  • Wow! Fantastic Vid. If you take my favorite artist and have him play and sing with my favorite Bruce song, with Bruce Springsteen, this is what you get!! I wonder if Jackson is the "Dude from L.A." in that '69 Chevy?? Thank you!

  • The Boss and the Pretender- both are awesome musicians in their own right-and the backing musicians here are also quite talented. Browne and Springsteen have had a long and happy friendship and musical history together- and hopefully will continue to do so for many many more years.

  • Missing only Warren Zevon and all my heroes would be on that stage!

A fantastic video! Long live Jackson and Bruce!

  • two of my favorite people bruce and jackson

  • Bruce, Jackson, and Roy all all very wonderful musicians in their own ways, and you don't see them judging each other, so why should we compare them unfairly? I respect all 3 of them and many other musicians, whether I like their music or versions of songs or not.

  • The magnifisence of this performance is boundless. Jackson and Bruce is a perfect match brilliant. And i adore the perfection of proffessor Roy bittans piano. there is no other word for it: it is absolutely Exquisid

  • The West Coast meets the East Coast, like "Two-Lane Blacktop" a movie that a Springsteen once mentioned shares a kindred spirit to this song, seeing Browne and Springsteen on stage together singing this song, it is Hellman's Movie beautifully encapsulated, where two drivers race from California to the East.

  • Aww...my two favorite fellas :D

  • This song always sounded like one Jackson Brown could have written.

  • The Professor......really shines bright in this song.

  • Wonderfull

  • "I got famous for writting songs about cars and girls. That ain't much to talk about."

  • Bruce and Jackson make an awesome team

  • Jackson wrote a song for /about Bruce called "For a Rocker"..here Jackson smoked a five-pound joint before he came onstage ; }

  • Nice version.

  • 2004... amazing. The last time I saw Springsteen was in the late '80s. And it was incredible (do I really need to say that?) Just the best show(s) I'd ever seen. We went back three nights in a row. And I've seen a lot of bands. What amazes me is that this show looks like it might have been just as good.

  • 僕の青春のヒーローが二人で「Racing in the street」を唄ってる。それだけで感動ものだ。この唄を聞くたびに僕は青春の終わりを感じたあの日を思い出す。涙なしには聞けない、見れない。

  • wow...i love this song...nd jackson browne is perfect 4 it

  • great piano

  • rip danny we love you

  • we're going fuckin racing in the fuckin street !

  • I was there... it was a magical night!

  • This is a quite nice version. However, the Emmylou Harris version is absolutely heart wrenching.

  • @stanslater1 Patty Griffin does an amazing version as well.

I really like Jackson Browne, I grew up listening to both him and Springsteen, but he just seems so uncomfortable...really stiff.

  • @stanslater1 no you see that's where you'r wrong emmylou harris is a great singer\ songwriter i agree. but her voice doesn't suit this song at all. Her version of this song gives me nothing it's not even in the same league. She's bringing shame to this magnificent song. Jackson and Bruce's version is the best version by far it's exquizid and i belive you know that. you can't say that her version is better because it just isn't and that's the end of it. I would go as long as to say it's rubbish.

  • This is by far the best version of this song I have found = yjx I loved the split screen and Jackson Browne - oh to have been there that night!

  • Danny Federici is in the heart of all springsteen´s e-street band fans we miss you god bless your soul. thank you Bruce for giving us all dreams in the body of fantastic songs, songs that make us laugh, dance, dream, cry and think, think about love, about life it self, about hope, better days coming, and how we can learn with the past. for all this thank you Bruce, thank very much.

  • The organ solo at the end of this song has to be one of the best keyboard solos in rock 'n roll history. Very moving and very powerful.

  • Roy Bittan is one the best piano players in the world!! he's so powerful and underated!!!

  • He's added so much to Bruces sound through the years. I agree, I think he's one of r&r's great piano players, so powerful and beautiful.

