@pimp3my7ride It is, it's basically quarter eighth-rest dotted-quarter quarter-rest. Which means that every time around, there are 2.5 beats of static and only 1.5 beats of music. sucks huh

Jeff may be a better improviser but Jaco's solo's were much more interesting, had cooler licks and more soul. Jaco at his prime was also faster than Jeff will ever be.
Jeff Berlin trashes Jaco - WTF! Jaco played with so much heart that Jeff's playing sounds like chicken scratching in comparison... and don't get me wrong, Jeff is an AMAZING bassist!
@prababilacab it's called an appreciation for musicianship, no matter what instrument you play, moron...besides, I doubt you could play this on guitar anyway, so stfu...
@prababilacab you can't be serious, I'd love to see you even try to play this on guitar - oh wait, first off, you can't. secondly, you can't come close to achieving these kind of tones, not with a guitar and certainly not using a pick.
Wow, that's amazing! Not the playing, though it was very good. But just seeing Jeff and Jaco on the same stage is amazing, especially when Jeff always seems to have time to trash Jaco nowadays. Ever read Jeff's comments in Bass Player mag when they did a big article on Jaco's song "Havona," and Jeff just had to write them a letter informing them that Jaco wasn't strong at improvising? What a douche. And judging by this video, Jeff's wrong.

patitucci is better not that it really matters . i fucking hate berlin. his playing is so lame and his tone is terrible. jaco was the original but if he just popped up on the scene today some of his tone choices would be up for question.its just that he was a pioneer.
First off I accept and love both Pastorius and Berlin. We need both of them. Jaco's j-bass' signal sounds a lot less _____ than Jeff's but it also could be due to some other factor(s). Jaco's body language suggests to me that he knows that Jeff is Jeff and Jeff's playing hints to the fact that he knows that Jaco is right next to him. Two titans here, no doubts about that. Thanks for the post!
First off, Jaco hands down. I met Jeff at GIT and he was a pure asshole. Saw Jaco play in New Orleans and he was in a very bad mood. He kept getting pissed at the band and he would just stop playing. Yelling at the trumpet player to finish soloing, etc. But Jaco wrote the book.He IS the man.
I am proud to say that i was part of the audience that day, since i was a student in MI. I have read a lot of the comments here, and in deed both guys were Gurus of their instrument, both were arrogant but not both were at their pick at the moment when this was recorded. Wow, I can't believe it my two biggest influences on one set. This would be over most people's heads, in terms of appreciation though. Some serious concentration and probably telepathy involved! Its like having SRV and Gary Moore playing together.
Don't get me wrong, I love Jaco. I've read his biography by Bill Milkowski, but Jeff is playing circles around him. He must've had an off night, because his playing is way out of wack compared to Berlins.
as i observed in the video i think jaco plays rhythm and jeff plays the lead.. thats why jeff plays 'circles' around him. its a common jam that one should play rhythm and lead..

You don't have to like him, but to suggest that he has no idea what he's doing is just ridiculous.
