  • i thought it was MacDonalds :P

  • awesome mod

  • The intro music is from the old sxephil show.

  • or could just put in a 2.5 inch 2/1 tb sata hard drive

  • interestingly enough, you could just buy a 1tb 2.5in laptop drive O_o, but... to me, this slightly defeats the purpose of the mini.

  • find a eSata case...

  • Thanks for the vid,

A USB 1TB external runs 10.6.4, install OSX to the external drive, hold down the alt key after the chime, select drive, set startup drive as external.

This works for the Intel Late 2009 model, earlier models might not.

  • da new one can do 1 tb

  • If you put up the internal drive to 1TB the system will run more slowly when the drive gets full of stuff, serious. The better way is to stack up the internal harddrive with a SSD drive, 64 or 128 GB just for the OS. And then connect an external hard drive up to 2TB via FW 800 (NewerTech miniStack v3). You may make a guide for this ;)

  • Sorry but this guide isnt very good at all. You actually destroy the warranty of either the mac mini and the NextStar case with cutting out the plastic parts. Plus as we all could see the NextStar case is flipped with 90° to keep the SATA Cable in the "back" ..which is actually the side of the case. Doesnt look really good.

The other thing is that this guide is pointless, because there are other, easier ways to size up the mini.

  • why don't you jest get an external drive and connect it via Firewire???

  • You seem to be from Spain, just like me!

  • cant you just use an external hard drive?

  • Cool mod but totally pointless.

  • Maybe it is pointless for you but to be able to connect a 1 terabyte or 2 terabyte drive directly to the sata port on the mac mini and use it as the main drive is totally cool since you can't do this any other way.

  • @aramistech ever heard of external hard drives???

  • @jonniemexico why would it be pointless to get a bigger harddrive??????????

  • no man dont put a 3.5 put a 2.5 SSD and a external 7200 that is FAST

  • Nice video! I was wondering if it isn't easier to run OSX from a 1TB firewire drive? You could run OSX from a firewire disk, or is it impossible?

Of course, i have subscribed, so keep on the good vids!

  • Thank you, I appreciate it. You can put an external drive but I tried it and since you can't access a bios to customize the settings it will not boot to an external drive. The way I did it will not fail since you are connecting the SATA drive directly to the motherboard. Thanks for subscribing.

I do enjoy making the videos because I can share information with many people at once. I'm glad you liked them. Thanks.

  • you can set the default boot device from inside os x, external firewire drives included. holding the option key at start up will also give you the option to choose.

  • @aramistech You can most certainly boot off a Firewire drive extremely easily but its slow.

  • nice

  • Thank you.

  • This is incredibly nice work! I wish I had the time and guts to pull it off. Creds!

  • Thank you, I appreciate. If I did it, you can do it too. Just take your time and follow the steps in the video. The worst thing that can happen is that you have to put it back the way it was. Thanks again for the comment.

  • Could you not have run the cable out of one of the slits in the air vents on the back?

  • This is the best way I could run the cable, and it does not interfere with any of the parts on the mac mini.

  • Great project , btw whats the song at the beginning?

  • Thank you I appreciate. The song is named TORN JEANS, and it can be found in the MAC OS operating system.

  • Thank you very much.

  • lol it's just one of the default iMovie/Garageband songs.

  • Yea i figured out after a while , torn jeans camo , thanks anyways.

  • Thank you, I appreciate that comment.

  • i got a 1.5 TB Lacie D2 7200rpm external HD and honestly it wasnt too expensive only $200, powers on/off by itself and and doesnt look bad at all another think is that i have it connected with firewire cable cant complain on firewire :)

  • In the video what I show you is how to make a hard drive of 1tb or larger as the internal drive for the mac mini by bringing the connections out of the mac mini. This is way better and the drive works faster since it will be connected directly to the sata port on the motherboard of the mac mini.

  • You can just buy a usb 1TB hard drive and it looks really good too!

    But nice video

  • Yes you can but it will not work at the speed of the internal SATA connection, a USB drive works slower. This would make the drive the internal drive for the mac mini.

  • @aramistech great tuts man. subbed =)

  • Thank you, I appreciate it.

  • great video!!

  • Thank you, I appreciate it.

  • Thank you, I appreciate it.

  • Is there a way you can do this with a External Hard Drive like a Western Digital?

  • Yes That is what I show you in this video

  • That looks awesome!!!!!!!!! I own a Mac Mini and I will probably do that myself !  !

  • It is a cool project with 3 great benefits. 1 Hard drive speed. 2. There is alot less heat in the mac mini since the drive is now running externally, 3. If you want a larger drive it is easier to upgrade all you need is to open up the external box and change it out.

  • That's pretty much what I was thinking. But I have one question. What did you use to cut the hole in the Mac Mini? Thanks!

  • why not use a external hdd via usb or firewire?

  • The reason is because a full 7200rpm drive connected using the SATA connection will make this alot faster.

  • Great Video, nice project and looks good

  • i have that background on my macbook

  • hmm verry well descibed 5/5 :D

  • Slick idea, nicely done.

  • Cool project...wonderful video!!

  • Thank you, it does take sometime to complete and you have to have some patience but in the end it is pretty cool to have a 1TB on a mac mini. Thanks again for the comment.

  • Bad azz video !!!!

  • THANK YOU!!!!. I appreciate it.

  • WOW'

  • LOL

  • Realy cool man. I subscibed. I'm a kinda Apple fan so I'd like to have the updates from someone who uploads that kind of videos. Great work. Keep up.

  • Thank you, I really appreciate it. Thanks for for subscribing. I'm also kinda of an apple fan :-). Thanks.

  • Cool project but why not just leave the stock drive in there and connect that external one with USB or FW?

  • The reason is because once you upgrade the drive you have a 1 Terabyte for all your apps, the mac OS, and even using bootcamp.

The mac mini will not allow you to boot from a USB drive, and the internal drive is pretty small. Thanks for your comment.

  • Damn great video dude!

I dont have a mac mini nor do i like apple but im sure my uncle would love to do this!

  • Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. I appreciate your comment. Best of luck.

  • Good video

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • Neat video.

  • Thank you I appreciate it.

  • Yes you can upgrade the memory to 4GB. The processor is too expensive and would not make sense to spend the extra money.

  • is there any way to boost any other specs on the mac mini?
