I remember this piece from about 3 years ago, which was around the time that I started the piano. Now that I came back to this piece, it feels musically immature. I mean it's a nice simple piece of music but the way it develops along with the constant repetition feels very childish, musically speaking.

The point was to show that I have experience with some forms of mature music and of course you care. Because you misunderstood my comment for a piece of music, that is apparently very dear to you, as a negative comment, you're hurt to the extent that you had to make a stupid comment in an attempt to insult/dismiss me as the listener of stupid pop music (thus rendering my opinion mote). How is this at all childish? Regardless of however it's put together it has to do with the overall sound of the song. Some of the most famous pieces are the most basic. This song is beautiful in my opinion. I would learn this over something ridiculously difficult because it's more 'mature', musically speaking, any day.

When I started composing, I had the bad habit of repeating things twice. I say this is not mature because he is doing what I did when I was musically immature (also note the lack of harmonic development). Keep in mind, this topic has NOTHING to do with technical difficulty. It's more about the depth of the relationship between the quality of the music and the theory rather than virtuosity or depth of emotional attachment.

Personally I agree with you about famous/basic pieces. One example is JS Bach's famous prelude in C (the maturity becomes evident when you analyze the harmony). If it makes you feel any better, notice that I never did insulted this piece. I merely labeled it as I saw fit. I think that you made the mistake in assuming that immature music is bad music.

It sounds to me like you're expecting some grand amount of development and progression is what is essentially a minimalist piece. I'm guessing you're also not a fan of Glass? These composers set out to be repetitive intentionally. I see them as representing a single mood. You're supposed to be left feeling the same as you did when the piece began as it did when it ends, yet you're using this as grounds for criticism. It's like complaining that a nocturne is too tranquil.

In my case, I played a few really tough songs, and then this, and all of a sudden my friend was like "OH MY GOD, IS THAT WHAT I THINK IT IS? THAT'S AMAZING!!!!".
