  • Cripes. The hobos are angry again. One of Tom's recent best! And kudos to him for the song title - what a perfect phrase.

  • This song reminds me of the bands that used to play at my Abuela's house when I was a little kid formulated by Puerto Rican bikers and ex hippies.

  • @hahajoeiscool Yes it is, they're actually close friends.

  • One of my all-time favorite waits tunes. Ribot's guitar solo is fucking sick.

  • This song just brings something out of you doesn't it. Something you rarely get to see in yourself.

  • I just gotta do a tribal style dance to this.

  • So awesome that Les Claypool apears frequently on this song and a few times on the album.

  • @krbntrtmn do you think that the primus song tommy the cat is about Tom Waits? it does seem to me now that les is kind of doing a lampoon of toms voice when he starts telling the story from the cats perspective

  • @hahajoeiscool it's actually tom waits in the song. les tells a funny story of how he got tom to go along with it.

  • @hahajoeiscool Tommy the Cat isn't about Tom Waits, but the voice of Tommy the Cat is in fact Tom Waits voice. Waits and Claypool have collaborated a good deal.

  • Awkward moment: Jamming to this song while your parents left you home alone for a few hours, and it's sooooo loud you don't realize they have returned, and they barge into your room and your mother is in tears because she thought the song said "Hoist that Hag".

  • Tom is eternally bad-ass. He's has been from the very beginning.

  • and god gave us tom waits. thank you god

  • Love the fact that Mr Waits refuse to 'grow up'. Where other tends to crawl into security and play safe he just keeps on going. Challeging him self and 'keeping the world weird'. Hoist that rag!!!

  • @aokism did he use that phrase? keeping the world weird? would suit him^^...or are those your words?

  • @mrsbookthief Well the quotation marks should not have been there (shure Mr Waits could have uttered that phrase though) in terms of qouting Waits for that. It's a cut from a newspaper articel, but one thing i know Waits have said is: "songs are really just interesting things to be doing with the air".

  • @aokism that's nice! and also he said "songs are like birds. they don't like to be caged in."

  • @mrsbookthief Another thing to like. That's really...well cute (sorry) and this song is anything but cute. Or is it? But it's swinging like danseing in hell. With a smile going all over your face.

  • @mrsbookthief

    we need more "...."

  • @aokism what do you mean? more tom waits quotes?

  • Damn good address for a rat...The best anti-war song ever written?

  • @gingerburney Hell Broke Luce is the best anti-war song.

  • this is fuckin amazin!!!!!

  • Tom Waits fixed my stereo .No sound out of right speaker for months. Cranked this song up and now it works

  • @ballicoat lucky, he just broke mine lol

  • @ballicoat

    Tommy is magical like that.

  • @ballicoat Holy shit my right ear just popped after I read that.

  • first song i ever heard by tom waits, ever since then ive loved him. real gone is still one of my favorites of his albums

  • i love that fact that there is 0 dislikes :) dont often see that :) go mr waits :)

  • I'm trying to find the official video for this, i saw it one time on a documentary about Tom Waits...it played clips of the Iraq War along with the song...it was disturbing, but very profound.

  • The guitar solo on this track is one of the greatest things ever witnessed. It's dripping in drunken swagger.

  • This song has always given me the uncontrollable urge to dance, even though don't know how. It's just sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good!

  • why are people comparing tom waits and the arctic monkeys? i don't understand

  • this man is just endlessly fascinating

  • im 17 and this the best song pre arctic monkeys

  • @combinedcadet

The Artic Monkeys fall nowhere in the history of music, Waits like countless pre 21st century artists is immortal, I think you need to listen to more music and open your mind up a bit more. Also the relevance of your age is questionable, learn to be more humble.

  • @Z1cky nothing wrong with a bit of arctic monkeys

  • @Z1cky HERE HERE! well said Z!

  • @Z1cky although I do agree that Waits and other classics are immortal in music, that's quite a bold statement considering people would have said the same thing when Waits was coming up. You can't put a time stamp on music. It doesn't work that way.

  • @combinedcadet lol arctic monkeys, they're pretty good.

You should Check out Bob Dylan, I'd bet you'd like that too

  • @combinedcadet

I'll have to admit, when I was 17, I had all the pretty girls.

  • one of the best songs from the album, one of his best albums.
