  • Hi Kaliatech, I have exactly the same sound on my 8740w. Did you ever get to the bottom of it? I have seen your other post on the notebook forum but what you suggest on there does not stop the buzzing. Thanks if you can help.

  • @YES670 You are referring to the forum post I linked in the video description? That stopped high pitch noise for me. You must read closely and close dialog windows after changes. Not intuitive. Noise often seems to come back after I mess with external audio & mics, but I can get it back off again by playing with the settings per that forum post. Regardless, the laptop is noisier than the average laptop. Early on I had the internal sound card replaced, but it did not make a difference.

  • @kaliatech Thanks for the fast reply! I think I have fixed it....not with the method that fixed yours but by fiddlinf with the power settings. I have concluded that it is a capacitor that's buzzing in the cpu circuit when the cpu enters it's idle state (state C4 I'm told.) Please see this link for more info:

  • @kaliatech , i have the same sound on 8740w. Replacing MB, Graficcard..., i have full support over 5 years. Sound comes from the cpu, core i7 first generation was the answer of the support after changing all inside. The sound is in a range of technical specifications. I thougt to change the cpu to core i7 second generation, but hp says this cpu isnt running on this mb. Shit happens, i have to work the next 4 years with this machine.

  • hey man i recently bought a hp pavilion dv6-6170sl quad core f-ucking fast but sooooooo noisy so i'm planning to give it back cause i feel like shit when i work my other friends super silences pcs specially those asus, it has only one weekof life so it stillsin warranty should i change for the same model or get an asus or another brand? i've read one of the never unsolved problems of hp is the huge noise coming from the HDisks and fans....i adore the performance but i hate that damn noise...

  • Is this laptop having overheating and shutting down problems,BSODs or crashes? Is this laptop reliable like a Thinkpad from Lenovo?

  • @DIPGLOBAL1 I can only speak to my own experience. Thinkpads have a reputation for being reliable, but I've been impressed with the HP Elitebook series. (I generally don't like HP laptops.) I have had ~4 shutdown crashes in past 8 months, usually while doing something like editing video. That is a good track record in my experience (with Windows based laptops). I have not had any problems with overheating. Keep in mind I have an i7-620M CPU. Only recurring issue I have is sound card noises.

  • sounds like interference on your sound card i get that too if i have wifi pulling more than 50MB/s

  • That sounds like your CLOCK is about to expire :P

On a serious note, HDD might be causing that noise....

  • @sfarosu ha. I determined the noise was coming from the sound card. Posted a workaround in the forum link above. The hard drive is an SSD. No mechanical noise, though I've heard reports of capacitor buzzing.

  • Is this workstation any good.I know is silly to ask,but there's a lot of people with different problems, and they're all using this same model.

How does it perform in cad/bim software or 3ds max?

Is it equipped with Nvidia or Ati?

    Regards

  • @TheStigtg It is a great workstation class laptop. The HP Elitebooks seem to be in a different class as compared to HP's consumer machines. There were some defects in the initial shipments before the DC2 screens became widely available. Those have all been fixed though. With the latest BIOS and excepting the noise problem shown in video above, this laptop is easily the least problematic laptop I've ever owned. I added notes to the video description to describe my config with more detail.

  • @kaliatech Thank you for quick response.I decided to go for this model.
