i put up this video a couple years ago, i also went to barstow looking for the railing! i didn't find it but i did find some homeless people hanging out under the underpass which was covered with graffiti. so in spirit, it lives. thanks all of you for listening!
Most interesting is that this is an early recording and the piece was thoroughly re-written for the later more well-known recording. Not only the stylized introductions to each inscription but even the orchestration was absolutely re-done by Partch. This is an absolute jewel of recorded history, and I didn't even know it existed until I just listened to it (3 times over and over)
Wow, I finally figured out who this guy was...I only heard him once on NPR radio...may have been 25 or 30 years ago...only had the lyrics Jesus was God In The Flesh Hey Hey Hey. Thank you for sharing this.
"i went to barstow recently, i couldn't find the railing"
Did you also go to 118 E. Ventura st. in Las Vegas, ring the doorbell and have some real old lady come out and yell at you "WHY IN HELL DID YOU COME, ANYWAY?"
FYI this is not the John Schneider recording, this is Partch himself with his ensemble.

Did you check the old iron bridge by the Harvey House? It's the oldest bridge in Barstow and I believe it was the only one during the depression.
Just thought I'd ask! Great recording!
