My little daugther made me search for this song, since we live in germany it was rather strange to me hearing her hum an irish lullaby and I ask her were she had it from. Actually she rememberd it from Barney Gamble in the toiletts ;-) so well and liked it so much so I had to promise to find the lyrics for her. Thanks to YouTube we will soon sing it together and spread some Irish feeling in germany. All our love to dear Ireland and all the friends we havent met yet.

All the Irish songs by Bing Crosby remind me of my grandfather...he died when I was only 3. I don't remember too many things about him, but these songs bring tears to my eyes and remind me of him. I'm sure we shared a dance to this.

My brother is named Danny in honor of his favorite song, Danny boy.

Rest in peace to all our great Irish relatives who have passed, but left us with beautiful music.

@krkerwood1171979 my grandfather used to sing this to me when I was young as well. He died from Alzheimers at the age of 58 when I was 10, it is one of the best memories I have of him. It is a funny song for me, I listen to it when I am sad or, when I hear it unexpectedly, I get melancholy thinking about him. I hope by now you have a beautiful new baby and your grandfather has had the chance to sing this to him/her. Congratulations!

No matter the mood I'm in, this always calms me down--regardless the situation I'm in. Though I'venever had anyone sing this song to me, I found it on an old CD my mum had on a dusty shelf. I couldn't believe she didn't listen to this song daily! I've gotta hand it to Bing that he's got one of the best voices I've ever heard. The tederness in his voice makes this lullaby hit home with me....

@krkerwood1171979 . My father used to cry when he heard this song because HIS father (my grandfather) used to sing it to his six Irish children when they were ill. My grandfather died in 1970, age 99. My father in 1989, The singing went on in the 1920's. Good luck to your grandfather!

@kerryincolumbus didn't mean to make you cry....I've been listening to this song a lot the last few days as I just celebrated my birthday for the first time without my grandfather, it's been bitter-sweet, especially when my son stares at the picture I have of my grandfather on my wall....I know that Papa is up in Heaven watching over my son and I and getting the biggest kick out of how smart and big my lil man is getting (he'll be 3 months on 2/5)....a good cry is good for ya!
