@serpentinecreature - you're very welcome- it's really one of my favorites - I love Brazilian music of this genre- and Johnny sings this so tenderly- just flows. Would love to hear him sing this in concert one day. Enjoy.
One of the fine versions of this wonderful song! A beautiful arrangement for the orchestra and of course Mr. Mathis sounds GREAT as always! I enjoy the Jobim music in the original Portuguese too. Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn's versions are other favorites.
@waltandrus - love this- and Jobim and other Brazilian artists and musicians. I' ve heard Sinatra's version- which I liked- very soft - i love this one. Very glad you like it. thanks
@teachergoldie - 'a' Johnny Mathis has a professed love of Brazilian music- have heard him say this is his favorite song on this CD- he brings such intimacy to this song- really beautiful. Glad you're enjoying it.
I've heard a couple of versions of this song, they're both good_ but Johnny seems to add a different flavor of smoothness in any song he covers. Thanks lenoremewton, I really enjoyed this one!
@fatstrat66 - i love this version- of Dindi- Johnny's love for Brazilian music comes through- heck- he sounds good no matter what he sings- but he does love this music so that may add a special additional 'layer' of magic ! i'm so glad- you're welcome:)
Well thank you posting, this warm, romanic love song.......he is so excellant and you know how I love the man,,,,,,,,just love getting a new song.....thanks again
@Bobbbiejean - You are so welcome- I love, love this song- I love any Brazilian/samba song- especially when Johnny sings it in his special way. I'm repeating myself- but this is a CD worth owning- "Isn't It Romantic" - Every song on it is wonderful. Enjoy!
Johnny Mathis is one of my favorite singers; however I believe Willie Bobo has the most beautiful version of this song. I saw him perform it live many years ago, he sang it so beautifully.
I've never heard the version you mention- so many others, Antonio Carlos Jobim, among them, sing it beautifully. It's great to have all these choices so we can listen and appreciate. I happen to love this one! Enjoy.
Great, great song. Im amazed I had never heard it before. I've listened to other versions since, and I must say, this version is the best. As with any love song Johnny Mathis puts that Mathis Magic on it and the end result, a beautiful ballad matched with the perfect voice to sing it.
Glad you like-- i love Brazilian music- particularly Samba. You can hear it sung by several Brazilian (and non) artists who are appreciators of Antonio Carlos Jobim's music- he was spectacular! Enjoy. (yes - and Johnny's voice adds a wonderful layer of sensitivity).
I'm going to take credit here for the photo of Johnny shown towards the end of this video - wearing the cream colored suit. I took the photo of Johnny at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, CA in February 2007. "Dindi" is a beautiful song.
please do! I usually say "some photos by courtesy of friends" - I actually thought someone else took one that I knew of but forgot to mention them as well. That is a wonderful shot you took- and if you'd like it removed- please do let me know. Thank you - glad you like the song.
thank you, Maureen, and i see that you are a UK JM appreciator! It is a lovely song- and I enjoyed putting it together a great deal. So glad you like it- and thank you for adding it to your favorites!
so glad you like it!! This song is on the album/CD "Isn't it Romantic"- which came out in 2006- I think it's one of his best in later years- I love nearly all the songs on it- . This is a brazilian song and Johnny seems to love brazilian music- it's soft, beautiful language- although this is sung in english. I am a lover of beautiful melodies and gravitate to them ! The photo search has become more than a hobby.... enjoy!
It is worth the price of this CD to read the liner notes, written by Jay Landis. The full orchestra was there, for the recording, as Johnny Mathis prefers to do it, plus a few invited people, which is also his custom, so it is more like a performance, than a recording session. Your collection of photos are wonderful, Lenore. Thanks!
funny you should use those words "worth the price of the CD"- i almost said nearly the same thing- it's beautifully written - very descriptive, almost poetic! To be there in that intimate audience... Thanks - I love the photo search- glad you like it.
Simplesmente coroada ~interpretação na voz ouristica brilhante desse J MATHIS very beatfull

I like the voice. It's very soulfull and smooth. First english version i've heard that's been able to catch that very special portugese tone. Nice!
