  • brill vid shame about the staic noise

  • boomtastic - awesome comment, LMFAO

  • fuck this!

  • its funny how the noise is to some point rhythmic... :P

  • @pimp3my7ride It is, it's basically quarter eighth-rest dotted-quarter quarter-rest. Which means that every time around, there are 2.5 beats of static and only 1.5 beats of music. sucks huh

  • I could listen to this for hours!

  • ALEX! FIX THE FUCKING TAPE!

  • I used to like this U Tube Video! Jaco was playing on a bass unfamliar to him. That to me is excellence at it's core, but the static is unbearable. I wish I could have a clean copy. I'm reaching out to you true Jaco fans here, Thank Ya'll

    MeFoo Texas

  • @MegaMefoo watch?v=nRFbfBGgpbw&feature=related

  • ear rape. I hate you

  • DAMN!!!

I want to push the dislike button so freakin bad because of the fucking noise, but I can't because Jaco is in this video.

  • don't get me wrong, i love Jaco, but this video is awful...i had my speakers turned up to less than a quarter of the volume and nearly threw my computer out the window because the distortion freaked me the f*^& out... why even post this???

  • @JoeJunk9289 Hahaha....thats funny.... you took the words right out of my mouth. Especially the part about to throw the computer through a window bit.

  • Any on e can play BZHH ZHHHHHH, but it takes a special player to bring BZHH ZHHHHHH to life!!!!

  • I didn't figure Pastorius made noise music, but I guess this video says otherwise :P

  • this video is suposed to be heared IDIOT!!!!!! FKNG NOISE

  • Is this the Squarepusher remix ?

  • @flintsteel Haha... man...your the first cat I ever heard mention Squarepusher...you are automatically cool in my book Jack!

  • @thesicilianguitarist ha ha - Thanks man - Love (slap) bass and noise - this seems like a mix of both ;)

  • Sort the audio OUT !

  • get rid of that bs noise or remove the video- sheesh

  • the PFFFFT has it's own time signature and everything....BRILLIANT!

  • @666flatliner I believe its in 6/8

  • nice ballad

  • @joshuapickenpaugh PFFFFT LOL!

  • I started tapping to the buzz, it grooves.

  • My favorite part was the PFFFFFFT. You can clearly hear the genius behind the harmonic choice they made to include that.

Or to be honest, I just got ear raped.

  • It's a cool vid, but I wish I could hear it better.

That rhythmic noise you're hearing normally indicates a tape head misalignment in an early BETA or VHS tape machine. Have your machine serviced, or e-bay a working one.

I used to fix them machines.. it was no easy task to realign them.

  • my head almost explotesss...but due to the horrible buzzz...its a petty as its a unique video

  • remove this video please... Threre is some distorsion on it.

  • @budin8 SOME distortion? understatement

  • I remember wathcing this video some time ago and there was no buzz whatsoever =S

  • What the Bzzzzzzt?

  • Jesus!

Remove this video and give jaco and jeff some respect.

  • does a clean version of this exist?

  • Why did you post this???????????????

  • psspss psspss psspss psspss

    ... nice backing track....

i couldn't play bass along this...

by the way.. Jeff is cool

  • this video is shit!!!

  • dude i love jaco but you allmost killed my premium sound system that was NASTY you could have muted the sound or get some audio editing software and clean thaT THING UP PLUZZZEEEEE WE LOVE JACO

  • The torture never stops... (FZ)

  • Dont worry youtubers , there is a very important message in this video for humankind if you get to slow it down; ask those 300+ people who liked this video

  • I saw this video a couple of years ago and it didnt sound like this. FUCKED UP!

  • Nice sound quality pal.

  • madonna troia

  • What the fuck is that noise???

  • nice distorion effect on the drums!

  • can't listen ... noise ..... shit .....

  • That was filmed on a Monday morning .. Jaco and I had been at the L.A. Guitar Show for the weekend .. I was working for M.I. ( GIT ) that weekend

  • A chance to play with Jaco Pastorius. I'd kill to do that

  • @bassmaster9860

    you'd better study than kill

  • @thechuckwillkill hellyeaaa!!

  • wtf is with the white noise? is it just me?

  • love both of these guys, but i am digging the white noise groove too.jazz industrial.lol.

  • A video with Berlin and Pastorious together and the audio is jacked. Figures. What a letdown. :(

  • How you could upload this with the sound failure beyond me. Moron.

  • Fix the damn sound!!!!

  • Edited by Jeff for Jeff. I knew someone who was around at the time. Equally good!

  • Fix the sound retard!

  • WOW!!! I wish I had that distortion pedal. It like goes on and of every 2 seconds... automaticly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The sound sucks

  • great sound quality ohh the vibe man !

  • wtf is with the heavy static every 2 seconds

  • the video quality is shit, the sound is shit because the awesomness of both Jaco and Jeff are so good that the video is damaged. XD

  • WTF happened to this?

