  • @crimsonBen yeah i heard it and i was like waaay the absolute beginner from Hamburghs Eimsbush Basement .. so nice to hear that =)

  • At the turn of the mill., I, too, was one of the many that felt simultaneously expert and humbled regarding this perpetually fresh '70s gem. Shuggie's talent is seriously sweeter than most! In this minor way (at the very least), he is reaping the positive recognition he has sown for some time now. P(e)ace, t*

  • denyo 77

  • Amazing song, truly love it!

  • From "Inspiration Information", one of the greatest albums of all time.

  • Shuggie's #1

  • Check out his albums on Itunes! What year did this tune come out though?

  • This is one of my favorite songs..

  • the original strawberry letter..........

  • awsome

  • I remember seeing him on the Today Show around 68/69...then nothing till the Strawberry Letter cover by the Bros Johnson.

It's great to see him getting some recognition.

  • search " tiro de gracia - sueños " :)

  • Shuggie is the TRUTH believe it people!

  • Shuggie was waaaaaay ahead of his time...............

  • I know, right? The "time traveling" brother arrived too early to be greatly appreciated then :(

  • @Nightsurf59 Yeah. I grew up in the 70s how did I miss this guy? Sounds like Prince . Or I should I say Prince sounds like him. This song could chart today! Damn.

  • @romienomie i dont think it could chart today. But its ok

  • @TheBeachOfficial Yeah it couldn't chart today..but keep in mind the songs that chart today are required to suck and Shuggie is farrrr from sucking

  • @jft205 the songs that chart today dont suck. They are just different from old songs. You cant say somethings sucks because its just different.

  • @TheBeachOfficial I just looked up the songs that cart today..

    1. Born This Way - Lady Gaga

    2. Firework - Katy Perry

    3. Grenade - Bruno Mars

    4. Black and Yellow - Wiz Khalifa

    5. F**kin' Perfect - P!nk

    6. Tonight - Enrique Iglesias Ft Ludachris

i dont even want to continue..but i rest my case

  • @jft205 Born this way sucks

Fireworks good but ive heard it too much

    grenades really good

    black and yellow is ok

    fucking perfects really good

    Tonight is ammazing.

But i do like other music. Eg, Cat Power - fool

  • @TheBeachOfficial I just looked up all those songs and can say I honestly thought ever single one sucks...Shuggie Otis is about 5 times better than all of those artists put together

  • @Nightsurf59 Yeah. I grew up in the 70s how did I miss this guy? Sounds like Prince . Or I should I say Prince sounds like him. This song could chart today! Damn. I used to think Hendrix invented modern music until I heard this guy .Once again I say damn!!

  • @romienomie um ehem , hendrix accomplished what he did before he died in 1970, shuggie came out with this album shortly after. shuggie otis is awesome but lets not get jimi involved, :)

  • wow Shuggie Otis

  • lookin' for signifyn' monkey!!

    and high healed sneekers..

  • well then otis took h.g. wells time machine and stole the beat.

its quite obvious now, isn't it ?

  • shuggie is the best! beginners just stole the beat and sampled the song! thats the way it is!!

  • @NOOORGE

sampling is an artform..recycling. But covering a whole song is just gay..but on the other hand if its done right, it can be a dope thing though. In a respectable way.

  • @charlyblues Respect is the key word here I think, if they are paying tribute to the original song, or using it to create something new, that's great - but if they are trying to ride the original songs wave and passing it off as their own creation, just to make money, that's just low

  • @addison1977

Yeah but you should know what a cover is. If you do.. well, you just stated the same as what I said.

  • This song use to get plenty of play on our turntable. It brings back some good memories of easy days and good times.

  • absolute beginner - liebeslied

look it up on youtube, its where he got the beat from

  • Otis recorded this song in 1974. When was liebeslied recorded?

  • 1998

  • Well.., kinda idiotic to even suggest this thought...

Otis composed this song way before the Beginners even started to make music... moron :O

Nonetheless it shows that the Beginners got some sort of good taste though, I guess ^^

(I like them alot too ;)

  • i was joking.

obvious troll is not obvious it seems.

  • whats shuggie doin now? Is he still alive?hes like one of those really smart geniuses with a song...so much respect

  • He's still alive.

  • Ahead of this time. Mr Otis BLESS

  • ahead of his time

  • @chicagoam1 ahead of most of people of This time too!

  • wow

  • B-eautiful!

  • god i love this song! please let me know if you could send it to me!!! thanks!!!

  • send me a private message with your e-mail adress and i`ll send it to you..

  • If you can find it on Amazon, you should really download it from there with a fee to at least give ONE credit/ONE dollar to the artist in order to support their efforts.

  • took the word right outta my mouth brains!

  • anybody know what ever happened to this guy?

  • apparently when they re-released this album back in 2000? 2001? the powers that be tried to get him to do some shows. I heard that he was so painfully awkward and uncomfortable at the Filmore show in San Francisco that they knew right then and there that he wasn't really meant to be onstage. Brilliant artist it's too bad.

  • too bad someone cant get a hold of him now,and back him up in his native element:the studio.he doest need to do it live, use video.let this medium be his vehicle

  • check out wike, He lives in California.

  • Comment removed

  • ....upload more Shuggie if you can.

  • i heard this on skins, i really like it ^_^

  • Some people on a Beyonce Blog just hipped me to Shuggie. I don't know how I missed him in my youth. I think he might of been about 3 or so years before I was old enough to get it. But I get it now. I love this - gotta find these CDs.

  • hey...did you rip this track from vinyl? it sounds like a different mix then the cd

  • this was sampled for "liebeslied" by absolute beginner- a german rapcrew from hamburg city!

  • I'm thinking Phil Collins probably listened to this when he did "In the Air Tonight."

  • Wow, what year was this in man, this some deep music

  • 1974 -- I agree with you! Peace.

  • '74? Shuggie was way ahead of time with this one!!

  • Ma chi cazzo è questo genio? Perchè nessuno lo conosce? Quanta altra musica fantastica mi sono perso?
