I worked in a car auction for years and bought and sold a few while I was there. Yes you do get the ocasional lemon that the owner cannot sell privately, but a lot of the cars are old part exchanges taken in by garages and have nothing wrong with them. If you buy at an auction, and you dont know what you are doing, look at what everyone else is doing. There are a lot of experienced traders at car auctions.

Thank you for your input. It's always good to get feedback straight from the 'horse's' mouth as such (no pun intended). If one does a little bit of homework you can definitely get a decent car at the car auctions.

i have baught many cars from auctions and resell and on most i made good money and on some i lost and some just got my money back.its a risk.most auctions here in calif u can turn the cars on but not drive them so i do get good motors because i check them but then sometimes you get some with bad trans and maybe suspencion problems .but i usually work on them myself i dont need a shop,but for some people they dont know crap and lose big time when buying a car at auctions so be carefull

Thank you for your comment. You are quite right, auctions can be a great place to buy a car but if you know nothing about cars it's a good idea to take someone with that can check the car out for you. Perhaps your local mechanic.
