I don't get it?,if this Sony cassette deck was made in 1996? why would Best Buy be selling it in 2003?..I have a Sony TC-WE425 that i bought back in 1998 at Best Buy for $220.00 i believe and it still performs as good as it did 13 years ago...
The thing I like about IPOD's is convenience above all things. You have your entire music collection (40,000 songs in my case) in one little unit and easy to find at your fingertips without having to shuffle through CD's or LP's. But yeah...it would be nice to have a FLAC/WAV Ipod instead. Oh well.
@FuckingStanz Have you tried to hook up an IPOD through high quality component cables to a HI FI Receiver ??....You'd be amazed. The sound quality is just as good as any high quality CD player unit. Tapes wear out fast and sound crappy. It's all digital for me. :)
@FuckingStanz I agree about analog being pure. Warmth , ambience and clear crisp sound you get from mint LP's (played using a superior high grade turntable) are second to none. Now if Apple can come up with FLAC/WAV Ipod's.....now that would be something, especially for audiophiles.
@damron13 Can you not rip CDs to WAV in iTunes and then put them on an ipod anyway? - I know it takes up a hell of a lot of space, but if you've got a 160gb ipod classic that should be enough to hold a substantial music collection. ...just a thought!
It's not the last cassette deck sony ever made. They have a double cassette deck out at the moment. Just go onto their website and look under hifi separates.
Sorry, obviously since i've been on there they have discontinued quite a few separates, i think they are cutting down a bit to make way for more multichannel systems for home cinema.
i dont think that was sonys last one i have a sony cassette deck i forgot the model number but its from 2000 and it has touch buttons and dolby s its only a single but not double but its awsome made in japan and has a ceramic cassette holder and it can record at a pretty loud level with out distorting
I have a Sonly TC-WE475, and the VU meter on it begins at -30dB and ends at +8dB. When I'm recording to a cassette either on a normal or high bias, I try keeping the recording level at +3dB or less; on a metal type IV, I will set the recording level at +8dB. I also record our curch sermons on CDs. I try keeping the CD recording levels at -5dB.
I personaly like this deck better than my previous Kenwood...For the simple fact that this SONY model does'nt have full logic controls..That equates into less problems as the unit ages...I have this exact model and I love it..

Who the heck still uses tape decks anymore ? Its all IPOD for me. Tape decks are soo 20th century.

@damron13 iPod's sound like shit, and typically store crappy music in awful quality to be reproduced through 9 dollar ear buds.
The gear you're looking at is high fidelity. Something modern dorks like you will miss out on.

@hifiMAN1994 I tried that, could'nt do it. Itunes would not allow it.

I'd put the receiver on top of the tape deck so it can breathe a little more. The deck is blocking the air vents.

I see the cassette deck, but I didn't notice anything labeled "hi-fi" on Sony's website.