Can't think of one good reason the E Street Band isn't in the R&R Hall of Fame with Bruce, for that matter.

    The Heartbreakers are, w/Petty.

  • Songs like this were written when America was America !

Cheeseburgers, a gal sitting by your side, Muscle cars at the local drive in, Rock n Roll, and small town USA.

    Thanks Bruce !

  • 1978........

  • Jackson very underated

  • By whom?

  • by a many number of people. go to work ask people about Jackson. see just how good they know him. you will be sadly suprised. i never thought he got the credit he deserved

  • He was huge in the middle 70's - and one of the best singer/songwriters. He's been forgotten, only because so much time has passed. He's not doing much lately. But think of his body of work - Running On Empty, The Pretender, Here Comes Those Tears Again,That Girl Could Sing, Take It Easy (The Eagles), Somebody's Baby and of course, The Load Out Song and Stay.

  • Oh yeah....Doctor My Eyes - can't forget that one.

  • Great songs, all of 'em.

  • you forgot a few - i thought i was a child - the times you've come - for everyman - the late show - late for the sky - colors of the sun - our lady of the well - sing my songs to me - for a dancer - before the deluge - road and the sky - the road - shaky town - you love the thunder - sleeps dark and silents gate - the naked ride home - sky blue and black - the fuse - your bright baby blues - song for adam - jamaica say you will - something fine - rock me on the water - these days - i'm alive

  • stupid fuck

  • I like the little sheepish grin that Jackson gives when Bruce sings the verse about meeting the girl in a Camaro with some dude from L.A.

  • seriously this is so good. I'm starved of great live music. Have just booked dylan 2009 but these guys together would be amazing. Ive seen Springsteen-#jackson Browne, the loadout was my background studying. Sorry for the ramble but this has reminded me of proper music!

  • I always come back to this video when I need a lift and I have been blessed to see both of these gentlemen several times over the decades; but never together...LOVE this so much...THANK YOU.

  • Amazing. Two of the best.

  • Roy Bittan is amazing of course and pretty much makes the 2nd half of this.

  • Great song, grat performance, two great songwriters!

Wo sind die großen Songwriter heutzutage, oder ist diese Zeit ein für allemal vorbei?

  • Just how many great songs has Bruce written? Not all are so evocative as this, perhaps Darkness On The Edge of Town, perhaps Reason To Believe, Atlantic City, The River, Thunder Road, Missing, American Skin, - genius!

  • How many great songs has Bruce written?

Maybe 200, but he's been at a while. 40 years. Heck, that's only 5 a year. This one, "Darkness on the Edge of Town" (1978) came out when he was 28. Every song is brilliant. The albums that preceded it, "Born to Run" (1975), and followed it, "The River" (1980), "Nebraska" (1982) "Born in the USA" (1984), heck, right until "Magic" (2007), have few mediocre songs. Oh, then there's "Tracks" (1998), 66 songs not deemed good enough for a "regular" album.

  • Oops. The song is, of course, Racing in the Street. Darkness is the album.

Then there are the songs he's written and never released, but have been covered by other people. "Because the Night" was written for this album, but it didn't make the cut. He gave it to Patti Smith, whom Bruce admires enormously, and allowed her to change the lyrics in one verse and take co-authorship credit.

Check him playing Because, live in 1978; the version that's about 7:40.

He's a legend for good reason.

  • where was this? Really great vid and sound thanks

  • The outro is so beautiful!

  • two of the most talented songwriters ever.

  • really, really nice. thanks.

  • Thanks Danny.

  • What a GREAT song! One of my all time favorites!

  • RIP Danny

    Thanx for the music

  • I love Springsteen and Browne. I only wish there had been better videography of their performances. These are two of the best American songwriter/singers of all time. They deserve better than these well-meant but amateur recordings.

  • i actualy have this on DVD, its no so amateur (better then most out there)

  • WOW...That's incredible. Thanks much for the post!

  • beautiful
