I'm glad the Mayor recognizes that part of what draws people to SF is the arts--let us also recognize that art plays a vital role in the life of every San Franciscan--often even more vital in the lives of those who are poor and oppressed. Art, to paraphrase Audre Lorde, is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Please support community arts programs that feed the souls of those who need it most--and that give a voice to those who have few other means to express themselves.
I love art. But don't think it should come out of public funds. San Francisco is the most "Nanny State" place I've ever lived.

In addition to contributing to the public good, public art projects also provide important professional opportunities for artists.
