  • It was Spring of 1962 and my Cousin Valerie and I were home alone after Mom, Dad, Uncle Ted, and Aunt Laura went out for the evening that Friday. Valerie invited several of her friends over for a few hours of early '60's teenage fun. We danced to Bobby Vee, Bobby Vinton, Elvis and some one hit wonders. I'm now over 60 years old, a bit apprehensive about where the world's going right now, but when I hit these Youtube Oldies, I'm definetly in a warm and safe place again. Anyone else with me?

  • @jeff62rey You bet! Thanks for your wonderful post.

  • just, take good care of my baby

  • My favourite music is that of the 50's and 60's and bobby bee rates as one of my favourite artists!!

  • I'm 21 years old and love music from the 50s and 60s!

  • as many have said...im 15 and i love music from this era...all the music in the charts atm is shit, there will be nothing like this genre again, simply amazing...(gene chandler - duke of earl)....:)

  • We love your lil song :), thanks for posting!!

  • These little simple words are so "Sad".

  • Bobby's career started on a tragic note the night Buddy Holly's plane

crashed. He just formed a band and went on from performing that

night to a star he became. He was 15 yrs old. With his 1st song

penned by him as a come back to Buddy Holly's Peggy Sue was

Suzi Baby and on to make over 38 Hot Top Chart Hits.10 Hit Top 20.

Rubber Ball was what brought him into the US with his music but it

was Devil or Angel that made him an international star.

1961 Take Good Care Of My Baby #1 hit.

  • Bob Dylan had him go with the Vee instead of Valline his last name.

The night Buddy Holly died a radio station was asking for local talent

to come and play and Bobby was one in a Band called Shadows

    His Top Hits 1961--1967--Suzi Baby--Devil or Angel--Rubber Ball--Earth

Angel--Run To Him--Take Good Care Of My Baby--The Night Has 1,000 Eyes.

Come Back When You Grow Up. In 2009 Inducted Hit Parade Hall Of Fame.

2011-Rockabilly Hall Of Fame. As of 2008 he was still touring. Great Singer.

  • So happy to see my little video surpass the 1,000,000 hits mark. Thank you Bobby Vee for giving the world this great song and thank you YouTube watchers for visiting my video and channel.

  • this music brings such joy, love this track!

  • A Teddyboy was dressed like showwaddtwaddy, Edwardian style( teddyboy). I am not talking about New York City, but York City England. In USA and UK we all had the same hair styles and listened to the same music, Cliff Richard, Tommy Steele, The beachboys, Elvis (The King)

Billy Fury, Connie Francis, Helen Shapiro etc. Both sides of the pond had a great time.

  • I remeber all these songs, I was a Teddyboy in the beebopaloola cafe in York, opposite Cliffords tower.

  • @CyprusLenny55

    What was a teddyboy?

Sounds like it was a really good time...to be that, in NYC...

  • Unforturanly thanks to the fateful Winter Dance Party tour,Bobby Vee & The Shadows got thier change as one of the hurried fill-ins in Moorhead ,MN the night of Feb 3rd 1959,to replace the "3 Stars" who lost thier lives, along with the 22 year old pilot in Clear Lake,IA..,later Fabian,Frankie Avalon,Jimmy Clanton also flew in to the rest of the venues to finish out the 2 week Mid-West( IA,MN,WI) tour!!

  • @boopkid such a lucky guy :) you have all my best wishes :)

  • Nobody cares how old you are, get over yourselves.

  • God I love this song!! I agree with the nostalgia comment, just something about this song!!! Music from early 90's and below is by far over and above any of the bullshit you see today. Everything is obsessed with sex. God I wish we still had music like this :(

  • @hinkypunk9 dude thats how its always been, and whats wrong with being sexy

  • I know everyone gets tired of the "I love this song and I'm 12" stuff, but music likes this needs to me immortalized forever in the youth of today, it's a shame that music like this is being forgotten and the youth seems to get sucked into Lady Gaga and such. I am thankful that I grew up in a home with a father that listened to 60's music...and I just wish there were more kids my age that had the same taste in music.