  • Man - use some noise reducing filters on the audio! Almost blew my speakers out.

  • wow a really pretty sound

  • These guys are both great, but I'm not a fan of this static jam. I don't enjoy this as much as Jaco's solo album, or Berlin's stuff with Bruford. I hope they never release this on an album. And I also found it strange that the static actually had a little rhythm to it.

Anyone gotta transcription of this "GSHHHHH GSHHHHHH.....GSHHHHH GSHHHHHH.....GSHHHHH GSHHHHHH....." jam?

  • @ZappaFan101 Seems to come in on the and of 1 and the and of 2 at 70 decibels. But the rest of it is just fine!

  • I find a Jaco/Berlin duo and the audio is fucked up. Go figure.

  • Whoever staticked this video should be asked why. I beg you to reinstate the audio without the static, Jeff if it's you please don't be jealous. He is dead now and you can claim the title. You should be proud of this performance. After all you were playing your own axe and showed him up.

  • PRRRRRRT PRRRRRT.........PRRRRRT PRRRRRT..............PRRRRRRT PRRRRRRT catchy stuff

  • WTF?!!!!!!!!

  • Was this video the original upload? I watched this before and there were no statics..what happened?

  • Why was this video even posted its going to damage your speakers. I have P8 powered monitors and I'm glad I turned the volume down.

  • i didn't know Jaco could play Bursts of Static.

  • @rarisgod LMAO

  • am I the only one hearing the giant bursts of distorted fuzz?

  • @rexasul I thought I was going crazy!

  • @rexasul --No you are not the only one. It's unlistenable. It wasn't always this way.Luckily if I ever want to see it,I have it on video. How does this get fixed?Does the person who posted it need to re upload it.?

  • @rexasul

No I hear it too, and it ruins the whole video!!!!

  • i love jaco , but Jeff Berlin is also a great bass player !!

    cheers !

    chopper

  • All I have to say is thank you for posting this gem... No need to compare these two greats... they have their own kingdom.

  • i wounld have never though that jaco hed ever been nailed like that

  • @gab392

If this had been ten years earlier it would have been

the other way around. When Jaco was in his peak

he could play just as advanced as Jeff, if not more.

Too bad that they didn't jam many years before, since

this clip doesn't do Jaco justice.

  • Incredible !

  • Jeff quiere demostrar algo aqui ?creo que le falta el carisma y la magia que jaco posee es innato y grandiosa.

  • i never new these two played together.

  • The Good Old Days!

  • over what are they improvising?

  • @yogsothoth2099

A standard called "Invitation". It has been played by many musicians. Jaco himself and his big band performed it on the "Live in Japan" Word of Mouth album .Also the shorter U.S. release album that was called "Invitation".In fact it's on Jeff Berlin's brand new cd that came out last week called "High Standards"

  • Please people,i need full length video of this ?Where is Jaco part of solo ?

  • The internet has become a "giant bathroom stall" where people tear down anything and everything that they can based on stupidity and ignorance. I ,for one,am with all the nice folks here who come to praise these great musicians. As for the rest of you,well--"no comment" is my comment

  • Jeff may be a better improviser but Jaco's solo's were much more interesting, had cooler licks and more soul. Jaco at his prime was also faster than Jeff will ever be.

  • Adam Clayton is the best!

  • @SimulacronX .yeah funny.lol

  • Jeff Berlin trashes Jaco - WTF! Jaco played with so much heart that Jeff's playing sounds like chicken scratching in comparison... and don't get me wrong, Jeff is an AMAZING bassist!

  • Why is it that stuff played on a bass which would be so unremarkable on a guitar makes bassists wet their pants?

  • @prababilacab it's called an appreciation for musicianship, no matter what instrument you play, moron...besides, I doubt you could play this on guitar anyway, so stfu...

  • @joejess92 musicianship? no, sports.

  • @prababilacab you can't be serious, I'd love to see you even try to play this on guitar - oh wait, first off, you can't. secondly, you can't come close to achieving these kind of tones, not with a guitar and certainly not using a pick.

  • i am not impressed

  • this may be a dumb thing to ask but isnt berlin turned up louder then jaco???cant really here him while berlins playin.....anyway great post thanx.

  • Wow, that's amazing! Not the playing, though it was very good. But just seeing Jeff and Jaco on the same stage is amazing, especially when Jeff always seems to have time to trash Jaco nowadays. Ever read Jeff's comments in Bass Player mag when they did a big article on Jaco's song "Havona," and Jeff just had to write them a letter informing them that Jaco wasn't strong at improvising? What a douche. And judging by this video, Jeff's wrong.

  • Jeff Berlin's happiness at 1:30

  • They play "Invitation" Jeff is killing !!

  • That one descending bass phrase from Jaco at the end, outclassed the whole of Jeff Berlin's notefest of a solo. just blew Jeff to smithereens, man!

  • The Bosses of Bass! They shall rule the realms of chops and beyond...

