Well,my dad has a 1996 Xantia, which the dealer who serviced it said that my dad's Xantia and only an other one,are the most clean cars underneeth.BEAT THAT WITH ANY XM,BX,DS,CX,SM,2CV.
@MrDionisis7 I think I can, my 1989 XM (the one in the video) has had numerous mechanics comment on how clean and utterly rust free it is underneath, how fantastic the bodywork is for the age (though admittedly it needs a good wash and polish in the video lol), and has been in classic car shows etc :)
As a general thing though, these older generation Citroens will last for a long time if you look after them, and hard work and big miles isn't a problem to them if properly maintained :)
I have to ask.. What's for the center sphere in the back of the car... My dad has never changed that sphere since he got that car.. Actually it's a Xantia but I suppose it's exactly the same as the XM... Ohh my dad has that car since 1999!!! What will change in the behaviour of the car if he replace that sphere?
@AlexF931 Hi, the rear middle sphere varies depending on year / model, but its likely the rear hydractive sphere, which is responsible for providing all of the super soft ride when the cars in soft mode. The centre spheres are often neglected due to awkward location, but its very important they're regassed / replaced, as with all the spheres. With poor / flat centre spheres the ride will deteoriate to BMW / V.A.G levels, and who wants that from a Citroen. Give that thing a re-gas :-)
@AlexF931 BTW much more info on XMs, Xantias and hydraulic Citroens in general on our forum: ww.wclub-xm.co.uk , loads of very knowledgable people there, and the spheres subject comes up very regularly :)
I have exactly the same problem, how did you fix it?
I went to the original service because of maintenance 2 months ago and they changed the colector, the hidroactive oil, and the central ball, after that is was quite "jumpy" and they said I need to change also the 4 balls left, but I didn't
Now is just going up from the back part... and a friend told me that this models need to be changed the "regulator" located below the car in the center of the car.
@kastanedowski Hi, the problem moreless went away by itself, I believe it was caused by a sticky height corrector. I was thinking of dismantling and cleaning it, but I had just put the Hydrarincage flushing fluid into it, and the problem soon went away after a few miles. I would say the fluid cleaned any crap out of the height corrector. As for the 'regulator' your friend mentions, I suspect this is one of the centre spheres. These provide the soft ride when the suspension is in Automatic (soft)