  • I am 16 and i LOVE music like this.. I rly wish i was born back when music was actually good :)

  • @bigsmittyfan Thanks to YouTube you can listen to all the music from this time. You have great taste and it is good to hear that young people today can also appreciate this music. Welcome aboard!

  • @bigsmittyfan dam straight!!!

  • @bigsmittyfan BACK IN THE DAYS MY STEP FATHER WORK AT GM ON COIT ROAD HE BUILT A BRAND NEW CHEVY IMPALA DK BLUE 1967 DROVE IT OFF THE LINE PK IT IN THE BACK AND BOUGHT IT THIS SONG CAME ON THE RADIO WHEN HE PULL IT IN THE DRIVE WAY MA YGOD BLESS YOU ALL AND THIS MUSIC .

  • @bigsmittyfan Hey, u remind me of when i was yr age (i was into breakdancing/hip hop etc.) and also loved old skool stuff like this. I'm almost 42 and i can say having a broad taste and appreciation of a various music types will is a good thing. Stand out frm the crowd and go with whatever u like. It's good to know that not all kids these days are soulles muppets ;-)

  • @bigsmittyfan i am 50 and u have good taste,,i lov the old music

  • @bigsmittyfan same here :D i wish i could have been born during that time :D

  • @bigsmittyfan Exactly im thirteen but i wish i was back in the 50s

  • @bigsmittyfan but surely this is the greatest generation of music where every style, type, genre, artist etc. of music is merely a few clicks of the button away.

  • what a great nostalgic song

  • I was dreaming I was dancing with "my baby" back in 1959!! Woo Woo!

  • reminds me of my childhood, better times, not a care in the world...

  • @0:42 i see his balls :P

  • @randomluv1994 Not as inviting as Tom Jones's.

  • I love this song, it's so lovely :)

  • I guess having this song playing at your daughter's wedding is the next best thing to a serious talk with your future son-in-law while cleaning a shot gun.

  • @southpaw023 play this then play cleaning my gun by rodny adkins

  • Memories of my last year at school ...steam trains and London Trolleybuses and first love

  • Why,oh why was i "born 2 late?

  • Stochard Channing composed the Grease songs. The sound is the same even though she had aged..rite?

  • lovely song <3

  • This music is the Buddy Holly legacy: he created this sound on 50's...he was a genius.

  • One of his best songs, Thx

  • One of the best songs ever!

  • My daughter played this at her wedding for her father daughter dance!! What a beautiful memory!

  • I'm back splashin' in McWane Pool, Wytheville, VA, with my sister Karen and cousins Pattie and Debby and Vicki..........hey, K and V...remember when we found the change stuck into the bleacher seats, and we all bought potato chips?

    ( Dam...maybe that was Vicki's sister Terry >>>>>>>>????? but I don't think so )

  • love this song even tho' i am only 12 lol x

  • @lolpgang I loved this song when I was 9, except then it was the coolest song on the radio...

  • @boopkid I'm still a fetus and I love this music!

  • @lolpgang I am 39 and I love this song

  • @lolpgang i love this song and this sort and i am sixteen

  • I find Rap extremely aggressive and most unpleasant. As for calling it music well that's a misnoma. The great thing about all the songs form the sixties is that the words were articulated properly. Yeh right, maybe they are a bit dated now but at least they were romantic. Some of the tosh spewed out these days is downright nasty.

  • @rohansrider agreed

  • i love this song. :0

  • This song is one of my favorites! :D I love oldies it's the only type of music I listen too. These days everything else is garbage. oldies<3

  • Damn, you're all lucky if you met Bobby. Never probably will get a chance in my life :(

  • I think this is my favorite song ever!

