In a way that is better than lying... :=) it is true that it will cost us more in the short-run, but in the long run it should set us free. Set us free--from oil foreign oil dependence (think of all the money we could have saved on this dumb war we're still fighting). Renewable energy is very expensive right now, in order for it to become cheaper there has to be a demand for it--this should definitely make us think about finally change and go green.

I don't understand why they don't spend time figuring out an alternative solution for energy. If they offer the alternative solution or the origional source and companies then choose the origional source, then tax them. There is no sense in taxing companies who will then tax consumers, when a solution is not available for the companies yet.

The problem with the claim is, the costs that people will pay don't come out to "steep" or "destructive"

The news report said $65 billion/year, which tracks with what the White House has said, and figure all of that is passed on to the consumer. Figure 70 million working families in America, that comes out to under $930/working family/year, or less than $80 a month. Speaking as a member of a fairly average (income-wise) working family, it won't hurt us much to pay that.
