i read the book iris is supposed to be UGLY and kind clara is supposed to be beautiful i dont liek the casting at all iris is prettier than clara and it ruins the story
I'm at a loss. He passed up Iris for Clara? They barely even spoke two words to each other during the entire time they were together. His reaction to her was so ridiculous. Apart from her face, what else does he know of her to attract him to her so strongly? It's even sadder that this actually happens in real life. I've seen some unattractive gowns worn by "Cindrella" but I have to say this one is the one I like least. Just a result of hating the fashions of this time period. I guess I give it up for this movie for making both Cindrella and the Prince not look the best as they are often portrayed. I do have to say that as Clara became less snobbish and a brat, the more beautiful she became.
after watching this i feel more miserable cuz i am all alone and waiting like iris.. T.T i wish i had a guy like casper who likes me a whole lot... but in reality.. that is not very possible.... especially since i have a problem with communication and personality.. beauty is still the essence of winning..

I agree that the Prince's behavior is lacking, but I'm not surprised. Iris is pretty, she's smart, she's honest, can think for herself, and she shares his interests. Had he married her, he would've gained more than a wife; he would've gained a friend. Clara could have been a witch or an evil fairy in disguise, and he doesn't know anything about her, but he didn't care, because all he saw was her beauty (which isn't all that). Unfortunately, people still act like that today.

I would say that the prince and clara wouldn't work out because he is judging based on looks and he and iris have a connection and more things in common.
The only thing that bothered me about this movie is that in real life commoners would never be invited to such a grand party where a Prince and Dowager Queen were present, let alone think that a common girl could marry a prince, it would never happen.
They didnt have a barony, an earldom, etc I doubt the step father was even knighted, so yeah.. To people higher up they would have condsidered them middle class.
The Dutch didn't have a ruling king they had a republican.
While I agree with what you say on the likely hood of them being invited to a royal ball. It seems a highly unlikely that a queen would come to Holland to find much in the regard of a court.
I like the books take on how she wanted to end her god sons line to the throne and catch a rich merchant to fund her since she was kick out by her son the king.
It's nice to see that a prince is expected to please an audience as much as any classic princess. Can we hope for a surprise hottie further into the story?

Iris is pretty in her own way. Clara is pretty too. Iris has the better personality and is more interesting so I think Iris is the better person to be a queen.

@sumiregusa23 The point of the original Cinderella story is that when you are good like Cinderella was in thestory it makes you beautiful.But if you're evil like theoriginal stepmom&psisters it will show on your face.I must admit some evil people look pretty at 1st butsoon the ugliness of their souls seeps thru to outside.I also noticed that some people who are not classically beautiful but have a sweet spirit glow with beauty which is better cause the real person is beautifulnot just their face

@kimigasukidayo0 Men are attracted by beauty but real men are attracted to a companion that is inside beautiful. Chemistry doesn't guarantee real love. How many men haven't found that out to their detrament? Vain people are empty. Handsome/beautiful or not. Sad that so many think genertic beauty is a thing to be sought after. Who would want to live with an unintelligent/vain person just because they are considered socially beautiful? And advertisers prey on this lack of self-confidence.

The only thing that bothered me about this movie is that in real life commoners would never be invited to such a grand party where a Prince and Dowager Queen were present, let alone think that a common girl could marry a prince, it would never happen.

While I agree with what you say on the likely hood of them being invited to a royal ball. It seems a highly unlikely that a queen would come to Holland to find much in the regard of a court.
I like the books take on how she wanted to end her god sons line to the throne and catch a rich merchant to fund her since she was kick out by her son the king.