  • It was my absolute pleasure to open the show for Bobby on two occasions...once at The Floral Pavillion in Wirral (U.K.) and The North Wales Theatre in Llandudno (Wales)...in the break we chatted about his songs and his career...he is the nicest guy I have ever met in showbiz...a total delight...also on the bill was Chris Montez and Johnny Preston ...great guys (photos on my website donwoods.co.uk)

  • i met bobby back around 1970...whenever he played boblo island with brian hyland. i got to walk and talk with them. i still have bobby's wedding photos, it was gorgeous!!!

  • damn i hate todays music, there is no songs about love, its just nonsense, rap isnt and never will be music.

i cant remember the last time i listened to the radio, music of today is depressing.

  • Ein super schöner Oldie !!! Gabi

  • To all you pro wrestling fans out there (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when Americo Sebastiano Costantino came into the world (October 1, 1961). He would become famous as Rico Costantino or just as Rico.

  • Great song- Bobby Vee had several top 10 hits-- i know this one went to #1 3 more went to #2 and 2 more to #3 and another to #6, but like many artist prior to 34- that were the Good looking boy next door type-- didnt do as well as you went into the later 60's with the British invasion and long hair etc.

  • So this was released on my birthday, eh?

  • I hate it when the younger generation call 50s and 60s music rubbish, Music today will never be remembered in 50 years time, it has no tune, or what tune it does have

is stolen from another song, artists today (can i call them that LOL) cant play an instrument properly, they cant record in 1 take (most 60s bands/singers did) and live they sound awful.

    sad what music has become.

long live proper music like this.

  • @oldcomputers69 but dont think that all of the younger generation dislike 50s and 60s music, i'm 16 years of age and i love this sort of music, and alot of my friends do as well

  • @YesLloyd94

I love the 50's and 60's era of music, so simple and catchy, music like this never dies.

  • @mrstimspeedle i hope music like this never dies

  • Wow, people have the nerve to compare rap to music with actual meaning? Shit, most rap isn't even music. Just a bunch of dumb asses yelling random shit about drugs, money or women. Lil Wayne for instance, is not a musician.

  • eis am stiel *__*

  • Do wished id seen Bobby Vee, my loss. XLX

  • my grandma & grandpa would sing this to me when i was little. this song reminds me of them. <3

  • I love this song *-*, and i'm just 20 years old, but this music is an art

  • @TheXAtreyuX i love you for saying that.

  • That 60s era was littered with great Carole King / Gerry Goffin great songs. So many artists have to thank for their hit 45s

  • @spokar1. . ok, I stand corrected, Bobby Vee was never a one-hit-wonder !! What do you know?...even my friends have stopped being friendly with me for my stupidity. Ok, guys I need some fresh air right now or I choke !! Please keep posting some more nice songs for me ok?

  • there is nothing wrong with the oldies music or todays music but oldies do have alot of meaning so if people have nothing better to say or do get lost dont ruin it for others

  • I saw him when I was about 9 with my Dad, he was brilliant, I was raised on all the old 50's & 60's music. Hope he enjoys his retirement.

  • i know this one on guitar play lead in it :)

  • I've already written this once, but POOF!! it disappeared!! I was around 3-4 yo when this was popular. I was blessed with an older brother (by 13 years) and two older sisters. I love the music esp. the 60's and MY personal favorite, THE 80'S!! I don't ever listen to the music now. I wish I liked country but I just don't.. That is about the best music now days!! I despise hip-hop and rap!! What a waste for kids today!! They NEVER learned good music!!! God bless you!!

  • does any one know where to get records

  • I am looking forward to Bobby's retirement concert this Sunday, July 3, 2011 in St. Joseph, MN

Joetown Rocks Bobby Vee Family & Friends

Bobby has appeared at Joetown Rocks every year since 2006, this will be his last appearance at the festival.

  • @longbowrider He is retiring from performing for good? I am glad I got to meet him and see him perform in my lifetime.