  • Isn't that the Framus that he borrowed that time?

  • i just craped my pants

  • wow................

  • I didn't know there was stage big enough to hold these two.

  • the two best ever...

thank God we still have one of them...

I didn't know Jeff played fretted!!! Everything I've heard sounds like fretless!!!

  • Jeff hates fretless basses. and five strings and 6 strings

  • jaco>jeff

  • Um, like, WOW! Can we just get some bass? Tickle me on the freaking floor while I shamelssly giggle!

  • First off I accept and love both Pastorius and Berlin. We need both of them. Jaco's j-bass' signal sounds a lot less _____ than Jeff's but it also could be due to some other factor(s). Jaco's body language suggests to me that he knows that Jeff is Jeff and Jeff's playing hints to the fact that he knows that Jaco is right next to him. Two titans here, no doubts about that. Thanks for the post!

  • jaco's pretty much playing rhythm through out this whole thing

  • @1234whatever rather hear 1 of them at a time...its like a jerking off competition up there.

  • @joelliotjake1 does that really bother you more than the PSSSHSHHT PSSSHHHHT ever two seconds?

  • @musicman9897 ..now that you mentioned it...yea..just a bit. Thought someone was beat boxing to this...haahaa!

  • Thats true!

  • hahahaha. jeff berlin.

  • Nearly every great musician has been an arrogant prick or had some social disorders. Look at Beethoven.

  • First off, Jaco hands down. I met Jeff at GIT and he was a pure asshole. Saw Jaco play in New Orleans and he was in a very bad mood. He kept getting pissed at the band and he would just stop playing. Yelling at the trumpet player to finish soloing, etc. But Jaco wrote the book.He IS the man.

  • man, jaco looked so old in his later years!

  • I am proud to say that i was part of the audience that day, since i was a student in MI. I have read a lot of the comments here, and in deed both guys were Gurus of their instrument, both were arrogant but not both were at their pick at the moment when this was recorded. Jeff have always had this thing with Jaco; I guess that Jaco had more fans that he did. He was proving himself that day.A couple of weeks later, John Patitucci gave a clinic at MI and Mr. Berlin vanished! I wonder why?

  • been watching vids of jeff and he's awesome but when watching this i cant help feel that he's trying to prove to jaco that he can do everything jaco can. thats how it seems but it could just be me!

  • for the moron below FU - Jaco was a severe manic depressive in a time when there wasn't medication for that shit. Joe Zawinul said that he never forgives the fact that he gave Jaco his first drink - his chemistry was already messed up and booze made it worse.

Second - this is some of Jaco's worst playing EVER and STILL he is way more musical then Berlin on a crap bass - that coming from a big Jeff Berlin fan.

  • Pretty cool how jeff posts on the TalkBass forums sometimes. I wonder if Jaco would too...

  • Jaco + Jeff, an amazing combination of 2 GREAT talents!

  • Cooool!

    Very nice.

  • If only this had been 10 years earlier, Jaco was in bad shape by the mid 80s =(

  • wow! two of the most conceded pricks on the planet in one vid?

well .... thats what i've heard ...... but amazing players .... they've earned that right to be as conceded as they want.

  • Learn to spell first you prick, then learn both their parts and I'll respect you!

  • well, it doesn't take a genius virtuoso to know that Jaco sure was conceited and arrogant. Why do you think a bouncer beat him to death? he had serious mental and drug problems that made him pretty unbearable to be around.

that said, he's totally my favorite player

  • I thought Jaco would always get drunk and try to fight the biggest guy in the bar? The bouncer happened to be the biggest guy?

  • nah, he was trying to get in a club, the one the guy was working at. he was being a dick and trying to use his fame to get in without reservation/money and the bouncer was just doing his job, even though he did a terrible thing.

  • he was homeless, with pneumonia when the asshole hit him.

  • i know jeff he is not conceded

  • confidence is not conceit

  • You must mean "conceited"

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, I can't believe it my two biggest influences on one set. This would be over most people's heads, in terms of appreciation though. Some serious concentration and probably telepathy involved! Its like having SRV and Gary Moore playing together.

  • more noodle than an Italian restaurant

  • great video thanks

    olaf vargas mexico

  • Thanks for posting this.. Rare.. Great stuff.. Nice to see these MI vids emerging.. :)

  • Jaco's last days, you can hear it n his way of playing...

  • its saddening really

  • Don't get me wrong, I love Jaco. I've read his biography by Bill Milkowski, but Jeff is playing circles around him. He must've had an off night, because his playing is way out of wack compared to Berlins.

  • as i observed in the video i think jaco plays rhythm and jeff plays the lead.. thats why jeff plays 'circles' around him. its a common jam that one should play rhythm and lead..

  • deff have that pick gaurd

  • puta merda esses caras arrebentam

  • Comment removed

  • You don't have to like him, but to suggest that he has no idea what he's doing is just ridiculous.
