in 1999? No chance.
@ianhitman No announcer, with the possible exception of Jim Ross, makes more money than Taz did wrestling for WWE. I don't think you clearly understand what an independent contractor is. Furthermore, to suggest that Taz is an awful wrestler is idiotic. To say that he can't cut a great promo in light of the very video that you are commenting on is even more so. You are a fucking moron.
@jewggerz 1) a wrestler has to control the position of his bump, not the other way around so your completely wrong on that point. 2) Tazz is working for a small promotion who doesnt draw any PPV buys meaning he doesnt get any PPV royalities or residuals. Michael Cole, Striker and Lawler make more money than him off video game royalities, so again ur fuckin clueless 3)history proved that outside 1000 people in a bingo hall Taz wasnt taken seriously. a midget pretending it was real didnt get over.