  • MUSIC IS MUSIC,, BOOBY YOUR ALWAYS HAVE YOUR SONG THEY CAN NOT TAKE THAT FROM YOU,,, DOUG I MISS YOU LOVE YOU CAROLYNN KING

  • Not trying to sound dumb but i was watching a show called GLEE and one of the actors looks a bit like Bobby.

  • Rap and most modern music, especially hip-hop is disposable trash. Even though I grew up in the 90's surrounded by MTV garbage music, it's funny, I still love these classic oldies as they are a part of my life. Many good memories of my parents and grandparents (RIP) are tied to these songs.

  • I have seen Bobby Vee, My favorite sixties singer many many times over

the past years at concerts and fairs...He is and always will be the best..

Of course this is the greatest song written by the greatest songwriters

    King and Goffin....

  • TUNE

  • Some may refer to Bobby Vee asa "one hit wonder". I think not. someone did'nt do their homework. Bobby was one of the most sucessful singers of his time. I remember when he was Bobby Vee & the Strangers(Come back When You grow Up Girl). I brought every record that was released for sale. Great voice, great entertainer, great human being. Boopkid many thanks for the upload.this kind of music will never die. It's immortal!!!!!!!

  • One Hit Wonder, if I may put it that way, has always been for many artistes the way to making a name for themselves in a vastly competitive world of popular music. The money isn't bad either, but unless you are Sinatra or Nat Cole with endless hits, all you need is one hit and a few mis-hits and you are set-up for life. Like Bobby Vee, there were numerous singers who did just that and appeared in endless Shows as supporting performers and toured the world and became even more popular.

  • @macvatu Bobby Vee is hardly a One Hit Wonder, he was one of the most successful teen idols of the early '60's and Rock era. He had many hits and charted them through the late '60's.

  • @boopkid Glad we have commenters like you who take the time and have the knowledge to straighten out the ill informed, who probably tend to comment more out of ignorance than malice. Vee was a major talent with many hits and at least three classic rock 'n' roll hits, of which this is certainly one.

  • @boopkid you're right..

  • @macvatu excuse me ... Bobby Vee is no One hit wonder ... I suggest you listen to his hit songs before you make a claim like this ...

  • @macvatu Better do some more research... Bobby was anything but a one hit wonder ! I grew up in that era and he was as popular as it got !!

  • @macvatu I'm guessing you're not from the doo-wop era or you would have known that Bobby Vee had several hits.

  • @macvatu Yeah, sorry, Bobby Vee was not a one-hit wonders, and he has a lot of great songs that did not chart.

  • @macvatu One hit wonder ?What planet are you from.

  • @macvatu

One hit wonder!! Are you nuts?? What about,' Run To Him' 'The Night Has A thousand Eyes' 'Go Away Little Girl', 'Rubber Ball' 'One Last Kiss', 'Earth Angel'. Bobby Vee was one of many artists- The greatest was Elvis Presley- although my favourite was Ricky Nelson; who made you feel as though you were walking on air. Then of course came the Beatles. My friends and I had just turned thirteen. A great time to be young. One hit wonder? Never!! Their music is as good today as it was then .

  • @macvatu do a little research on bobby Vee... then post your comment

  • @macvatu I say this with respect... really ..you know not of what you speak!!!!

  • @macvatu Bobby was one of the most successful artists of all-time. "Take Good Care Of My Baby" was his 4th single. Before that he released the top 10 smash, "Devil Or Angel". He followed that up with another top 10 smash, "Rubber Ball". After "Take Good Care" he released "Run To Him" which went to #2. "The Night Has A Thousand Faces" went to #3 in 62. The next year he scored another #3 with "Come Back when you grow Up". That's just a taste of what he has accomplished over the years.

  • He looks like harrison ford in this video

  • Our family met Bobby Vee in 1966. He was such a gentleman and spent some time talking with us. A Class Act!

  • I never seen my grandma so happy...in my life...it took her back....

  • I took my grandma to his concert...we met him...he was the nicest celebrity I ever met...him and Billy Joe Royal...they were playing in the same concert...

