  • I used to work at the public library--miss it terribly. I enjoyed it.

Great staff and wonderful job and learning experience.

Nice video--now I want to go back!

  • Great video.

  • I like it! The reminder of our abundance is awesome.

  • I believe everybody has the right to be reasonably accommodated in the Public Library ( including me). These contemporary "day care centers" are Not Libraries. I will be spending much less time in these facilities. I for one, don't want to socialize or be annoyed by the likes of that. Just as well that I have been ejected from the San Luis Obispo Public Library- good riddance to bad trash- how much: Greek, German, and Sanskrit do they read? I'm not coming down to that level-Period.

  • I just want to make one more comment about how sick and insane this Society is evidently getting- the Social Fabric. A number of years ago I used small branch Library in Oceanside, Cal. Was a character who showed up for a number of days- who just had something evil about him. You would of thought the Library Staff might pick up on this- not to mention the Police Station- Right Next Door! Man was featured on: Americas Most Wanted- arrested him coming from Church. Mental Health Workers are nuts.

  • Really? I'm in San Luis Obispo. Both the Public and CalPoly Library Mystify me. Smelly Drunks, Addicts, Criminals, Cell Phones, screaming Kids. I've been "panhandled" by what has been described as a CalPoly Student by a Calpoly Library employee. People are using Libraries as cheep office space and annoying others, while they are on the clock. Tough budget times, should be more incentive to make sure a Library is a Library and not a mental institution. What Community has a "Classic" Library?

  • @39651able Just heard on the Radio that the Main San Francisco Library has a Social Worker on Staff to deal with the Homeless, Drunks, Parolees...Good way to Tap Government Grants, Funding etc. how sweet. It's not just the Homeless etc. this is a rude, narcacistic, course Society-What is a Public Library? I don't know anymore.

I bet Chinese Public Libraries are suitable for real inovation and progress.

  • @39651able I can't speak to what Chinese Public Libraries are like though here a link to an essay on why public Libraries have to get be more creative>>> pcworld.com/article/194960/its_time_for_public_libraries_to_get_creative.html

  • @39651able I hear what you're saying. I am speaking to a Public Library ideal as s a source of information open to all. Respecting the value of that access by providing a safe, clean contemplative space is obviously required and lacking in many cities. The fact that Libraries are being used as bulwarks to overburdened under funded mental health services speaks more to the priorities of civil leaders than to the libraries themselves. Like you I wish people would value & respect libraries more.

  • @starsandfrogs I have been "ejected" from the San Luis Obispo Library. Over one of the local chronic Drunks and his games. I was next for a computer ( had signed in for it) Miscreant had one of his acquaintances who was after me in sequence go ahead of me. This Library has survielance cameras- evidently they are blind. Reference Librarian "Lied" about the facts. These two sat together and ran there mouths- might as well be in a bar. Civil rights, use and enjoyment of Public Library? not for me.

  • its got my name

  • It is tough in budget cutting times for the people who have a calling to serve the public by working in a library, be they volunteers, janitors, shelvers, circulation staff, library aides, library assistants and librarians, for every day county governments break hearts to poorly mend the bad decisions made that created fiscal havoc.

  • Formidable production quality. Poignant, like the voice over, are you for hire? Great promo piece for you. I grew up going to the library thanks to my mom instilling it's value in me. It's one of my best childhood memories. Well done friend.

  • This is very cool. I love the varieties of library photos you found, from the almost "churchlike" old European libraries, to the modest branches, to the amazing feats of modern architecture. Libraries reflect the communities they survive in.

  • @rgmdb actually...... they STRIVE to reflect the communities they survive in. Even more important!

  • @rgmdb yes and it is getting harder for the libraries in the small communities to survive partly because of a belief that the internet will give access to needed information. The symbol of the physical presence of a library is disappearing in many communities and that is a classic example of "you don't know what you've lost till it's gone."

  • Great job! Posting this on my FB profile and Guardian Cats FB page. I am writing a book called the Guardian Cats which is set in two libraries, one small town public library and the other, the Great Library of Alexandria. I love libraries and so do the Guardian Cats! Look for 'Guardian Cats' on Facebook.

  • @rahmama2 Thanks for the kind words. Yes I did cut this video as a parody of the iPad ad since it seemed like similar words also descibe public libraries and I would love people to support them if only by using them more often. The Library at Alexandria did not make the edit but in 30seconds its hard to show the many that exist and in all their shapes and sizes. Considering the theme of your videos you might also be interested in those under user/watsumedia which I also produced. Cheers.
