The only explaination for the drop in animation quality I can think of is for this battle was that it was so epic, the animators couldn't animate it properly in time for the release of the episode and had to release test animations for the fight instead.
As an animator, I think things got goofy at some places, but really, it wasn't all that bad. It was high octane, fast and snappy. This fight was supposed to be a messy, wild, uncontrolled affair, which I think the animators communicated rather well. In terms of animation principles, how else are you going to display speed without excessive amounts of motion blur, or the overused speed lines? Maybe this fight was too messy, but hardly a fail.

Efficiently showed his speed? I've shown this to an animation student who in turn showed it to his teacher: both were appalled by this thing. When you want to show skin being effected by g-forces, have the skin wave/wobble a bit: don't have the entire structure of the head warping to inhuman proportions

Yelling, in a figurative way, that you've gone through worse than someone who wants to murder you isn't human...? He said the line in the manga too, only now he says it with anger and defiance. Apart from the crappy animation and childish "Do you hate me?" and screaming, I think it would have been an improvement over the manga. That's just my opinion though.
I think they intended the animation to be this blurry, since it represents the fight between the animalistic form of naruto and pein, who's basing actions off his struggle in life.

i dont know why but i loved this episode beyond comparison! In fact i looved the crazy looney tune animations i think they depicted the "epicness" and massiveness of the coliding forces in the best possible way. And is good how pain would ruin his coolness if the message was to be passed.

Personally, apart from the animation, I'm glad they made Pein less stoic. He becomes more like a human being with depth, than some emotionless robot. What's the point of calling him "Pein" then?

Yelling, in a figurative way, that you've gone through worse than someone who wants to murder you isn't human...? He said the line in the manga too, only now he says it with anger and defiance. Apart from the crappy animation and childish "Do you hate me?" and screaming, I think it would have been an improvement over the manga. That's just my opinion though.

I think they intended the animation to be this blurry, since it represents the fight between the animalistic form of naruto and pein, who's basing actions off his struggle in life.

@Caidezes Ya know you should be grateful that the animators slave in the studio all day and are able to put episodes of naruto up for us every week instead of saying that the animation is bad it's the same animation used last episode when hinata fought pain.

i dont know why but i loved this episode beyond comparison! In fact i looved the crazy looney tune animations i think they depicted the "epicness" and massiveness of the coliding forces in the best possible way. And is good how pain would ruin his coolness if the message was to be passed.
