Consider that around this time PCs did not even come with sound cards by default and that a 256-color VGA card (and a capable monitor) were still considered luxury items. It would take at least $500-1000 extra to get a vanilla DOS machine up to par with a low end Mac. I owned PCs at the time and I made fun of Mac users for being 'newbs' too, but I refuse to reminiscence about that era through rose tinted glasses.

If you're talking about Imacs vs standard interchangable PCs yes, but Apple sadly does not have an affordable upgradable system. The only computers they sell that don't have everything integrated are workstations that cost roughly double of what the PC version could have. Though I do have to admit, Apple keeping its imacs as variations of the same basic hardware does help them reduce costs due to higher production of identical parts.

I buy Macs for the operating system, I think it is much more capable of handling media, I think it is much more stable, and also, there is no registry. I've never had security issues, which is very nice. I'm not going to get up here and curse out anyone who takes sides. I love Windows 7, it works very well, but for me, OSX for fills my needs better. It's just preference, and at this point, its not a big deal.

They used to upgrade the notebook but maintain the price, they broke their own rule this year. £2000 could get a really good pc, lets just say for my next computer it will be tempting to make my own custom pc and install leopard on it.

That machine was made in the late 80's to early 90's. For the era, they were much more capable than similar Windows based configurations, and at a lower price point. Apple is recapturing the market with a similar strategy today.