  • when i met bobby he treated us the same way,he's the real deal and a great entertainer.when i have the blues i get out a bobby LP and i'm back in the game

  • Absolutely Brilliant ... Many thanks boopkid for sharing :-)

  • @Juperich Many thanks!

  • Bobby Vee's Biggest hit , one of my favorites from the classic summer of '61

  • I was looking through some bobby Darin songs and this song popped up on the music list. It was my aunt's favorite song. She died in 1969 at the age of 32 from breast cancer. Thanks for this song and the memory of a wonderful young woman who died too soon.

  • PROMISE BABYYY

  • I love this song! It brings back so many wonderful early teenage memories! I played this song over and over and over!! couldn't get enough of it - and of course of handsome Bobby Vee! Thanks for sharing this treasure! It's sad that the music of today does not hold a candle to what those of us lucky ones grew up on!

  • I am gratefull to those of you that know how to make these posts. Thnx for the Booby V post, boopkid

  • @boonierat59 You are very welcome. Thank you for your appreciative post.

  • This was the very first pop tune I ever became aware of as a 6 year old. I wondered what they were doing with that infant. Great little tune of its era.

  • Im 14, and when i was 4, i used to go to my nans and she'd always be playing this song. she'd sit me on her lap and we'd sing this together. today i heard this song on the radio and i had like a flash back of it :') now i cant stop listening to it reminds me of my nan :') <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • @MissBaileysLyrics That's the magic of music and great songs like this one, can bring one back in time to people and places...

  • @MissBaileysLyrics same here but im 15 and i used to listen to it with my dad and my 2 brothers who are the same age

  • This is a song about true love.

  • Was the 2nd single I ever bought.

    1961 & cost 6/3. (6 shillings & 3 pence) Remember?

    Wonderful memories.

  • Goods souvenirs......'60 years

  • Even the Beatles have a cover of this...

  • I used to think this was a father singing this to his daughter's husband on their wedding day :)

  • I see it was released on my 9th birthday. I've loved that song ever since!

  • I have to say Boopkid that I watch this video almost everyday. This may sound weird but with all your pictures in the video and your personal pictures, it makes the song even better. I am glad there are people that appreciate this music.

  • i was born 1990 i wish i was back in 50 60s era it seemed easier back in them days i cant stand the generration today i love you 50s and 60s lol

  • 2:34 video: "Take Good Care of My Baby" by Carole King and Gerry Goffin; 1961 #1 hit by Bobby Vee (born April 30, 1943).

  • A Happy Birthday to Bobby Vee today, April 29th! Mr. Vee thank you for your music legacy, you are a GIANT from a long ago era, and by the sound of the fans here you are certainly not forgotten.

  • this song is so good beyond words

  • WOW, and i thought “devil or angel”, “the night has a thousand eyes”, and all those other hits on his albums were way up there too?! but there were so many great singers back then. i am sure glad i had older teen siblings who bought all those 45’s. i know those songs better than the ones when i was a teen! *LOL*

  • @APACHEFIRE1 Thanks for your post...Well, they did very well, "Devil Or Angel" got to #6, "The Night Has A Thousand Eyes" got to #3, "Rubber Ball" got to #6, and "Run To Him" got to #2, so they all qualify as huge hits. He also had some great hits that reached the Top teens.- like "Charms" reached #13 and " Please Don't Ask Barbara" and "Sharing You" both reached #15. All of them great songs!

  • Okay..this is my most fav song in the world...when I was a kid and he was number one..this song gave me hope that right would win out...if you loved someone, you only wanted the best for them...yah I was naive but still want this played at my funeral ...and at every party I have before that!!

  • Okay..when I die, this will be played at my funeral because...when I was a kid, this song gave me hope that it would be okay..that what you believed was right would triumph in the end. Naive, yah probably..but then again I'm still here at 64 and this is and always will be..my favourite song!!!
